He couldn’t die in a fire. 

It was too embarrassing.

Fire killing a firefighter. At home. Off duty. Making fries. He could see the headlines already.

This was much more embarrassing than if he’d died in the tsunami, or after the lightning strike, or if he’d been shot, or buried, or crushed. His ghost would never live it down if he died here.

His time ran out before he could do anything about it. 

The ceiling creaked out one last lullaby, and then it came crashing down on his head. 

Shame.

He liked that kitchen.

I'm bopping all around your asks doing bits and pieces, ty for being interested <3 this one is on the serious side and if I'm honest, I might not ever finish it because i'm not sure who it's for, but here's one of the few light-hearted parts so far (i did 1800ish words in this doc today and this is the only part i feel okay to share, the rest was all quite morbid 🤣)

“Christopher?” Sophia asks, tense, breathing slowly and deliberately like she’s trying to calm down.

“Yeah,” Eddie says. Then he adds, “And Buck,” because it felt like an omission not to but that just makes Sophia shoots him a long side eye, assessing, and Eddie wishes he hadn’t.

“Buck is the Evan Tia Pepa talks about, yes?” Sophia asks after a long quiet moment. Eyes firmly on the road.

“Yeah.”

Sophia hums and Eddie wonders how much Pepa talks about Buck that Sophia would know his name well enough to put two and two together.

“He sounds like a good man,” she offers after a few moments. “A good friend?”

Eddie nods, feeling a little like a deer caught in headlights, “Yeah, he is.”

Sophia nods, shooting him another long assessing look before she looks back at the road.

“Pepa thinks you’re living together.”

Eddie nods, “He sublet from me while I was back here for Chris, and he hasn’t managed to find anywhere else to go yet. Everything in his price range has issues.”

Sophia hums again, something hidden just under the tone of it. 

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“Sophia.”

Work absolutely killed me this week so not much was written. However, words were made for Teddie Week 😌 Not sure how I feel about this, I might change what’s there for Shannon. Anyway 🦴🍎🦷

For the record, if it means anything to anyone besides himself, Eddie would like it noted that he does not want to be here. Here being the Flightpath, a respectable enough bar with a jukebox and bartenders who actually remember you. That's mostly irrelevant. The point is he didn’t ask to go out or be distracted into having a good time. And yet, here he is, beer in hand while he sits at the edge of a large high-backed booth with a few guys from work. One or two he might even call friends. But Eddie’s blown up his life, and been in the army, so he knows a thing or two about friends being both a wonderful and perilous thing to have.

Everyone needs friends–or a friend, at least–to count on and back them up. To help move or plan a convoy. Maybe even take out an enemy combatant or twelve before they could take him out. But all that logic kinda goes to shit when the chopper crashes or your best friend decides she doesn’t want to be married anymore. Specifically to you. When she decides for everyone that she’s not a very good wife or mother and needs to find herself again.

He’s not sure if he was more devastated by the news itself or that she wouldn’t even hear his arguments to the contrary. Shannon had been his best friend for the better part of a decade. But now? She’s a signature on a page, a ghost who technically has a place across town but has been on some Eat, Pray, Love adventure around the states. He never knows where she is, only where she’s been based on the postcards she sends to their kid. The most reliable information he knows is the windows are always dark at her apartment and her car hasn’t been there in at least six months.

So, yeah, there’s that.

But he’s here with a bottle of whatever’s on special, picking at the last of his fries while his companions make commentary on the Dodger’s game.

With season 10 right around the corner, we here at 911verse wanted to celebrate all of the things we loved about season 9! From shenanigans in space to the bachelor auction to this girl who is Going To Be Okay, there's lots to look back on and lots more to celebrate.
