Enough people seemed enthusiastic about the idea I (@frightfullytreeish) suggested on this post that I thought why not make it a reality.
The goal of this fic fest is to explore Buck's seriously underutilised jeep life backstory and all the skills he must have picked up (or, to be fair, discovered he was awful at) along the way. Tim Minear might have forgotten that Buck wore a cowboy hat prior to Nashville, but WE WILL NOT FORGET. In the postcards to Maddie in Buck Begins, we learn he did construction, mixology, dude-ranching, and picked up odd jobs, but those are just a few from a whole stack of postcards! What was his oddest job? Can he sex chicks by hand? Does he make a mean balloon animal? Let the spinning wheel decide.

Between now and the 17th August, send me suggestions for jobs you think Buck might have/should have tried his hand at before he found his way to firefighting.
On the 17th August, I will post a link to a spinning wheel with all the suggestions (consolidating repeat/overlapping suggestions into one as necessary). Spin the wheel, receive a nugget of inspiration from Buck's employment history, and write a fic or create some fanart inspired by it! Contributions can be gen or shippy, pre-canon exploring Buck's time as e.g. a balloon animal artist or present day casually mentioning his balloon animal skills during an emergency, or some combination of the two.

I really do find it funny that the show/people think of Hen as this wise, insightful person who will give everyone at the 118 advice on how to communicate with their romantic interests/partners and it usually just boils down to “have the hard conversation”. Because like every season her storyline involves her lying or hiding something from her wife. Hen says “do as I say, not as I do” and I love her.
I do think that Buck, on some level, saw that Tony was courting Eddie. That's probably part of why he got jealous of their friendship, even if he doesn't really know that that's what was happening

Imagine Eddie finally realizing he's in love with Buck and keeps trying to ask Buck out, but he's too nervous to fully say "hey, you wanna go on a date?" And he keeps fumbling over his words so he and Buck keep going on really nice dinner dates. Buck keeps trying to convince himself that this is not a date each time, even though it really feels like one & Eddie is wearing is date cologne, (but Eddie never mentioned the word date, only dinner, and besides, he's straight) and at the end of each night, there's a bit of tension that's palpable in the air. Buck breaks it by saying "night, bro" emphasizing the last word, and tries to ignore the way Eddie cringes each time. The cycle continues for idk, maybe 3 or 4 weeks before Eddie finally breaks at the way he constantly says bro each time they're about to kiss at Buck's doorstep, and finally admits that he's in love with Buck and kisses him, because Eddie knows Buck has been flicking between his lips and eyes at each "bro" said. It takes a minute for Buck to get the memo, but when he does, everything about the kiss feels right. It's another few minutes before they break apart. And then when they break apart, Buck looks so in aw that Eddie has no choice other than to laugh & smile before asking him out on a proper date, and Buck stumbles his response but eventually says yes with enthusiasm, and that's how we get buddie canon. Yay.
