Unpopular opinion: I liked this episode. Buck is sure of his place and embracing his role, for once. Chim is not indulging in his skepticism and pessimism and actually attempting to step up. Hen is being flooded with self-doubt and paranoia, which is new for her (at least since her stint at medical school). Maddie is happily being a mom off screen, Eddie and Chris are making peace with remembering their loved ones as last episode showed, Athena is not letting emotional trauma cloud her investigation and May is in a good place. Our family is calibrating

rewatching s2 and like - the thing about 2x01 eddie is that he doesn't exist, not really. that cool, confident, effortlessly competent wunderkind who swans in with a careless smirk and a breezily bitchy remark and instantly charms everyone and always has it together and never fucks up or fails or looks stupid - he doesn't exist. he's a product of buck's insecure, jealous pov. actual eddie, in 2x01, is a 26yo single father whose wife ditched him and who's desperately cobbling together a patchwork childcare system after he fled the state to get away from his parents and regain some sense of control over his life and some semblance of a relationship with his kid and this job has to go right, oh god, it fucking has to because he has no plan b -
and there's this FUCKING GUY who won't stop STARTING SHIT.
(turns out that's the love of his life)
and!! the cool effortlessly competent wunderkind who always has it together and never fails or fucks up or looks stupid is not the guy buck fell in love with. he hated that guy! that guy was an invention of his own insecurity, not a real person who could be loved.
the guy buck fell in love with is a dorky technophobe who kills houseplants and taught himself to cook and tries so hard to be a better father to his kid than his dad was to him - an anxious perfectionist and a closet romantic who loves gossip and cheesy soap operas, who is bad at communication and letting himself want things, who loves buck and is shocked, every time, to be loved in return.
