Earlier today, a really fun memory surfaced that I wanted to share, because I haven’t had an opportunity to tell a story in a little while. It’s an older memory, so I’m sure some of the specifics aren’t entirely correct, but this is way I remember it.
In the early 2000s, I worked on a couple of movies that were direct-to-DVD, low budget versions of successful, big budget movies of the moment.…
“my father is a boy and my mother is a girl so i’m mixed” is the funniest possible response to someone asking your gender and it came from 6’5 Viking footballer and notable weird little guy Erling Haaland on a Snapchat
Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
mike, it's actually more interesting for audiences that margaret is an abusive religious fundie (and also a victim of marital rape) who tries to literally beat the idea of sin into her daughter, it is actually TIMELY to adapt that correctly at this particular american moment. WHY is he so scared of every piece of source material that has ever been handed to him? i MUST know

Summary: Leon Kennedy is on a job. Just a job. Yes, there's zombies. But sometimes, when you know your work, very little surprises you. Especially when you've been at this over a decade. So he was not expecting much from this job-- which is why the Firehouse's unusually large zombie hoarde made him curious. What were the trying to get at? Why was it blinking and...warm? Leon discovers a Safe Haven box with a newborn baby boy in it and demands Ingrid get a doctor on the comms...now. Despite the less than ideal conditions he can't help but feel attached to the orphan he pulled out of hell...the same way he had been as a baby.
RATING: PG 13 overall, R in some spaces. This is not as horror-forward as the others.
Warnings: none really? This is Resident Evil so prepare yourselves for SOME RE style horror but this is overwhelmingly a fluff piece
Word Count: 2700
A/N: Many small moments coming!
Author Masterlist -- Leon Kennedy Masterlist
Leon’s mandatory rest period would eventually run out and when it did? You would miss him. There were two weeks where he was not allowed to return to work after a mission and during that time he was really interested in helping you with J.D.
The first night with J.D. was one for the books– maybe two hours after you’d fallen asleep the baby was wailing and you woke up and so did Leon. He was embarrassed, “Uh…Jesus, sorry, I must’ve–”
When he woke he instantly kept his hand on the baby, even pressing down a bit more to try and ease him, but he was looking around the room instead of down at the baby. You were already halfway to the crib, reaching down, immediately felt the diaper was full, and Leon retracted his hand as you scooped up the baby.
“It’s ok– but he’s wet and hungry. You’re welcome to go or stay or–”
“Help? I feel like I should help.” He stood up, “Diapers? I’ll…I’ll get the bag thing.”
You nodded, “I’ll be in the kitchen warming a bottle.”
“10-4.” He was more awake than you were but you vaguely wondered if he was used to that. He would sleep then pop up and have to be ready. You’d never had quite this schedule.
“Shh, shhh–” You were bouncing J.D. on your hip as the bottle warmed and then Leon held up a diaper bag in the entrance to your kitchen.
“Where do you want it?”
“Couch or, uh, floor? I don’t want him to roll off because I’m tired–”
“I won’t let him roll.” Leon put the diaper bag on the couch and indicated the screaming baby, “Do you want me to change him?”
“I forget, have you done that yet?”
“I’m great at learning on the job.” He smirked and you let him walk over and take the baby while you fiddled with the bottle warmer. You watched over your shoulder– it was hard to not watch when you didn’t know if someone had any experience whatsoever.
Leon settled the baby against his chest and said, “Chill, man, chill– I’m working on it. You’re whining like you’re a baby or something.”
He chuckled at his own joke but J.D. squawked in that deep guttural cry of a newborn and Leon startled, “Woah, man, come on, that’s not cool….let’s see what sort of diaper we’re working with. Please let it be pee, I’m still learning.”
He laid the baby down gently, eyed the onesie for a moment before pulling at the snaps, and then watching how it went together before pulling the baby’s leg free, “Who designed this? Why is one leg so high and the other is so low? That’s stupid, this is not easy.”
“They make some that go down both legs. Personally, the snaps are not my favorite, I like the zipper but none of the zippers are two legged.”
“None of that made sense to me yet, but I’m sure it will–oh! What the…”
“Everything ok?” You called out.
“Uh, yeah…mustard. You were right. It’s like mustard.”
“Yeah, they don’t smell as much in this stage, but they can get rank.”
“Wait this is low odor?” Leon scoffed, “Uh, hang on bud, hang on, don’t roll.”
“He can’t roll on purpose but he can on accident–”
“I got one hand on him.”
You emerged with a bottle and saw Leon did have the situation handled– one hand on a baby that was naked and becoming progressively more upset. One hand digging through a diaper bag and then triumphantly pulling out a diaper. As he turned to put it back on J.D. the baby shrieked and a stream of pee flew into Leon’s face.
“What the fuck?!”
“Oh shit! I should’ve…” You were giggling, what else was there to do as a response? “I should’ve warned you, they…boys can really pee.”
“It’s in my eyes!”
“If it makes you feel better it’s much cleaner than getting poo in your eye which would almost certainly give you pink eye.”
“Can I get a towel?”
“Wet wipe first–” You reached out and took a wipe, wiping down Leon’s face. It was the first time you were this close to him and you suddenly realized you were in pajamas, no make up, nothing to hide behind. Even now? The man was gorgeous.
He blinked, “Thanks–” His eyes settled on you and he smiled, warmly, “Uh, I might need a hand–”
You put the bottle in the baby’s mouth to soothe them, “No you’re doing fine, he just needs to stop fighting you.”
Leon waited and saw the baby calm and when he did Leon got to the task of putting the clean diaper on and getting the onesie buttoned back up. At that point you nodded, “Want a turn feeding him?”
“How do I–?”
“Scoop up–” You nodded to the baby and waited for Leon to do it before handing him the bottle, “--and just angle it into his mouth. Then hold position until he’s done. Then burp.”
