motivation to write has been low lately, folks, but at least I managed to squeeze out 400 words from my brain today :)) so, that's a yay
I think there's something that needs to be said about encouraging readers to leave feedback.
For me it's not about "tell me my writing is amazing and stroke my ego"
It's more about "please engage with me so that I can experience your joy secondhand and foster a connection with you"
I understand that not everyone wants this in their reading experience, some people are shy and a million other reasons why maybe someone wouldn't want to engage and that's perfectly fine!
But what I'm trying to steer away from is being a passive content creator with passive consumers. What I want to steer toward is fostering a community that is essential to fandom. I want to see your reactions because it makes me feel like I'm a part of something.
On encouraging reblogs —
I understand that not everyone is comfortable reblogging, especially explicit content. This is ok!
But just consider that the only reason you were able to enjoy a fic or fanart is because someone else shared it, and by not sharing it yourself you are potentially robbing someone else of the opportunity to enjoy it as much as you did.
As OPs our reach only goes so far and this website relies on reblogs in order for anything to truly get seen by a wider audience.
So that's really it! That's why I encourage these two things at the end of every story I post. Not because I'm trying to be demanding and "make people feel bad" if they don't do it.
I know most other social media sites encourage mindless content consumption and that's just the way of the world nowadays, but I am from a time when community was at the heart of fandom and I just don't want to lose that.

i recommend telling yourself “this isn’t an experience i want to keep having” and stop entertaining things that are really detrimental to your health and don’t benefit you in anyway.

the issue with writing for yourself is that you will get sucked into rereading your own fic over and over and pretend it’s “editing,” but really you’re just reading because it’s exactly what you want to read. because you wrote it. for you.

i'm part of a writing community on here and the number of times writers post something along the lines of, 'what things put you off reading a book, because i want to avoid things people don't like' is making me very, very sad. you are never going to get exactly the same answer from multiple people. write what YOU want to write and if you love your book, other people will love it too
This is so important. We were never supposed to know what everyone around us is thinking all the time. Trying to avoid what people don't like is A. impossible because as OP said, that's different for everyone, and B. a futile exercise because it stifles creativity. Write what you want. It will delight some, enrage others. But the point of writing is to inspire feeling and tell a story, is it not? And by that measure, you are a tremendous success for no other reason that that you put words to page.
you just had to be in the tdm fandom from 2016-2018. casting announcements. both tdl and the movie were coming out days apart. the author announced tdm special editions and ran polls so fans could vote for the bonus content for each book. she would do fun q&a on twitter and would literally send arcs of tdl to fans. the actors interacted with the readers on social media. alex would open her tumblr ask box so people could send her tdm-related questions. the tdl special edition with an annotated chapter was in stores. the tumblr tag was so active, with edits and posts constantly rolling in. you just had to be there.

Claire’s baking chronicles feat almost everyone
- claire loves baking, like, loves it. it’s her escape, bad school day? baking. feeling sad? baking. can’t sleep? baking. grace would wake up to use the toilet and see the kitchen lights on and claire will be baking but nobody says anything about it bevause it’s claire and we’d rather have her bake than do drugs
- ruby would bake with claire and they would be in such a trance cuz they fill out eachtoher so perfectly—their baked goods always turn out good.
- also nobody interrupts them when the two of them are baking, liam tried once to taste the batter and got a spatula with the batter thrown at his head. He hasn’t tried since
- one time everyone was at their house and they collectively decided to bake together: ruby, claire, and zu actually knwo what they’re doing, vida’s arguing with chubs that not everything has to be measured out perfectly, priyanka goes with the flow—she hasn’t touched a recipe in her whole life. Roman is the only one who weirdly knows how to bake pretty well and claire actually trusts him to do stuff, liam is trying, cole isn’t. he can’t bake for the life of him and he’s not gonna risk messing stuff up so he’s sitting there giving extra commentary like it’s a football match.
i love claire so much guys and in my head the stewart house is like the spawn point for them like the doors always open and hangouts are always there and like grace and harry would wake up to see 5 more kids in their house and it would just be another Tuesday
