Everyone was right
I did love the ending of The End. It provided just the right amount of closure needed. The added bits are in the canon book materials if you just look hard enough, so I don’t feel like it betrayed Handler’s original intention at all.
The bit about Fiona and Fernald made me really happy. I was thrilled that we all but got confirmation that The Great Unknown is the Bombinating Beast. And Bea II meeting Lemony at long last… well, I bawled.
In short, it was everything I wanted it to be. For real @netflix you did us supreme justice to a series that means so much to so many of us. From the bottom of my heart, I am grateful.

hot take i actually really liked the ending of the asoue TV show!!!! i liked the ambiguity of the book ending but i feel like there’s a message here, in that like. despite everything that happens, despite all of the cruelty and indifference and selfishness in the world, despite the fact that no one is truly good or evil, and that there’s just no happy endings sometimes - despite all of that, you can have hope, and you can keep moving forward. or rowing forward. that’s something that’s more meaningful to me then ambiguous despair.

There’s something I’ve always found profoundly comforting about the quote “The Sad Truth is that the Truth is Sad.”
Because when life is hell, you don’t want to hear “it’s going to be okay” you want validation for how your feeling. And that quote is exactly that. Sometimes the truth is that life is sad and there’s nothing you can do about it. And that’s not okay, but it’s the way it is. And that has always comforted me and gotten me through hard times.