“Easy-peasy.”
You watched Leon effortlessly walk around your little living room holding that baby and felt the same squeeze deep inside that all the nurses had gone through. It was a sight. It was a good sight. And what’s more? You weren’t alone on this first night, and the first night was the scariest.
“Hey?” You said and he looked over at you, so you cleared your throat, “Thanks. For, uh, staying. It’s…it’s been an overwhelming day. I’m happy to have company.”
A smile erupted on his face, “Thanks for not kicking me out…let me know if I overstay my welcome.”
You checked your watch, “It’s 2 am, which means–”
“You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here?” Leon tried and you snorted.
“It means I can’t get bagels until 5am. So we have another stretch of sleep, then food’s a possibility…can I convince you to stay for food? I don’t want to keep you from anything…”
“Eh, my fish’ll be fine. They got those little food bombs, they’re going to be set for another few days. Where are you getting bagels? I only like Nadine’s even if that makes me a snob.”
“I can arrange Nadine’s…”
He fed and burped a baby and tucked him back in your room before he put his thumb behind him, “I’ll stop sleeping in your bedroom, if it’s cool I’ll take the couch?”
You were overtired and nearly invited him to just share the bed but held back at the last minute, “I’ll get the air mattress up next time.”
“You have nice couches, they’ll be golden.”
When he was gone you looked at the baby and sighed, “Oh my…that’s…well…just as unexpected as you, little man.”
Leon was many things and you came to learn a lot of them. Those first few days you became acquainted with his efficiency. You got up with the baby at 4:15am and Leon was up too.
“I have a hair trigger for a few days after a job. It’s truly fine.” He offered to get the bagels and you protested.
“You bought dinner–”
“You have your hands full–” He winked, “Tell me your order.”
He took it and got it precisely right. When he came back in he had a bag in hand, a small duffle, and he said, “Can I impose and use your shower or is that too much?”
J.D. was sound asleep on your chest and you were flipping through the channels, “No problem. I have to go to work by 10 and–”
“You have a baby!” Leon protested.
You shrugged, “You heard Richter. I didn’t see sympathy or a side of maternity leave. Let’s just see if we can get that pack and play into my office.”
“I’m off– I don’t mind keeping him.”
“I don’t mind you keeping him but—” You hesitated and didn’t want to be rude, “and please– I appreciate everything you’ve done. You are amazing. But if you were here, alone with him and he choked or needed a hospital…do you have a carseat?”
Leon nodded, “I get what you’re saying…at least I had some practice getting yours in. I can pick one up.”
You were blown over, “Has anyone mentioned that you are…”
“Handsome? Charming? A terrible poker player?”
You shook your head, “You don’t know him or me but you are being just…incredibly generous with the help. It’s humbling. Truly. I don’t know that I’ve ever met someone that willing to just put boots to the ground to get the help done.”
He fucking blushed, “It’s no trouble.”
He said that a lot but you imagined none of this was as easy for him as he played it.
He was out of the shower, at a store by 9am and had a carseat fully installed and was back to your house before 9:45am meaning you were only about 5 minutes late to work.
“You really made it.” You were impressed. You pointed to the fridge, “There’s liquid formula and the empty bottles are just here on the counter next to the bottle warmer. Warm not hot. He is just a baby. You give it to him too hot and it will just burn him.” Leon nodded, “And those pre-made ones?”
“More should be coming, I was doomscrolling and filled out a bunch of sample requests so brace for impact. They love sending samples hoping people get hooked.”
“You make them sound like drug dealers.”
“I mean—” You shrugged, “I worked with a lot of babies and a lot of first time parents. First time parents are panicky. They’re being tasked with keeping a baby alive and it’s scary. They are easily persuaded that only this specific thing will do. You can use those premade bottles, just warm them. It’s simple now– milk, diaper, sleep, repeat.”
“It is a little scary. He cries.”
“He does.” You consented, “I’ll be back on lunch…what do you like for lunch?”
“I’m easy. Food is food.”
“Just not with bagels?”
“Those other things aren’t bagels.” He shook his head, “Rolls with holes.”
“A perfect name for a punk band.” You clapped your hand over your mouth, “Sorry, sometimes– sometimes things pop out.”
He was laughing, “That’s right though– perfect name for a punk band. Uh…say bye J.D.”
J.D. was awake and not crying and not eating– a combo that was new and didn’t tend to last long. Leon was holding him and even so you leaned down to kiss the baby’s head putting you inches from Leon’s chest.
You tried valiantly not to think about the chest, but you couldn’t help thinking about the baby. You were distracted the whole way to work and when you got there Rebecca didn’t help. She was waiting for you at your office door with a coffee, “How’s the little guy?”
“J.D. or Leon?”
“J.D.?”
“The, uh, baby. We thought calling him the baby wasn’t…great. And–”
“John Doe sounds weird.” Rebecca nodding, catching on. “J.D. is cute. Like J.T.T., remember him?”
“Don’t we all?” You accepted the coffee and Rebecca persisted.
“Nothing weird happened? No…like weird things?”
“He’s a newborn, it’s all weird. He pooped? Which is good. He’s eating and crying. Might need to try a little more gentle cleaning of the umbilical area because he had that late–”
“But nothing weirder, right?”
You narrowed your eyes, “Like what?”
Rebecca had worked the field and new what sorts of horrible things could await you, but she didn’t want to scare you. Not yet, “Where’s the baby now? We’ve never had a baby…is he ok?”
“He’s with Leon.”
Rebecca let go of a breath, “Perfect. He’ll be safe with Leon.”
That part you absolutely agreed with.
It took you a moment to realize Rebecca wasn’t worried about you taking care of the baby, or Leon taking care of the baby, but some other ominous thing. You swallowed, “You…were you worried? About…” You circled your finger around the office and Rebecca did put her finger to her lips for silence.
