What should I do? Primary vs Secondary (Blogs)
This is a secondary blog. I didn’t know it at the time, but secondary blogs can’t follow anyone, or respond to messages in private, or even like posts.  :/
This is starting to feel really restrictive, as I can’t follow anyone back from here (and I’m not "out" as polyamorous on my primary blog, so I can’t follow/reblog poly blogs from there either), and a few people have sent me messages where I’m not sure if it would be appropriate to reply in public. I can't even like posts to show support for others!  :(
Is there any way to fix this? Or is the only solution starting a new primary blog from scratch, with 0 posts, 0 followers, and 0 reblogs? Heck, I’d pay for the option to convert to a primary blog if it were available (hey Tumblr staff, listen up!)
I really don’t want to lose you guys, or the wonderful comments and messages you’ve sent me, or added in a reblog! Starting over means I lose all that, right? :(
Help?
Polyamory is a term steeped in feminist tradition that focuses on sex-positive attitudes toward love and relationships with more than one partner.
With Illinois poised to become the 15th US state to allow same-sex marriage, I think this is a great idea. In Canada, where same-sex marriage has been legal since 2005, the progress of same-sex rights in the US still seems painfully slow and awkward to me, but I am pleased at the progress.  I also think that it’s definitely time for polyamory to start to be more public  and to follow suit.
I do think one of the biggest hurdles facing the polyamory movement (are we a movement?) is the public’s perceived connection to polygamy, and the main reason that’s a bad thing is because it is indeed “associated with extreme wings of certain religious perspectives and often conjures images of child brides and rampant sexual abuse or inequality” in the public consciousness. That’s what I’ve run into, even coming out about my relationship to my liberal-minded friends.  It’s somewhat that was outside their frame of reference, and so their minds naturally leaped to the closest thing they had heard of: polygamy, and all of the emotional and social baggage that comes with it. They were open-minded enough not to dismiss it outright, but they were definitely concerned about me (“Are you sure you’re okay?" "Are you being coerced into it?" "Is his wife being forced into it?”). They got it, eventually, but that was still the first thought they had.
I am extremely grateful for all of the LGBTQ+ individuals and allies who fought and pushed for their own rights. As a Canadian, I am aware that those rights, even though they came easier here than in other countries such as the USA, were still obtained through an overly long, hard struggle. I am grateful that it allowed social perceptions of love and marriage to start to undergo a shift, which makes me have hope that someday all family styles will have rights and benefit and be seen as legitimate. Since I myself hadn't even known ethical non-monogamy was a thing until it fell into my lap, I think we need to do a lot more to become visible to the general public. I'm not really sure how, though. Â I found it difficult to convince my friends and family, who love and trust me, that I was here of my own free will and that I felt safe and loved and was not being oppressed by my own relationship. Â I certainly don't know how to show society. Thoughts?
Wow! Over 200 people care about what I have to say about polyamory? Thank you all so much!
I want to share both the high and lows of navigating a polyamorous relationship for the first time, instead of just one or the other, to help poly newbies (and not-so-newbies) know that they are not alone in their joys or struggles. Â I write my thoughts and experiences for everyone, but especially for those who may be lost and confused about dealing with an "alternative" relationship for the first time.
It's tough sometimes, to put personal stories out there for public scrutiny (even anonymously), but it was the personal stories of others that really helped me, so I am grateful for your support and encouragement. Thank you all for reading and responding to my stories.

It's less complicated than you think
I just thought this was great and more people should see it.
I must have missed this on Twitter. Â Danielle is awesome, and keeps on getting more awesome all the time.
Wise words for life.
polyamorous ring
This is actually kinda sweet. Â I wouldn't wear it, but I think it looks neat anyway.
I did. Â I did live the life I imagined as a child. Â I had a degree, a good career, a husband with a good job, a house, a car, and a lovable pet. I'd hit every "relationship checkbox" and "life checkbox" (except for kids) you can think of, and you know what? It didn't make me happy. In fact, I was down right miserable. Â And confused about why I was miserable. Â After all, hadn't I done everything that I was supposed to do? What had I done wrong?
The trouble was, they weren't my dreams. Â They were the dreams I assumed I was supposed to have, but didn't think about them hard enough to see if they were really my dreams too. I went about trying to find happiness the wrong way.
Now I have a new life. Â It's different, and sometimes it's scary. Â Sometimes it's strange, and hard, and confusing. Â But it's exciting as well, and most importantly it feels right. I have a career in a field I never thought about before, I have a boyfriend who is already married, I live in a small apartment in a city I never thought I'd move to, and I am, for the most part, happy about it. I want to make some improvements here and there, but they will be conscious decisions, not unquestioned assumptions.
So I have a new take on this thought: Live the life you've consciously imagined. Don't assume the dreams society labels for you are your own, or your only options. Find what is the right life for you, even if there are some bumps along the way. It's worth it.

I don’t always trust this.  I should, though.  I've survived everything so far, so all past evidence indicates I'll survive through more and still be fine.
Someday I hope to believe this fully.
