Dungeon Map Symbols

I made a Legend of the top 40 dungeon map symbols most used in maps that I produce for various game publishers.  I also found this simple graph paper sheet with parchment border I made many eons ago....

Koriszegy Keep map I dug up deep in my flat files from days of yore...

I wanted to share it because it is a prime example of how we used to work in the cartography department at TSR.  Art was often drawn and inked in separate pieces, which were then shot on a stat camera and printed out on photostat paper which was run through a waxer and then the individual pieces were pasted up onto a single sheet of clear acetate. 

 All of the map tags were printed out separately as well from the typesetting department. In the case of large maps with a lot of tags I can recall spending a whole day hunched over the drawing table just cutting horizontal lines between each tag with a metal t-square, and then it was easy to slice two vertical cuts per piece of text with my trusty X-ACTO knife, and place each individual map tag in place. 

Once all of the elements were in place the whole piece was shot again as a single image and was then sent off to the design department to place in the book. Then all the pasted up pages went off to the printer.  

Over time we had amassed a ton of stock art that was already inked and waxed ready to go, so it would help speed up production in the case of tight deadlines, and the unforgiving management of TSR, good times :)

Made this simple micro mini war-game based off the old arcade classic “Armor  Attack”.  Pit the tanks and the choppers against the jeeps and battle it out in the ruined city.

I Made this Micro Mini Dungeon Quest “Microgame” for fun, easy to print out on card stock and cut out the play pieces and number chits. Use with your favorite game rules or make up your own!  Small enough to store in a small ziplock bag and keep with you for a quick game on the go.