“Let’s take a walk, shall we? Come on Flossy.”
“I hate that name.”
“It’s adorable. You sound like a collie.”
“I don’t think that helps.”
“OK what are you more– Back to the Future? Come on Marty, we gotta get back to the future—” Rebecca pulled at your arm until you were both in a breezeway. It connected the two buildings of your DSO department and was for outdoor breaks, eating, etc. Once there Rebecca sighed, “They can’t hear as well out here, the ambient noise.”
“You think…who, Richter? Was spying on us?”
“Probably not before yesterday but we caught her with her pants down, sort to speak. We surprised her, and I bet it was bad for business. That is definitely bugged, I’m going to run a sweep covertly later.”
“How do you–”
“Don’t worry.” Rebecca nodded, “I know how to, nothing will get broken.”
You smiled and shook your head, “You know what? I trust you. I never did any of the other kind of work….but you really think she’s done that?”
“Oh yeah.”
“Jeez…he’s just a baby.”
“He’s been exposed. They destroyed a town. It makes for super bad press. It shows they never really did get a handle on bioweapons? Worse– makes kids look like they’re in danger.” Rebecca ticked off each reason on her finger, “We’ve all…seen that side of the bureaucracy. Sherry and Leon and Claire and Chris and Jill and….they keep us alive because we’re useful. We are some of the only people who get out of those situations. We also just…we’ve seen too much. We know too much. It’s here or dead– I think we all know that.”
You felt cold just run down your spine.
It was a hard day to focus while you worked and Rebecca was a goddamn champion in the process – she was acting like nothing was wrong and she was sympathetic with you.
“It’s…a balancing act. The stress and the fear and the getting shit done anyway. It’ll make sense to you. It’s like residency in that way.” Rebecca tried to bridge that gap for you but the space between your experience and theirs was wider than a canyon. All you knew was that you’d volunteered to protect this baby and you were in it now– you’d have to learn and adjust.
“Will you, uh…tell me when you…what? Swept the office?”
“Yeah no worries.” Rebecca confirmed, “And just…if Leon needs to go and you need hands you have my number, and I’ll text you Sherry’s. We are in this together–you need someone watching out for him. You were tough with Richter but if they send someone in who is big and muscly and intimidating? I want you to have back up. Not that I don’t trust you, but you deserve back up and we will provide it. We already talked about it.”
For some reason that hurt your feelings.
Why had you let yourself believe that Leon S. Kennedy would simply volunteer to help you just because he liked you?
It’s just about the baby and this other nonsense and that’s completely fine…
Still, though, it stung.
It stung when you went back to work
It stung when you picked up subs for lunch.
It stung when you got home and he started awake on the couch with the baby sleeping on his chest, one hand securing the baby and the other patting the cushion next to him as if he expected a gun and a worse person in the room.
They really are scared the higher-ups will do something crazy…
“Hey! Sorry to scare you–” You held up the bag, “I brought sandwiches?”
It made him smile at you, “Amazing. I was just resting my eyes.”
It wouldn’t kill him to be less charming, but it might break a little piece of you if he couldn’t bring the general level of charm down to a safer region. It was like radiation at this point– and you were in danger of getting poisoned.
A/N: Also it should be repeated-- it will be made clearer later but J.D. is not white-- I think of him as Latino. Not only will Leon be raising a baby that is not his, but it doesn't remotely look like him and he couldn't care less, that's his boy.

I love this Leon, who is so willing to jump in and do things he has no idea (or a vague idea) how to do. Like it's probably a usual thing for his job that he has to improvise or learn something quickly, so partly it's just that not knowing how to do something is not a barrier to him doing that something. But this does feel different, despite what Doc may think. Leon does care about everyone on some level, but it's clear he's formed a bit of an attachment to JD and Doc. Sure, it helps that he doesn't have much else to pull him away, but a sense of duty only goes so far.
I was wondering when Doc was going to mention the boy pee situation lol. Poor Leon. Although at this point, he has been in so many sewers that a little infant pee is downright sanitary in comparison. I love that it doesn't really faze him that much.
LOVE the idea of Leon blushing from the compliment because at this stage, there probably isn't a lot that would actually make him blush. RE 2 Leon? Blushing every two minutes. But now? Not so much. I can see that being so genuinely complimented and seen over how much he is willing to help strangers would make him blush a little.
That being said, I think it matters who is seeing him for who he is. I get why Doc is dismayed when she thinks that Leon is only helping like this because that's what he and his friends do. To a certain extent, yes that is true. But I think if someone else had taken in JD, then it wouldn't quite be like this. Leon would still help, but might not have stayed overnight, for example. His rapport with Doc matters in the equation.
Looking forward to more baby shenanigans! (And many small moments of Leon and Doc being into each other!)
Resident Evil Miami: Part 12: Leave Me Behind, or, Another Way Out
Title: Resident Evil: Miami
Pairing: Leon Kennedy x Dr. Cait Barrow (female OC)
Summary: Made in the style of a DLC, following a post RE9 Leon backtracking to a very important mission, takes place 2014-2015. Leon is sent to recover a missing, potentially kidnapped doctor, and as he investigates he is lead to the vacation mansion of James Marcus, former Umbrella scientist who went rogue. The Marcus Mansion has all the quirks of a Trevor house and to make matters worse it is in Miami, right by the water, and a hurricane is approaching. Can Leon Kennedy save the doctor, defeat the BOWs, and get the hell out before he's swept away?
Character: Dr. Caitlin Barrow, scientist. Female, early 30s, who was minding her own business when a would-be investor in her research kills her partner, black-bags her head, and she wakes up who the fuck knows where and what the fuck is that.
