Pope is so used to being the big spoon- the protector- the guard dog. So he doesn’t exactly know how to handle the roles being reversed. It happens uneventfully. You slip into bed next to him, his back turned to you. His first instinct is to turn over and wrap himself around you. Surround you with his warm arms that say mine to anyone that might see. You place a hand on his shoulder, pressing him just gently enough into the mattress that he knows you want him to stay still. Then, a moment later, he feels your arms wrap around his waist. His breath hitches, he’s never been touched like this before- never been the one being held. But when your head settles into the crook of his neck and he can feel the steady fan of your breath against his skin reminding him that you’re there. That you’re real.
