swooping is bad

“Eye movement detected.” Grace flails, somehow catching his glasses before they fall to the floor. He clenches his jaw and tightly crosses his fingers.  Stranger blinks a few times. His right eye is a deep, rich brown; the left is a red so vibrant that it’s almost luminous. He’s struggling to adjust to the lighting despite it being so dim. He’s been in a coma for six weeks, it’s expected. It takes him a while to realise he’s awake. 

Grace kneels on the floor for a few long minutes, but it doesn’t feel long enough. He absolutely stinks of rotten blood. It’s in his hair, it’s seeping through his clothes, it’s staining the clean stone floor of the lab. It’ll be a miracle if he ever gets it out. He takes a long, deep breath then stands up, grits his teeth and walks back into the med-bay. Stranger doesn’t look much better. If anything, he looks worse.
