Siegfried is the particular brand of exasperating where he's genuinely good at what he does, has insights and figures things out that others fail to realize, and his reckless schemes usually end up actually working in the end so he always can look at Audrey like "okay but it worked, didn't it?"

But at the same time it drives Audrey absolutely crazy because he never does things in a safe or reasonable way like she would, and he throws his coat on the ground of their agency office instead of hanging it up on the hook where it lives.

Most of the time, Audrey is the reasonable one, but Siegfried has been lucky enough to witness her act as their getaway driver and lose someone who's tailing them, and she treats the rules of the road as loose suggestions.

Part 1

Siegfried went on with his little plan, not entirely sure about how she would take it, but trusting his instincts. He started by browsing his record collection, selecting his favourites and listening carefully, taking notes on what would be the most suitable choice. Maybe Eddy Duchin? And his Central Park Casino Orchestra? An old favourite, even though they were American. He was so engrossed in his task that he lost track of time and was interrupted by Helen, storming into the sitting room, dressed in her robe, looking quite angry.

”Siegfried, have you any idea what time it is? The rest of the house is trying to sleep, but it’s impossible in this noise!”

This is such a clear example of Aristophanes’s theory of soulmates: Audrey is the practical side that Siegfried is missing since he lost Evelyn and Siegfried is the unpractical side that makes life more exciting (if not sometimes more complicated 😅) for Audrey. They both make life better for the other and feel more complete together.
