The fact that this website is perpetually searching for a queer demographic that they can oppress and say is actually privileged. Trans without dysphoria, aro, polyam, bi, pan, xenogenders, mogai, enben, intersex, afab transfems, etc. I think right now the main target is trans men and transmascs more generally, but it’s the same old cycle and often the same exact people.

The fact that so many of the aphobes’ “arguments” were literally recycled homophobia: “You’re too young to know.” “Asexuality is nsfw.” “Asexuality is just a phase.” “You just say you’re ace because you think it’s quirky.”

The fact that even after the “discourse” stopped, the perpetrators looked back at it as “that cringy phase I had as a teenager” rather than “that time I bullied hundreds of random queer people for their identities and forced them back into the closet.” There were no apologies.

That literally no aspec person who has been on the Internet since before that time was left untouched, and that the entirety of online aspec culture has been forever altered from this hate wave.

That it was a gateway into radfem circles.

It's for both solidarity with your fellow queers AND to protect yourself, because once a person is convinced to hate one group for their immutable traits they can be convinced fairly easily to hate another too, and thus I do not trust them.

One of the only asexual activists is Yasmin Benoit, a Black woman. She has raised so much awareness for the community. She was the first asexual person to lead Pride in London, she started the #thisiswhatasexuallookslike movement and is THE leading voice for the community.

And you all will celebrate international asexuality day on April 6th but we wouldn't even have that if she hadn't cofounded it.

You are valid even when you're questioning and second-guessing your identity and label.

Changing is okay. Things being a phase is okay. Things staying the same is okay. Impermanent does not mean unimportant.

Let people have labels that they choose to even if you disagree on the definition of the label or its validity, if we start policing identities we fracture the community and hurt our own.

Don't force people to adopt labels if they don't want them. Don't let people force you to adopt labels that you don't feel comfortable with.

Get weirder it's okay to not fit into stereotypes.

It's also okay to be 'mainstream' and 'fit' into stereotypes. You're not obliged to be the sole representation of your community. You're you.

It's okay to be scared and angry. It's okay to be happy.

It's okay to be confused.
