Took a little bit of work, but we're back on track with the cloak. Past me was smart and had planned the front so there were two slots for the arms that I promptly forgot about. Little seam ripping and the pattern is back on track.
Got the top layers done, so now it's just getting all those beading/sequin sections done. The large sequins are getting both e6000 and handwriting, just to make sure they stay where they're supposed to.

Next embroidery piece is starting to take shape (going from inspired by a Betta fish to a full on Betta fish). Planning it in golds,reds, and brass colors. Still working out which stitches I want where, but was able to get the design on the frame and get the padded sections on.
Summer initially starts out busy for me, teaching sewing summer camp. But I have a couple weeks of break in July to get going on both this and finish my mushroom cosplay. As to what's next? I haven't thought about it ๐
Starting in on the largest part of the cape and... have a decision to make. I can either have the squares align in a perfect grid and not have the same angle in the front(bugs me). Or I can chevron the back so they align in the front (also looks ugly AND don't like the ridge the thick trim makes.
I basted in the perfect grid for now, might play with pleating/gathers/ease at the top to get the fronts aligned on angle, but that will only be finalized after all the beading.
And no, I'm not looking for help. I know that due to the nature of the pattern/drape, plus the front pieces have arm slits, I'm gonna have to sacrifice one of the things I want when I commit.
But I can at least start on the half I like with the long process of hand beading each sequin and their surroundings.

Slowly progressing on hannah_alexander_artwork Fly Agaric. The cape has so many layers and I'm enjoying going slow with handwork. It'll be a bit before I finish blanket stitching the beaded edge and sequins, and then I'll have to work on the checkered lower cape and collar.
Then I can think about *gestures vaguely to the rest of the cosplay*. My current strategy for coping with burnout is not thinking too far ahead and just crafting one thing at a time.

Having someone ask ChatGPT in a meeting is like being a grown-ass professional adult in a room full of other grown-ass professional adults trying to solve a problem, while a colleague with one of those baby toys that makes animal sounds repeatedly presses the cow button. And we all have to stop what we're doing and listen to cow go moo and say "wow hm yeah that's not really what we're asking but the cow does definitely go moo, good thoughts"
I'm still hanging in there, even if it's been very rough lately. First the absolute crunch of the end of the semester and getting grades in, then our 15 year old Papillon Kenny passed away. Depression has been sapping most of my motivation, which is why my progress for cosplay has screeched to a halt.
But I have been slowly and steadily getting my mushroom cape done. The work is repetitive and tedious, which my brain likes to use to shut off. It'll be long stretches between updates, but one of the layers is at least at a stage where it looks like something.
I'm just.... taking it easy on myself at this point and trying to find my whimsy to get through the day.
Still on Hiatus as we're in the mad dash until the end of the semester (and I get through a mountain of grading). But figured a little throwback to my year of the tiger.
All that hand done silk embroidery took forever, but I was so happy with it, even if the costume wasn't well known or popular. I still love the design and the feel of it, maybe I might have to dive back into Sugar Girls again for another design in the future?

Resting and recovering from the travel, but wanted to give a quick shoutout to @ozconwp
I had an amazing time this past weekend at my first ever time in Missori. It was a smaller event, but honestly one of the most welcome I've felt as a guest. The staff were so nice and really made me feel welcome (the giant gift basket had me floored, y'all don't do things in half measure). The kindness I was shown will stick with me for ever.
It was also super great to teach and talk with the attendees. While large cons are nice, I love events like this where I get to have meaningful one on one conversations with folks. Everyone brought it to the contest too, and definitely made it difficult for us to choose!
Thank you again for the truly great time! โค๏ธ
(Also bonus creepy gopher who was entertaining the crowd while we setup for the contest)

New costume?
It'll be a few weeks before I can really dive into this one, but broke ground on a mushroom cosplay (Fly Agaric) for our Magfest @hannah_alexander_artwork group.
I'm mostly focused on the cape, going to be doing lots of embroidery and beading over the next few weeks. Well, after finals are over and my grades are all in :)
