I feel like this blog is so contradictory
yes
New updates in the korra fandom: allowing a mistake in an argument to be misunderstood to the point where people tell the OP to go die, because that’s always the greatest way of approaching someone whose made an honest mistake, right? Discussing out the issue, what's that?
Bryan can draw whatever the fuck he wants. It’s his show, he and the others wrote it, and last time I checked he can draw whatever the fuck he wants. If you're so full of wank about it why don’t you go develop skill to go draw your shitty heteronormative fanart to ease your wank. Just because you’re invested in a show doesn’t mean the creator has to cater to you over anyone else. Heaven forbid the co-creator of a show draws whatever the fuck he wants to draw.
Dear Bryan:
Could you please talk about/draw literally anything else? I’m really getting sick of being treated like my investment in your show doesn’t matter. >_<
Aword about this (and, without being too specific, the responses to it).
Thisis more complicated than “it’s his show/art, he can draw whatever he wants.” That would be easy to say if Konietzko were a regular fanartist whose picture would garner a few thousand notes and then sink into the Tumblr slough and be forgotten. When a show’s creator makes a “fanart,” especially one meant to hang on the wall of a prestigious art show, it stands as a statement of what they believe the show (in this case, the entire franchise) is about. And apparently Konietzko sees The Legend of Korra as being all about a half-baked romance between two characters who literally hadn’t had a one-on-one conversation for five episodes prior to their overhyped final scene.
Konietzko isn’t just another fanartist; he is, in SJ parlance, extremely privileged. For instance, I would bet good money that he’s already reserved a spot for this particular piece in the “ancillary” section of the Book 4 art book, which means those of us who are determined to get our hands on model sheets for Kuvira and key animation from “Beyond the Wilds” are going to be shelling out cash for this picture, whether we want to or not.
Those of us who were dissatisfied with the ending are still Korra fans, and this guy’s words and pictures can shake the earth under our feet. If he can’t or won’t validate our interpretation of the show’s ending, he might at least stop causing a new earthquake every time he opens his mouth and let us work on shoring up our crumbling esteem for him and his franchise in peace.Â
To put this in further perspective, Bryan has not talked about anything not related to Korrasami (and by extension, Mako’s love life) in over three months. He has not really mentioned Korra’s recovery arc, he has not discussed Kuvira, the Beifongs, the plot, or literally anything other than Korrasami in any kind of depth. This man is one of the co-creators of a show that is progressive in so many ways, and yet all he talks about and appears to care about is a romance that happened in the last two minutes of the show that was not given adequate buildup or narrative attention. He has talked more about ATLA recently than he has Korra as a show.Â
Bryan knows the state of the fandom over the past three months. He knows how divided we are and the drama and hate that has plagued the fandom since the finale. And yet, when he, the co-creator of the show, gets to do an art show, what does he do? Instead of drawing a Krew piece, a Korra piece, or a ship that everyone can agree on (like Kainora), he drew a Korrasami piece and basically deliberately added fuel to the fire.
The art piece, while cute, was just the latest in a long line of events and things he’s said over the past three months that attempts to invalidate people who were unsatisfied with the ending (for various reasons) and with Book 4 as a whole. It’s not the art, it’s what it represents: a man who is a co-creator of a show and yet only appears to care about two characters in a romantic relationship with each other and not the show as a whole (and by extension, all of the characters in it).
oh my god y’all are such absolute pieces of shit do you not know how awful you’re being
"I’m really getting sick of being treated like my investment in your show doesn’t matter."
yeah now you fucking know how queer people feel with 90 PERCENT OF ALL THE OTHER POPULAR MEDIA OUT THERE???? We get SHIT and half the time something happens, it’s either a joke or it’s pushed to the side or just queerbaiting in disguise.
this, as so many people have been saying for MONTHS now, that is just not getting through your thick fucking head, is not pandering to shippers. This is Bryan giving queer fans something they rarely get in popular shows in general, but more importantly, it’s something we never get in a CHILDREN’S SHOW. He knows that people are flocking to this show for absolutely fantastic bisexual representation, and he’s doing his best to show that making this ship canon isn’t just some grab at ratings. He wanted this to happen, and he’s going to make sure the fans know that he’s with them on this. He’s making fans who rarely get to see themselves in media happy, and you have the gall to act all high and mighty by saying HE SHOULDN’T HAVE DONE THIS HE CAN’T PANDER TO CERTAIN FANS? How dare you.
I would bet good money that y’all would be dead fucking silent if this was Mako and Korra in the boat. So seriously, just. Shut up and let the queer fans have THIS ONE THING.
Also: Bryan’s donating 100 percent of the proceeds he makes from the auctions of the prints of that art piece to LGBTQ suicide prevention hotlines. And you’re COMPLAINING about it. Hope that makes you feel like a bad person. :)
flawless victory
I struck through the garbage parts of this post. If you want to see a good example of privileged entitled whining, take a read through it.
I think the good reply after them hit everything on the head that needed to be said in response. Seriously, this isn’t about the ship, it’s about the fact it’s a QUEER ship that riles them up so much.
This week on the fandumb: more upset wank for a heterosexual pairing not being endgame and op getting upset people didn't agree with them. Also see, op on their blog claiming that Bryan could draw any other ship for an lgbtq charity, because it makes complete perfect sense to raise money using a heterosexual pairing.
Look forward to exciting events next week as the fandumb finds yet another reason to hate on queer endgame

