Story Summary: A snowstorm leaves Siegfried and Audrey alone at Skeldale--Tristan is with Charlotte planning their wedding; James is with Helen and the children at Heston--and, with his health compromised, Siegfried must decide whether to accept the love Audrey could offer or return to a solitary life.
Chapter Summary: A so-called emergency greets Siegfried and Audrey when they arrive home from the hospital.
Siegfried kissed Audrey as soon as she stepped out of the Rover. Clouds hovered overhead but, in almost every way, his world seemed sunny. And full. And right. His rib? Healed. His affections? Received and returned. His practice? Stable and profitable. The winter? Waning. His family? The rest of those he loved? Happy, betrothed, and never far away. His cup, such as it was, runneth over with joy, and he let all of it flow into his kiss.
When her lips buzzed with a low hum, plans took shape in his mind. Take her hand. Lead her to the door. Through the house. Up the stairs, and into his bedroom. Then, kiss her. Taste her. Please her. Until that hum turned to incoherent, breathless, uncontrollable sounds.