She's an OC and if you liked the reader-insert Doc from "First, Do No Harm" you'll like this one though she is going to be white and, again, in her 30s when Leon's also in his 30s. He's about 37 by my count, I was going to have her come in around 34-35.
This is the promised "DLC" that I mentioned while writing the Leon x reader fic "First Do No Harm" (which is complete and on the Leon Masterlist)
RATING: R for the series
Warnings: none really? This is Resident Evil so prepare yourselves.
Word Count: 3300
A/N: A "core" moment is here, one of the things that I thought of first and worked the whole thing around.

Last time….
“When my pets are done with you, Mr. Kennedy, I will be bringing Dr. Barrow to Cuba regardless of whether or not she sees my vision. Maybe she just needs to be persuaded. Either way, the DSO is not going to take the key to my coming storm, Mr. Kennedy.”
Cait felt her stomach drop and she looked at Leon, “What do we do?!”
He eyed the computer, “We get over there, to the corner, back against the wall, and you start digging. Once you and Ingrid are in the system we might get some leverage. That and…I better hope I have good aim.”
He and Cait jogged to the desk where she threw herself at it and Leon tossed her his drive for Ingrid, “Work fast, I’ll cover you as I can.”
He had his Magnum out and shot one licker twice, another three times, and the two surviving ones screeched and climbed the walls. As they did the first wave of other zombies began falling through the broken glass of the mirrored room and Leon holstered the Magnum to take out the two 9mms, firing off into the crowd and trying to take down as many as he could. The lickers jumped by him and he shot at their tongues, injuring one, but he noticed they never moved to hurt Cait.
“Looks like I got their attention, Cait—”
She plugged his drive into Raul’s computer and slid the override card through a reader, “Uh…Ingrid? Are you there?”
“Where are you two? Why are his vitals in panic mode?”
“Uh, lickers. And zombies. And Raul…we’re in Raul’s computer, can you get me files?”
“Files, security codes, your wish is my command.”
“Hurry. We’re horribly outnumbered.”
Leon took a grenade and launched it into the room at a crowd of zombies but Raul barely flinched, “Is that the best you can do, Agent Kennedy?”
Right now the room was decently clear– maybe four of the initial zombies actively on their feet and a few others twitching, perhaps in their final throes or perhaps waiting. There were still two lickers.
Raul raised his hands again with a smirk and Ingrid made a choked sound, “He…what did he do? Why…why are they all coming to your location?”
“What do you mean all?”
“I mean…I mean all.”
Cait looked at Leon, the screen, the room of blood and bodies, and Raul’s horrible smile, “Fuck.”
“Ok, ok…” Cait’s breathing was ragged, “Files. Get me the files.”
“Getting files–”
Leon shot at the zombies, 9mms in both hands, until they clicked and he had to reload. It gave the onslaught an opening and they nearly got to him, so he rolled further to the side and popped up on a knee to take the rest of the shots.
“What’s going on Cait?”
“Barricade the door!”
Raul smiled and clenched his fist, causing a roar from the hall. Cait saw and said, “He’s controlling them! You have to get the parasite off of him!”
Leon looked around and shot the keycard pad which locked the door. He saw that there was furniture, sparse, around the room. Chairs, couches.
I can’t move all that and fight them, not alone.
He shot a few of the closer zombies and pulled his rifle, aiming for Raul’s head, but a zombie popped up as the shot rang out.
“Fuck!” Leon shouldered the rifle and ran to the lab. It was slightly higher ground and the window sill made for a blockade of sorts. He had to shoot a few locally with his shotgun but the rifle would give him distance and distance was safety, plus he could keep cover fire around Cait and wait to try and scope Raul.
“I can’t get a clean shot!”
Raul laughed at them, “It would be easier to come with me, Dr. Barrow.”
“Fuck right off.” Cait hissed and was reading the files but Ingrid was in her ear, telling her not to worry.
“You won’t have a test in five minutes, I’m getting off of this to Leon’s phone, you’ll be able to look at it from there. But remember– security is biometric. I can’t get you out of the room without it. And those things? They can get in. Force alone will be an issue…I didn’t….I didn’t know this many people were on the island….”
Cait swallowed hard and was on the computer trying to see what, if anything, was there.
SYSTEM ACCESS
“Ingrid? What does SYSTEM ACCESS grant you?”
“Anything that doesn’t need DNA…why? What did you have in mind?”
“You said there was a security lockdown, a bad one?”
“Yeah?”
The wall and door were pulsating and the roar of the zombies on the outside of it was loud. There was an ear-splitting CRACK as the wood began to give way, and a SCREECH as the metal was pulled.
Cait looked around and realized that Leon, functionally alone, wouldn’t be any good against an army of zombies. He was making admirable work of what was in here but too many more? She was worried and in her worried she missed Raul reaching out and grabbing her arm from across the desk. She used the desk for leverage, pushing it against him as Leon screamed, “CAIT!”
A shot rang out next to where Raul’s hand was on Cait and Leon yelled, “I don’t have a clear shot!”
The desk jostled Raul and she reached into her bag and grabbed the taser, shooting one round into Raul and holding it until he fell to the floor. Just as he did fall the door eeked open and there was a flood of zombies, though without Raul directing them the flood was jointly as interested in Cait as Leon.
“INGRID!” Cait shrieked, “CAN YOU PUT THE BIG SECURITY MEASURES IN?!”
“I can’t fix that they opened that door…it’ll only block off the halls. I’m afraid they’re in with you– you two need to find another way out and fast.”
Leon jumped through the window of the lab, he was throwing glass bottles and test tubes to attract the zombies, whistling, “Hey! Uglies! Over here! I’ve been missing you!”
He took out the shotgun and cocked it, “Come here! That’s right…yeah, smile for the birdie.”
BAM
BAM
Raul was staggering to his feet. Leon switched to the two handguns and was shooting to keep a perimeter. Cait was backing into a corner, clutching her bat.
