PSA( Scam alert ): Tumblr “Account Restricted/Lurker” Comment Scam*

The scam:

You get tagged in a comment saying your account is “restricted” or you’re a “Lurker.” It tells you to click a link to “remove restrictions.” See attached screenshot for an example.

*DO NOT click the link or enter any info.* It’s phishing. If you log in, scammers can steal your account and use it to target your mutuals. *Some versions also ask for email, credit card, or bank details* under fake “verification” or “unlock fee” claims.

*What to do:*

1. *Don’t click* any links in the comment.

2. *Report* the comment and the post as “Spam or Scam.”

3. *Block* the account that tagged you.

4. *Never enter payment/bank info* for a Tumblr issue — Tumblr doesn’t charge to unrestrict accounts.

*How to know it’s fake:* Tumblr staff `@staff` will only contact you via email or your Activity page with a blue checkmark. They never tag multiple users in public comments, and they won’t ask for bank details.

I’m posting this because I almost fell for it, and other bloggers have seen the version asking for bank info too. Pinning this so it reaches more people. Also I was texting bloggers individually those who were tagged, some understood and some people blocked me thinking me as a scammer or bot( I get it 🙂)....I hope atleast you all cross check this once, before blocking me or something.... That's why I am making a post here( another reason)
