Favourite Colour (2020)
I meant to put this on my last reblog of it but I forgot… Anyway, this has such a Calvin and Hobbes feel to it and it warms my heart because of that association.
Yes biscuits with local storage
How several former vegans and vegetarians across the country came to see meat as their calling.
highlight quotes;
“… she returned to eating meat after learning that the soybean and corn monocultures that accounted for much of her vegan diet were wreaking havoc on the environment.“
“When we first opened, people were surprised at the prices,” he said. “But our costs are much higher than what a giant company pays. We are paying to have control over the quality of our animals, what they are being fed, how they are being treated, transported, slaughtered and cut up. Once people understood that, the business took off.”
“As soon as I started eating meat, my health improved,” she said. “My mental acuity stepped up, I lost weight, my acne cleared up, my hair got better. I felt like a fog lifted.”
“You can’t be healthy unless the animals you eat are healthy,”
“Rather than being passive and just not supporting an industry I don’t like, I’m taking an active approach by taking thousands of dollars out of it, “ he said. “When people come to me, they aren’t going to Costco for meat.”
“Referring to themselves as ethical butchers, they have opened shops that offer meat from animals bred on grassland and pasture, with animal well-being, environmental conservation and less wasteful whole-animal butchery as their primary goals.”
Instead of trying to poise this as “haha vegans look even y’all can’t do it” express it for what it truly is.
“It’s a sharp contrast to the industrial-scale factory farming that produces most of the nation’s meat, and that has come under investigation and criticism for its waste, overuse of antibiotics, and inhumane, hazardous conditions for the animals. The outcry has been so strong that some meat producers say they are changing their practices. But these newer butchers contend that the industry is proceeding too slowly, with a lack of transparency that doesn’t inspire trust.”
I think it’s also worth noting that this highlights the way that it’s not meat-eaters or vegans that are a problem. It’s the way that our food supply has been shaped by the forces of business.
Fixing it means not fighting about who’s identity is better, but fighting against the business practices that allow companies to torture animals and produce unethically grown and unsustainably harvested foods.
And as a reminder of the past, the US meat packing industry and food production industry have often tried to cut corners and serve filth in order to make a profit. That changed after the release of Upton Sinclair’s 1906 novel The Jungle, which portrayed the conditions in the Chicago meat packing industry in such stark relief that it lead directly to the creation of the FDA and the wide scale adoption of food safety regulations.
He told the US that we might be getting the occasional human finger in our ground beef and it worked. We listened and forced the system to change. I think it’s time for another dose of that same medicine.
it’s not meat-eaters or vegans that are a problem. It’s the way that our food supply has been shaped by the forces of business.
So much this. This is why I post so much about food. We’re so dependent on a massively destructive and wasteful food production system, no matter our dietary choices or needs. Our very lives are tangled up with food miles, monoculture, deforestation, food waste, pesticides, exploitation, slavery, and the reality is not everyone has a choice of what to eat or where to shop, and frankly most people don’t have the option not to participate. Any amount of food that you can produce for yourself is a piece of your own liberation.
Any amount.
Even if all you can do is grow a chayote or sweet potato vine in your kitchen for greens, or a few windowsill herbs, or a box of mushrooms under the sink, or a tank of algae, do it. Just because you can’t grow ALL your own food doesn’t mean you shouldn’t bother at all. You will save money, you will reduce your carbon footprint, you will be that much more independent.
Is it there a listing of these places for the state of Texas?

i’ve been crying laughing over this for the past 5 minutes
This honestly reminds me of a show on the history channel where they spent like 25 minutes wondering how the sides of all the pyramids seemed to be perfectly divisible by pi or something, and people where theorizing about aliens and some lost form of mathematics, but then at the end they interviewed a tiered looking paleontologist and he was just like “maybe they just used a wheel to do all their measurements.” and the whole show just immediately collapsed.
can you imagine being so far up your own ass with conspiracy theories that you forget about circles
I love this song
South Korean beauty standards take shit to the next. Fucking. Level. Women are evaluated in totality based on every minor physical detail and whether it matches the ideal to the point where their decision to go under the knife for procedures the likes of blepharoplasty (surgery on their eyelids) is a main determinant of whether they get a job. For them, shit like this is an expectation. Fuck that garbage, burn it up ladies.
In Korea you are literally REQUIRED to have a headshot with your application. Your physical appearance is a major vetting point in the interview. Applicants have literally been told to bleach their skin for jobs. Seoul is the plastic surgery capital of the world.
This is HUGE for them. Support them. Even if you love makeup, their beauty culture is TOXIC. Support this movement

DO YOU KNOW HOW OFTEN I THINK ABOUT THIS POST??? IM IN LAW SCHOOL THIS POST IS GOING TO RUIN MY LIFE
Bro you’re in law school your life is already ruined
I started this blog when I first entered law school, hoping to hop on the ✨studyblr✨ aesthetics bandwagon only to realise that I simply didn’t have time for all that in between all my mental breakdowns.
Long story short, I never thought I’d make it but I finished law school and I’m in the process of completing my pupillage.

i know it's actually just another word for property damage but the fact that "criminal mischief" is a crime that exists and that you can be charged for is so funny to me as a concept. jailed for having a laugh.

Keep your eyes open. This fight isn't over. We will get real peace.
idk who needs to hear this but when your english teacher asks you to explain why an author chose to use a specific metaphor or literary device, it’s not because you won’t be able to function in real-world society without the essential knowledge of gatsby’s green light or whatever, it’s because that process develops your abilities to parse a text for meaning and fill in gaps in information by yourself, and if you’re wondering what happens when you DON’T develop an adult level of reading comprehension, look no further than the dizzying array of examples right here on tumblr dot com
this post went from 600 to 2400 notes in the time it took me to write 3 emails. i’m already terrified for what’s going to happen in there
k but also, as an addendum, the reason we study literary analysis is because everything an author writes has meaning, whether it was intentional or not, and their biases and agendas are often reflected in their choice of language and literary devices and so forth! and that ties directly into being able to identify, for example, the racist and antisemitic dogwhistles often employed by the right wing, or the subconscious word choices that can unintentionally illustrate someone’s bias or blind spot. LANGUAGE HAS WEIGHT AND MEANING! the way we communicate is a reflection of our inner selves, and that’s true regardless of whether it’s a short story or a novel or a blog post or a tweet. instead of taking a piece of writing at face value and stopping there, assuming that there is no deeper meaning or thought behind the words on the page, ask yourself these two questions instead:
1. what is the author trying to say? 2. what does the author maybe not realize they’re saying?
because the most interesting reading of any piece of literature, imho, usually occupies the space in between those questions.

Y'ALL THERE'S GOOD NEWS FOR ONCE I'M CRYING. HAPPY PRIDE
The rulings came in three cases involving two gay men and a transgender woman from Georgia, New York and Michigan.
THIS IS WHY FEDERAL COURTS ARE SO IMPORTANT AND YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS IN NOVEMBER
You aren't just voting for a President for four years, you're voting for who's going to nominate Justices to the Supreme Court and judges to all Federal courts for the next forty or fifty
Victories like this might not happen if Trump replaces RBG with a 40 year old conservative. RBG is 87.