She had a sound grenade and threw one, which did make all the zombies around her stagger and clutch their heads.
From down below there was a crashing sound like something large had also heard it. There was a distant roar.
Raul stood up full and stretched, wagging his finger at Cait, “Now now, not very friendly. Please wait a moment, my dear, as we have an unwanted guest taking up our valuable time.”
He turned, cocking his head to the side, and smiling at Leon, “Should have left when you had the chance, Mr. Kennedy.”
“Well I was never very good at taking a hint.”
Raul pointed to Leon and the zombies trudging towards Cait stopped, turned, and redirected themselves. Leon set his jaw and started aiming, but he took a grenade and tossed it in the middle, aiming for close to Raul.
It wasn’t close enough to damage Raul, but it was close enough to push him off his feet for a moment.
Maybe it was why he didn’t see the next hit coming.
Cait charged Raul and smashed at his head and neck with her bat, striking his head so hard that he fell to the ground and his eye popped out of its socket. When he raised his head to look at her he actually smiled, he didn’t scream. Her bat cracked in half from the impact and she discarded it, grabbing the other one out of her backpack. The parasite was twitching and he opened his mouth and a growl came out.
“Shit!”
“That wasn’t very nice.” He said but his voice sounded altered and he reached his hand out to her. The gesture made the room change– the focus that had been on Leon totally shifted to her. Two dozen of them stopped going after Leon and turned to begin coming directly at her.
“Don’t bite– we need her fresh.” Raul himself, again, got to his feet and tried to grab her but at that moment a BAM echoed.
Cait flinched because metal shot out, but it was shards.
Raul rubbed at the back of his neck and turned to look at Leon with his head and eye socket already rebuilding themselves out of muscle and tissue. He raised his hand but the zombies in the room previously obeying him stopped. They paused, looked around, then started screeching or dodging towards something else besides Cait.
“Looks like your friends don’t want to hear your bullshit anymore.” Leon snorted, taking out the rifle and aiming again, but his shot missed as Raul dodged. At least it took out a zombie.
From a distant hall there was a rumble, vaguely of ‘Noise!’ and Cait sucked in a breath. She had to swipe her bat at the zombies closest to her and dodged back to the desk, tapping her comm device, “In-ingrid? Can you access the PA system here?”
“Why?”
“Can you make music or something?”
“Why?”
“I want to create a big angry distraction up here. Focus some loud annoying noise through just this room’s speakers, make it as loud as you can.”
Ingrid chuckled, “I have a great idea…”
On Ingrid’s screen was an impressive number of windows. She knew what each did. If Leon knew that Ingrid was monitoring everything from his Amazon wishlists to his electric bill he never let on, but she was pulling up something particular now, “Leon’s got a gym playlist…it’s loud and angry. Will that work?”
Ingrid didn’t really wait for the response, she was busy feeding music through just the Director’s office speakers, and when the opening bars of the song dropped Leon perked his head up and smirked, reloaded his rifle, and got to shooting.
It’s just one of those days when you don’t want to wake up….
He picked off as many as he could, but he was often using 3 or 4 bullets to finally get them down. Raul kept getting closer to Cait and Leon shot out his knee, but he started regenerating almost instantly.
Every time he regenerated a part of himself it was larger, grosser, and more monstrous. Tenacle-like shoots were coming off of his neck, his knee, and they were also reaching out for Cait.
“CAIT!” Leon shouted, but it was no use. The music was so loud. She couldn’t hear him. As much as he was enjoying the slip into his own sounds he couldn’t call for her to get to him. She was stuck on the other side, and he was nearly out of ammunition.
Something’s gotta give or she’s done. I can’t let this guy get his hands on her, I just can’t.
Then, something broke through the music.
“NOISE!”
Greg barrelled through the door, crushing the wall in the process, beside himself with fury and pain, “NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!”
As soon as Greg barreled through the wall the security protocol alarms started sounding and the whoosh of bars and metal sheaths descending came.
“Well…that’s a problem for later, I guess.” Ingrid said.
Raul hissed, his malformed head bigger, his body growing. He turned, “Greg! What a mess you’ve made of yourself.”
“NOISE!” Greg had his arms stretched out reaching for Raul. When a zombie turned to screech at him he would grab it, flinging it to the ground so hard it exploded, or popping it with his bare hand like an overripe grape, “STOP NOISE! STOP NOISE!”
Raul turned his attention from Cait to Greg– he slapped at the monster with a tentacle but it only made Greg set his feet, and absolutely charge into Raul, pinning him against the far wall.
“NOISE!” He slammed Raul against the wall.
“NOISE! STOP! NOISE!” With each word Raul was smashed against the mass of Greg and the zombies bothering Leon and Cait were all flooding Greg now. The wall was weakening, a massive crack forming along it, and then with a powerful thrust Greg broke through– Raul fell out the window, with Greg on top of him, and the zombies trying to get onto Greg were drawn to with them. There was a huge crashing sound outside.
There were only four zombies left and Cait panicked, took her taser, and hit the one closest to her, holding the trigger until it was a burned out carcass.
Leon took out his knife– there was sufficient noise that the zombies were confused and he took out the last three from behind with a fatal stab to the head.
The music lowered, but didn’t shut off entirely.
“Limp Bizkit, hmm?” Cait teased him.
“Well it does make me want to break stuff, which comes in handy.” Leon shrugged and he began walking to the massive hole.
The Director’s Office was partially in shambles. There was one fun feature though– the outdoor wall, when it had broken, had sort of ideally let in a pole with utility rope that was going all the way down to a big empty hole in the ground where, if you strained your eyes, there was a monorail track.
Leon whistled through his teeth, “One shot, straight down.”
Cait nodded, “Yeah.”
