Know no shame

You ever get one of the few things your parents left to you, that thing being your mother's jade ring, and then immediately give it to the man you're soulbonded with, who gave you his grandfather's jade necklace (marriage tradition in some cultures), and the first finger he even tries to fit it on is his left ring finger (you know, the marriage one in some cultures) and it fits perfectly, and—

So many little ways that hatred of some underclass — immigrants, the homeless, the young — requires making things worse for everyone so those in the under class don't get anything nice either. Whole smorgasbord of shooting yourself in the foot out of spite

have to keep ourselves poorer just to keep brown people out. can't have public bathrooms because the homeless might use them. have to play high-pitched noise to keep teens away. we are letting the cruelest people among us make our lives worse so they can be hateful

I don't see enough people mourning over the slow death of physical media. And I don't just mean TV shows, video games, or movies--which don't even get me started about how we don't really 'own' anything anymore. It includes notes, journals, and letters to one another...so much of our history is lost when we lose a password, a website goes down, a file/hardware is corrupted, or a platform disappears. History that doesn't seem important until you no longer have access to it. Physical media does a lot for memory recall. How many memories will we lose because we don't have something tangible to tie it back to? Something to hold in our hands and stir up those memories we thought were once lost? Sometimes I wonder what the difference between burning a book and losing access to physical media is when someone can pull the plug and remove your access so easily.