had about enough of you, nick
not even the fans are dumb anymore, the the network that hosts the show is fucking dumb
way to objectify one of your only strong female character leads nick
What is this exactly?
This is a thumbnail for a digital short advertisement where nick puts their other leads (who are male) up as "potential lovers" to make Korra some sort of prize
not to mention they call her "future avatar," and say shit like "besides she can do better - like mako"

oh god why is this getting notes again
The end of an Era.Â
I can’t believe they did this. This wasn’t necessary for Korra to forge her own path in the new world. Just because these past lives hasn’t lived in modern time doesn’t mean that they are useless or can’t give timeless advice to Korra. Not to mention learn from their mistakes.Â
At first watch I didn’t realize the significant of this but now watching this scene, it made me cry. Is not just nostalgia. This was the draw for the Avatar and what that means to this franchise. We just learned about the first Avatar which added to the richness of The Avatar but all that seems wasted and undermined with this action just so Korra can have character growth she could easily have had without going down this route.Â
I guess its kind of appropriate and timely since I ended ties to the LOK series. I’m only going to take Tarrlok, Amon and the Legend of Wan from this series and forget about everything else.Â
what bothers me is that eventually all of those past lives will be forgotten entirely and their significance to the world they were born to is just gone
Exactly. Would anyone have learned the truth about Wan if there hadn’t been an avatar connection? No, it would’ve been lost and with that, you lose every avatars story in between. It’s just sad the writers felt like they had to erase all these fantastic myths that made Avatar such a beloved series just to make their current protagonist less flat as a character. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
Maybe they’ll realize what they’ve done and somehow make it all come baack. Raava is the Avatar spirit and as ling she is present it makes sense for her ro remember all of Wan’s past lives and therefore Korra would remember them, too.
It would be a total chlishee and completely unrealistic but I could luve with that if it brought Aang back :)
I think we’re looking at this all wrong. I don’t think removing the memories of past avatars constitutes making Korra an individual. She still values the past avatars. In fact, it was her memories and the things she learned from Wan that helped her realize what kind of person she was. Having them wouldn’t take away from her individuality, and losing them won’t add to it either.
The choice to let Korra lose her connection to her past lives is NOT a statement about her individuality. It’s a mature writing choice. This happened because the spirit of light and balance - the avatar spirit itself - got pulled out of Korra. We’re talking about a ten-thousand-year connection being completely severed. And on top of that, she was attacked and destroyed. The spirit of light and peace was destroyed by the spirit of darkness. So there have to be major consequences to that. Irreversible consequences. Anything less is an insult to the emotional investment we’ve already put into this plotline. If Korra hadn’t lost her connection to her past lives, the fact that she and Raava were separated and defeated would not have meant as much. Watching the past avatars’ memories be destroyed helps us to feel the pain of that separation and the devastation of that destruction. Every time Korra is lost and alone and could really use another voice of counsel, she’s going to feel that loss. She’s going to remember how awful it felt to watch the spirit of darkness take over. She’s going to remember what she’s lost and why that battle was fought. She’s seen that keeping man and spirits separate did not improve the relationship they had together and how the resentment spirits have for man nearly led to the destruction of everything. So she has that much more motivation to make and keep the peace between them and be the avatar she was meant to be.
And besides, weren’t we complaining at the end of last season that having her powers given back to her was too easy of an ending? That we wanted to see her deal with the emotional loss? So now they’ve taken our advice and are making her deal with the loss of something major, and you’re complaining about that? Is there any way to make this fandom happy?

laughs because of people who expect every single lok character to be perfect and completely develop in a matter of episodes and get mad when they’re not (or are no longer) perfect despite the fact that we still have 2 books worth of development to go and having BOOM IMMEDIATE development/personality 180 would be completely boring for the rest of the show
Can I just say that the dumb argument that the lore of the avatar world is dead sounds just as stupid to me as the pacific rim comparison? Is that wrong
No my friend you are entitled to your opinion and anyone who tells you otherwise is an asshat