The utility pole was cracking, and the rope was flimsy– you’d have to be able to hold yourself on and slide all the way down without falling.
“Ladies first?”
“There’s no way I can do that…” She shook her head and took the monorail card and the lab report out of her bag, “But you can.”
“Yeah but how are you getting down then?”
She looked around, “Maybe we should just…really think about that. Listen I know you were assigned to bring me back–”
“Cait–”
“And I would give a five star review to that. You really did a great job– excellent saving, great Knight in Shining Armor, really, 10 out of 10. No notes. I would never ever say you didn’t do a great job saving me here, but there is no way your shoulder can support my weight and I can’t get down here. I don’t even like your shoulder supporting your weight but it probably can…so why don’t you take the files and the report and go back?”
“Cait, come on now, that’s not happening. You’re coming with me, we’re going home together.”
“You’re being very sweet and I appreciate it but…honestly? Look around. You should just…just leave me. Leave me here. Storm’s coming in, it’s bound to sink this place to Atlantis. No way I’m getting out of here which was pretty obvious from the moment they killed Jan. But you? You can get out and you should and you should take this stuff we found already back to your people. They can maybe make sense of it and–”
“That’s not how this is going to go–”
“Leon, listen! I…I don’t have anyone who will miss me. Not now. I worked all that time and this–” She gestured to the building, “this is what people did with it! Even after I destroyed it, it just came back, and maybe…maybe that’s the sign. I don’t have it in me to start from scratch again, and nobody…nobody would care. Nobody would notice. There’s nobody who would miss me.”
“The thing is?” He put a hand on her shoulder, “I would, and I count double. So that’s not happening. If you’re not coming down that thing, I’m not going either. We just have to find a different way down. And look on the bright side, it’s not like the building is full of monsters and the ocean’s crashing down on us.”
It did manage to make her laugh.
The security walls and bars were down in the halls and Leon looked at them, “Well…that’s…thick. And very secure.”
There was a security pad with a scanner on the other side of the bars. If they only had something that could reach it, they’d be in great shape, but what would…
Cait sucked in a breath, “Wait a minute….”
She ran back into the room and picked up Raul’s eyeball and tried to reach the scanner on the other side of the bars. She offered it to Leon, who took it with an eyeroll, “You know just what a guy wants…”
As soon as the eyeball registered on the scanner the bars began to lift.

"Raul’s eyeball" EEEEEWWWWWWW. Yeah, I'd let Leon deal with that.
Welp, there it is. To be fair to Raul, he only started mutating after Leon destroyed the parasite casing. Guess that will have to be in the fine print when he finally goes to market with the parasite, huh? LOL. "May cause uncontrollable horrific mutations if stopped suddenly. Consult your doctor if rampages occur."
I can't wait to see who survives the Raul vs Grigori fight. It's such a win-win scenario, I'm okay with any outcome. Well...I suppose I am still hoping Cait gets to fight Grigori since he treated her so badly ("Research this, asshole!" *taser to the groin*), but truly as long as one of them ends the other, I'm fine. Nightmare scenario is both survive and Leon and Cait have to defeat both of them...but I'm not playing on Nightmare difficulty, am I? AM I?!!!!!
AWWWWW. I love that Leon is hearing none of it. I get why Cait feels that way since she was kidnapped for the most aggressive, compulsory job offer ever. And it's hard for her to not feel responsible for everything happening around her, particularly after Raul more or less said she is five minutes ago. I can't even imagine how tired, in every sense of the word, she is. I appreciate that Leon doesn't try to argue with her about her culpability (because that would just prolong the argument) and just simply says he cares about her so they have to stick together. And then deflects with a joke because he's Leon and he has a million of them that mostly only zombies get to hear.

Word Count: 3200
A/N: Had a hard time finding the scene ends, and this one will be a "re-read the end at the beginning of the next" chapter.

The Director’s office was at the top of a small flight of stairs with ornate lights all over. There was a keycard slot and Leon inserted the keycard, the light turned green on top of it, but the door didn’t move. He cocked his head, hitting it like it was an errant vending machine, “Hey. You took the card.”
He ran a hand over the door frame and then looked at the door’s lock, “Hey Cait, you got those keys from before?”
The Nautical Key and the Staff Key both fit into keyholes on the director’s door, but there was another slot. It was fish shaped and Leon sighed, “Looks like we need another one.”
“That’s annoying.”
He ran a hand over his face, “I wish I was surprised, but this tracks. Trevor projects. Nightmares, to a man.”
Cait looked down the hall, “I guess it’s back the other way–”
“Well I needed to get my steps in anyway.” Leon took out a shotgun and checked that it was loaded as they began the walk back towards the other office.
Security Office & Surveillance Center
“At least they’re good about labeling.” Cait groused. The security office door had the same symbol as the remaining key, “Do you think the key will just be on a wall?”
“Hope springs eternal.”
The security office, at least, had more dead guards. More ammo on hand. More grenades. An additional kevlar vest which Leon insisted Cait put on, “It’s stylish. All the girls will want one.”
It did mean that he had to help velcro it onto her and when he pulled the last strap he realized they were close. Very close.
“That feel ok?”
For a second she was lost, “Feels great.”
“Great…”
“Leon, you’ve been neglecting me. I thought we had something.”
Ingrid’s voice pulled him out of his reverie and he tapped the comm, “We’re in the security office, I was just going to call you. What do you want me to do?”
“Put the drive in the slot and let me work.”
He pulled her drive out and inserted it, Cait was watching, “Is there any way she can show me what they’re doing? I can tell you guys what I see, maybe it could be helpful?”
“Ing? You hear that?”
“Loud and clear— have her take the driver’s seat on the laptop please, there’s going to be a bunch of things flooding the screens.”
Cait sat down, nervous at first, but then as Ingrid promised many many windows flew across the screen.
