Edward x Reader - First Meeting
“So this is who they’re replacing Miss Kringle with?”
The thought burned in his mind like the coffee in his hand. Edward took the newspaper that was neatly folded under his arm and emphatically set it down on his desk, along with his coffee, which sent steaming specks flying into the air. He cleared his throat and inquired to the female, “Can I help you?” in a snarky tone that said he did not want to. This woman who stood in his office turned suddenly to him, her eyes wide and curious as to who the forensic science technician of the GCPD was. Her sights landed on a rather lanky, pale, and surprisingly normal man who stood several inches over her. His long arms were crossed and his eyes stared coldly at her behind thick frames, waiting impatiently for the girl’s reply. “Uh- yes,” She struggled to remember what it was she needed him for. “You must be Mr. Nygma,” She said finally after a brief look at his name tag; right next to his neatly-pocketed pens. The female stuck out a hand for him to shake, and when he did not, she continued to explain why she was here. “The chief said you could show me around the records annex?” Of coarse, Edward thought bitterly as he placed a hand on his hip. He had arrived early enough to finish his crossword puzzle and relax for just a moment before work. The man sighed, figuring he could just finish it at lunch. “Very well,” he yielded, “follow me.”
“It’s not a hard job,” Edward told her after giving her a brief rundown of the records kept. “Just find a system and stick to it. And please, keep them in order.” The girl nodded her head. “Thank you, Mr. Nygma, I’ll keep that in mind.” And she smiled at him. Edward couldn’t remember when someone genuinely smiled to him at work, or how good it felt to be appreciated by colleagues. He found himself smiling back bashfully. “How awful I’ve treated her, he thought, “when she hasn’t done anything to deserve such abrasive responses.” The male fixed his glasses quickly, a tick he picked up in high-school when the pretty girls asked for his help on projects. “Do you like riddles, miss?” He asked abruptly, and then mentally scolded himself for being so uncoordinated. However, to his surprise, she didn’t say no. “Well, I’ll give it my best shot.” She said with another friendly smile. Edward grinned, unable to keep himself from getting all giddy. “What belongs to you but is used more by others?” The woman pondered all the different possibilities for a moment, then decided none of which she was thinking fit right. “I give up, what is it?” Edward had to commemorate her for not giving in as soon as he asked her. “Your name.” He revealed, and she laughed at herself for it being so simple. “That’s pretty clever,” She complimented. Edward was practically beaming as he confidently asked, “So, what’s your name?” “(Y/N) (Y/L/N),” She answered as she took Ed’s pale hand in greeting. “Well, Ms. (Y/L/N), I apologize for my rash behavior earlier. I’m Edward Nygma.” He confessed, and for some reason, couldn’t recall why he was even upset in the first place.
