Dear young(er) people,
Maybe no one told you this before, but for f*ck’s sake, please give a TWO WEEK NOTICE when you quit, even for your crappy retail or food-service job. You’re not screwing over the company or management by quitting short notice… you’re screwing over your already overworked and underpaid coworkers who now have to pick up your scheduled shifts for the next one-two weeks because you couldn’t just wait two weeks to quit.
I’m not talking about people who have some dramatic life event that suddenly makes going to work near impossible because that’s understandable. I’m talking about a lot of young people who think it’s perfectly acceptable to just call in or even text (yes, this has actually happened) management that they’re quitting.
If you don’t like the job and think it’s not for you, let management know. Don’t just be a no call/no show then call in that you quit. That only hurts your coworkers, who probably have to change their plans last minute, find a babysitter for their kids, and cancel important appointments to cover for your inconsiderate ass.
