Lean into the funny idiot archetype so that when you’re unexpectedly hypercompetent at something they give you The Look where you can see them reexamine their entire perception of you in confusion, respect and no small amount of fear, and when you keep playing funny idiot they will be forever wary of you. Let them find out, incidentally, that the jester keeps a knife under his hat, and never figure out how to deal with that because they won’t abandon their boxes.

Shout-out to disabled people who aren’t “inspirational”, who are unemployed or stuck with a job they don’t like, who didn’t do well academically and/or had to drop out of school, who aren’t in a position to live and take care of themselves independently even if they would like to, who don’t “just get on with things without complaining”, whose lives didn’t work out in the way they were hoping for, who haven’t “overcome” their disability in the way that society tells us we’re supposed to. You exist, you’re worthwhile and you matter. 

Doctors get all "Oh, where'd you hear about that? Dr. Google?" then you ask them about something you read in a peer reviewed journal they turn their monitor away from you to use Doctor Google.

We really have lost the plot when it comes to pulp (by which I mean fiction that prioritizes the pleasure and enjoyment of the reader above all else.) It feels like a lot of modern books can't decide whether they are pulp or not, and that really limits them, because they get tangled up in anxiety about the nature of what they're doing and its moral or artistic value. To write great pulp, sublime pulp, you can have no illusions that your goal is pleasure - and we need pulp! It serves an essential social purpose - to give us space to explore our drives and desires that would be dangerous or impossible to live out in reality. It's psychologically essential.

Very good advice

*nods* Facebook had a scam like this too where they'd pretend your account was about to be deactivated because you "weren't using it" so "click the link" and "login" to yada yada. Same school friend who shared that scam to her friends ended up with spam posts on her account not long after.