“Can she sort by modification of the metadata?”
“Gezundheit?” Leon leaned closer, “Say that again.”
“Can you please sort by the modification of the metadata?”
“Sure, I can also color code and alphabetize and make them look like a smiley face on the big screen.”
Leon looked down at Cait who was absorbed in the information, “Ok, metadata first, then I want it broken up by primary author, separate them into columns.”
The screen mimicked whatever she asked for.
“I feel like you two girls don’t need me.”
“Right now we don’t.” Ingrid chirped and he sighed, taking the earpiece out and reaching over to Cait, “Here, let me get you two set up.”
He brushed her hair behind her ear and it made a bolt of heat shoot down her spine, she cocked her head so he had better access. It made him stare at her neck and whether or not he meant to his fingers trailed from her hair, to the line of her neck, and settled on her shoulder. After he had the comm device put in he seemed to realize his hand was useless but it still took him a moment to move it.
“Doctor Barrow it is a pleasure, I’m Ingrid Hunnigan, Leon’s handler.”
“Hi…sorry feels weird you guys know me but I don’t know you.”
“It’s ok. On the creepy scale for this line of work, that’s going to be the most reasonable.” Ingrid was typing, “Feel free to read what’s there, I’m just updating maps, checking the forecast, generally spinning many many plates.”
“Anything important for us to know?”
“Security is tight– after you get into that Director’s Office you were toying around with, if you trip something there’s going to be a large scale lockdown and the only way you’ll get through is with biologics– retinas or fingerprints.”
“This didn’t constitute large scale security? That’s a shame.” Cait looked to Leon to see if he could hear Ingrid and he shrugged.
“There’s always C4 if we make a mistake and get to a big door we can’t open.”
“If you can find some? Sure.” Ingrid confirmed, “I have a better schematic now, this is great. Leon– you see it?”
Leon’s phone was blinking with a map getting uploaded and he started studying that, “Well, the monorail is underground but they only have a handful of access points and one of them we blew up already….”
Cait, meanwhile, got the medical files, “Uh, Ingrid was it?”
“Yes ma’am?”
“Are there other files? I see redactions in these. Lots of redactions.”
“There’s an override key only available in the director’s office, I need to get in through his computer to use it.”
Cait nodded, “I want to see what they don’t want me to see.”
“I understand that…is what you can see there better than before?”
“Yeah…yeah definitely.” Cait was furiously typing, “They took my tech-parasite implant. Now I had it modified for baselines measurements, the idea being we would measure everyone before implantation and then program a bug for them and it would maintain baseline. I was talking about implanting in healthy people and then remotely monitoring.”
“Let me guess– they did it different?”
“They made two master parasites and then modified betas. The thing about the betas is that they share commands? So you can disrupt the betas by disrupting the master.” Cait looked over at Leon, “Those horrible dog things without the eyes–”
“Lickers?”
“You call them lickers?”
“It’s better than horrible eyeless dog–”
“Ok, the lickers– you saw them listen to Greg at first, right? What if…what if they were synced to one of the masters?”
“Not him, obviously. Or they wouldn’t have attacked him at all. Plus we saw two sleeping in Raul’s room…my money’s on him.”
“Yeah but what if…there are two?”
“They made two…but did they use two, do you mean?”
“We should certainly figure it and I don’t see any notes—” Cait was typing furiously, “I do see that Greg made a ton of modifications integrating the T virus and the G virus, with attention to enhanced abilities. They heal? Are there ones that heal?”
Leon’s head bobbled side to side, “There’s bullet sponges and there’s regenerators, we have a bit of both. Depends on what he found, what he sampled. They can take a lot of damage. I don’t know the finer points of which virus makes them do what. I know some of them are…real bastards to take down. And a lot of them? They regenerate bigger than before.”
“That’s….” Cait pinched the bridge of her nose, “I guess explains a lot of what I saw in Greg. Regeneration via replacement. Enhancement via enlargement. It’s like using a virus with a thesaurus leading the outcomes, maybe you get what you ask for but maybe you don’t.”
A red light started blinking on the cameras and Cait handed Leon back his comm, “Ing?”
“Leon? You’ve got company coming…”
The security cameras showed something bad– lickers running up stairwells and the vibrations of something big and heavy coming up a hill outside and hammering on the main door growling, “CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIT…..FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFIXXXXXXXXXX.”
“Fuck, Greg.” Cait sighed and shook her head, “Don’t make me feel bad for you, you shithead. Nobody asked you to do any of this.” She rubbed her temples, “But fuck. Nobody should get to live like that.”
“Nope. It’s why we put them out of their misery.” Leon took his Magnum out, “Now Ingrid, we need a key. Where is one?”
“There’s a safe in the coat closet.”
Leon opened the closet and saw it, “You got a code?”
“Uh…hang on, let me look—”
Leon eyed the security cameras and heard the screeching of the lickers, “You know, let me try—” He put the magnum away, took out the shotgun, and blew the dial clean off. “Hey Ingrid, I guessed right!”
The lickers were still screaming and he took the fish-shaped key from the safe and put it in his pocket, reached out and took Cait’s arm, pulling her from the computer, “Time to go…”

The fish shaped key went into the door and as it did it spit back out the director’s card. Leon eyed it, then handed it to Cait, “The override for your documents, I assume.”
“Thank you.” She kept by his left arm and took out her bat, her hands nervously flexing on it, the card was clumsy in her hands as a result but she wouldn’t let either go.
The doors revealed a positively lavish office. Huge vaulted ceilings, a whole wall of mirrors that she shook her head at, “Observation mirrors….”
Leon was tempted to shoot one out but thought better of it, “This guy gets weirder and weirder…”
Cait sucked in a breath as she saw the computer on a large desk at the far end of an otherwise suspiciously empty room.
