as someone who has been groomed and has also been in toxic/abusive relationships, i too have sought out the same people who have hurt me for comfort when i definitely shouldn't. i have gone back to people who have done me wrong time and time again, a habit that was difficult to break.

lestat was pushed to a breaking point with his mental health and louis kept him at a distance as he always did and also the book came out so lestat had pulled away.

the writers have done their part researching trauma and how it impacts people long term and how hard it is to break cycles of abuse. it's so hard to not go back. it's addictive.

So far, the GLIMPSES we've seen of her aren't conflicting with her character in the books.

Gabrielle de Lioncourt is someone with a complicated relationship to gender written by someone with a complicated relationship to gender, which also guides a lot of interpretations. Anne Rice, herself, was pretty feminine presenting, but she often spoke about feelings of gender non-conformity. This is also a valid interpretation. And yes, I do think gnc people who don't fit neatly into one box or another also deserve representation.
