Summary:

Beau deals with (and heals from) his breakup with Josh by entering a slut phase. Charlie and Nico, who each think their feelings for the other are unrequited, deal with said feelings by–unbeknownst to the other–sleeping with Beau. It actually kind of helps? For multiple reasons, but the main one being that this series of events leads to Charlie and Nico finally getting their heads out of their asses and talking to each other about (and acting out) their feelings. Everyone gets their happily ever after.

Charlie Porter wondered if he was becoming one of those people who thinks Wolf shits unicorns, because he honestly thought it was a total alpha move by Wolf to steal the heart of a silver fox like Nichols away from a Brazilian beefcake like Pedrosa while simultaneously dealing with his own full-blown psychiatric crisis. Who else could pull that off?

It’s weird. Charlie sometimes feels like he misses Nico even when they’re standing there shoulder to shoulder (well, more like arm to arm, given the height difference) in the reception area going over files. Nico still keeps him updated on the throuple in the ICU, the latest Wolf-Nichols sighting (making out in the elevator yet again), and other tidbits of hospital gossip. But Charlie also gets the sense that Nico’s walking on eggshells around him since he asked Nico if he’s a bad person—like he’s worried if he says or does the wrong thing, Charlie will be the next one to break.

Beau’s friends had departed and Nico started quizzing him on differences between Spanish and Portuguese. They veered from neurology words to Beau asking “How do you say, ‘’I’m in my slut phase?’ in Spanish?”

English is pretty useless sometimes. That’s not the kind of I’m sorry Beau meant. So he switches to Portuguese. “Sinto muito.” The expression on Nico’s face makes it clear he doesn’t understand. Beau tries to remember the Spanish. He can’t remember if it’s an exact translation or if he’s supposed to throw in an extra pronoun the way Spanish loves to do. He gives it his best shot. “Lo siento mucho.”

Maybe Beau’s not so good at reading other people’s emotions. He sure wasn’t good at reading Josh’s. // No. That’s not true. He read Josh like a book. He just kept trying to convince himself he didn’t understand the language.
