they should make a sandhill crane emoji
im currently completely losing it about the great stalacpipe organ. are you fucking kidding me they made an organ out of a CAVE???? IT TAKES UP THREE ACRES??? i legit am about to lose it
this is a comment left on a recording of moonlight sonata played on an organ that is literally made out of a cave and its making me so emotional its not even funny
[image id: a youtube comment that reads ‘wonderful…and the moon has never shone there…’ end id.]
All that and no pictures??
According to Wikipedia, it works by hidden rubber mallets on the naturally-musical stalactites that tourguides have been knocking on for over a century. The guy who made the organ may have gotten the idea when his son whacked his head on a stalactite.
Here’s a video. It is hauntingly beautiful.
In case anyone is looking, here’s the link to the video op mentions.

the more i think about it the more im like damn rebecca sugar was onto something with gems as a species.
at first i thought they were just another alien race that's just humans but more specialer with fun colors and magic powers. i mean they are that's how the show got put on cartoon network but like. they're viruses! just straight up human sized, fully sapient viruses! it shows in basically everything about them! they literally reproduce by injecting their genetic information into different worlds and reshape planets to be perfectly tailored to their wants and needs, and once a planet can't sustain their growth, they leave and do the same to the next one. they emerge fully assembled and ready to carry out their purposes, but they need a host planet to provide most of the materials for the assembly. they're ROCKS. the projected "bodies" are just, like, really sophisticated exoskeletons or something, all of the important stuff is encapsulated in a gemstone that's a small fraction of the full thing, and not like a brain is because it's sort of capable of doing things on its own? but all of their functions of life happen inside of gemstones, and they need certain geological features to reproduce because they're entire biology is rock based. they don't seem to really understand other planets and humanity as "alive" because they know they're alive, and nothing else works how they do. when they take over a planet, killing native life would be like, idk, washing fruit before you eat it to get bugs and dirt off. except they're viruses so theyre trying to take over something that way bigger than them. and also gems are big enough to be sentient, and the other things on the planet are also big enough to be sentient, so the whole thing is painful on both sides.
tldr: what if viruses got so big, so sophisticated, there would be no way to deny they were alive. what if they were so intelligent, WE were the ones being debated over if we could be an intelligent species by a VIRUS. what if there's a way for life to exist so foreign to our understanding of biology, there isn't even any solvent. not just not water based, there's no fluids facilitating their function AT ALL. and what if, despite this, they were just like us. it's so crazy i love it so much
I don’t know why I watch videos about osha violations that happen in movies and video games but I’ve been doing it for years at this point and something about it is still very entertaining
It’s fun for some reason to look at something that was designed purely to be cool to look at and not to be used and go “hey none of these people are wearing hard hats”
Can you give some recommendations? This sounds extremely up my alley
Yeah sure here’s a few
Don't be fooled by the title; the majority of this guy's videos about "is X game realistic?" focuses on whether or not regulators would approve the lack of handrails on a given catwalk

Johto Beginnings, Myths & Legends
I don't think Tolkien is a good fantasy writer because he scored the highest at some objective Best Fantasy Book Test that every fantasy writer has to take, I think he's a good fantasy writer because he created a world based on things that he was interested in. I feel like a lot of fantasy writers think that they need to create a whole language for their world because Tolkien did and obviously his books are the best so they have to emulate him, but Tolkien did that because he was a linguistics nerd. I think the lesson to be learned from him is not that you have to include elves and deep history and new languages, but that you have to write endlessly about the things you are a huge nerd about and use those things to create your fantasy world

She's being so big and brave.
something about Toy Story toys is so strange to me. versions of animated characters based on real world toys, turned back into toys that are slightly different than the actual toys. slinky dog with a rubber spiral instead of a classic metal slinky. the porcelain bo peep and cloth woody turned into jointed plastic action figures. when toy story 4 came out and i saw a $30 talking action figure of forky, a character made out of a spork and a pipe cleaner, i stood in the walmart toy aisle staring at it like cameron from ferris bueller's day off staring at that painting in the art museum