She didn’t get a chance to run to it.
The speakers cracked and someone sighed, “Mr. Kennedy.”
Leon looked around, gun out, “Can I help you?”
“I suppose it isn’t worth my time to ask you to leave us to our business, but I hope you understand that I can’t simply let you interfere like this. I already lost one scientist to the parasite and his work was shoddy, I can’t lose someone who could get us back on schedule.”
“FUCK OFF!” Cait shouted at the ceiling, bat clutched in her hands and Leon nodded to her.
“Lady said no, and no means no. So we’re going to get going. You want to surrender yourself and come with?”
The voice laughed and from a panel in the wall, next to the wall of mirrors, emerged the man in the white suit. Leon’s grip on his gun tightened and he shifted so he was standing between Cait and the man who’d kidnapped her, “Raul Alvarez. Think we just met your mother.”
His eyes narrowed at Leon, “That was unnecessary. Given time we could have fixed the error in the code.”
“Don’t worry– I fixed it.” Leon unholstered his Magnum, waving it Raul.
Cait was shaking her head behind him and that interested Raul more. He smiled widely, “Dr. Barrow – apologies for meeting this way. I got the initial impression from your former associate that you wouldn’t be particularly interested in helping. I got many impressions from him, many of which I now understand are pale imitations of your work.”
Cait bristled, stood up straighter.
Raul continued on, “He lacked your vision– he was too focused on himself. Confidence is, of course, attractive in partners, but Gregori disappointed me. He was arrogant, selfish. In the end he was more about himself than our great purpose. The ego of some men knows no reason. I saw this with my father– convinced he would see the betrayal of the others in Umbrella coming, but he was still killed by them anyway. He knew something of its inevitability at least– it’s why he left this to me, to my mother. He wanted us to make the corporations pay for their pride, for their lack of respect. His work could have changed the world and everyone always wanted to take it for themselves.”
“That’s what you’re doing!” Cait snipped, hands on her bat and trying to keep it up but she was shaking.
Raul tutted, clicking his tongue against his teeth, “You’re not hearing me correctly. You are a genius. Truly. The work you did? The plans you laid? You might’ve been a founder of Umbrella, and what happened to you? Unable to get into labs, unable to get grants, unable to find a home because nobody can ever know what you made? It’s wrong. Someone with your talent shouldn’t hide and starve. Greg took your fame from you, he took your place, and you can have it back. Just come with me. In Cuba you will see the full glory of our larger facility. You could lead us into a new era of freedom, of science, of superiority. You could fix all the problems you once so desperately wanted to fix.”
“You’re psychotic.” She whispered.
Raul smiled and it was vicious, but he started walking around the room, closer and closer to Leon and Cait, and as he did he recited something:
“We have taken for granted that diseases can control our lives and kill our loved ones. Many people accept their diagnoses with the same resolution as an execution, but without the speed of one. It is the goal of this hypothesis to test if the body can be programmed to increase its natural resilience and heal in the face of such devastation, and usher in a new age of medical care where we do not use the word–”
“Terminal.” She finished, and looked at Leon, “I…I wrote that. It was my proposal for my research. The hypothesis I was testing.”
“You are a giant among ants. I can give you all the ability to make your proposal a reality.”
He was stepping closer and in response Cait withdrew behind Leon, making him a wall between her and Raul, and it made Leon raise his gun even with Raul’s chest, “Cait? You want to go with him?”
“No.”
Leon cocked the gun, “There’s your answer, bud. Now get on your knees and put your hands behind your head.”
Raul chuckled, “Adorable. I admire your determination, Mr. Kennedy, but unfortunately I have a schedule to keep.”
Raul turned his back on Leon and the emerging body of a mechanized parasite was obvious on the back of his neck.
He raised his hands as though about to put them on the back of his head but instead waved them in a ‘come here’ way and as he did the glass in front of him shattered as four lickers jumped through it. The room behind the glass was a massive lab– a playground of a lab where Raul had all the space, all the toys…and all the subjects he wanted. Inside the room where a dozen of the zombies all waking from some manner of slumber and lurching towards the opening.

Not Beta Read. We edit 6 months later at 2am.
Resident Evil regulars, I'm new here! I don't know your tags well, help a girl out and RB please. I see several RE communities but have no idea who takes fanfiction-- help a girl out.
So I updated with speed like I was being stalked by Mr. X and have done nearly 100k on Leon in a month. I don't know. There are other stories on the Leon Masterlist (it's linked up top)
First, Do No Harm (complete) Leon x Reader (slowburn, wife)
Safe Haven: Leon finds a baby on a job and someone's gotta raise it (also an x reader)

Migraines have kept me away for a bit, but now I am going to be catching up on my stories!
I am ready to start mashing buttons to get Leon and Cait to run as fast as humanly possible. I love that in the games it often feels like Leon is a monster magnet, but in your DLC this is now quite literally true.
Initially it seems like Raul doesn't have any side effects from his las plagas-like master parasite, but it'll be interesting to see if that holds up. Clearly he has a lot of confidence in his technology and it hasn't blown up in his face like it did for Grigori (side note: get bent again, Grigori, you research-stealing asshole), but the fact that he's somewhat desperate for Cait to join him implies there may be...flaws in the process. He is perhaps not quite as stupid/desperate as Grigori was (is?), but hubris always gets you in the end.
The casual neck touch! Such a good little moment to toss in to show how close they are getting (physically and emotionally) in spite of (because of) the situation. And I do like that even though there is this little moment, I don't think that's the reason Leon puts himself in between her and Raul. It's not possessive; it's just Leon being Leon.
This show y'all, it's as if someone read my dream journal for how to make the perfect horror/mystery show. Comedy is 10/10, spookies 10/10, Matthew Rhys' facial expressions, 10289230/10 🏝
