PERIOD DRAMA APPRECIATION WEEK 2022 ↳ day 4 - favorite film: EMMA. (2020) dir. Autumn De Wilde
“I cannot make speeches, Emma…If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. But you know what I am. You hear nothing but truth from me. I have blamed you, and lectured you, and you have borne it as no other woman in England would have borne it.”
It is finished :’)

Feyre Archeron, dressed in the clothes of the Night Court (or my depiction of them anyway).
I really love the Persephone/Hades connection to acomaf and wanted to channel that Persephone vibe in my design of Feyre. I am considering doing a companion piece to this of either Aelin or Feyre in more queenly garb (what would you prefer?).

THE LESSON OF WUTHERING HEIGHTS, OF GREEK TRAGEDY, AND ULTIMATELY, OF ALL RELIGIONS, IS THAT THERE IS AN INSTINCTIVE TENDENCY TOWARDS DIVINE INTOXICATION WHICH THE RATIONAL WORLD OF CALCULATION CANNOT BEAR.* IF YOURE LISTENING!! IF YOU EVEN CARE!!!!

#this whole scene really encapsulates peak idiot energy #frank lumbering out of the room because he essentially doesn’t want to be there #knightley actively ushering him out the door because he doesn’t want frank near emma #but he is okay to leave as long as frank is too #emma calling them back because she thinks harriet wants frank there #when actually harriet wants knightley to stay #george and frank running back in like a pair of idiots #knightley looking so bloody eager about being called back #harriet lying there the entire time thinking her bff has just endorsed her liking her crush #absolutely no one is using any braincell #except maybe frank but only because he isn’t invested in any of this nonsense lol (tags via @cartoon-heart)

jane austen’s emma woodhouse in emma (2020)
#this quote is so important!!#so many people dislike emma because they find emma unlikeable#but that is the point!!#she isn’t meant to be some perfect creature#so many austen heroines have very mild flaws#whereas emma has big glaring ones#but the whole driving narrative is how she grows from her mistakes and learns from them#and that deep down she has a good heart and wants to be kind#her journey is what matters (@cartoon-heart)
#tfw you are a nice guy™ with your girl’s friend (and you accidentally make her fall in love with you) EMMA. 2020 dir. Autumn de Wilde
How Harriet could ever have had the presumption to raise her thoughts to Mr. Knightley! - How she could dare to fancy herself the chosen of such a man till actually assured of it! - But Harriet was less humble, had fewer scruples than formerly. - Her inferiority, whether of mind or situation, seemed little felt. - She had seemed more sensible of Mr. Elton’s being to stoop in marrying her, than she now seemed of Mr. Knightley’s. - Alas! was not that her own doing too? Who had been at pains to give Harriet notions of self-consequence but herself? - Who but herself had taught her, that she was to elevate herself if possible, and that her claims were great to a high worldly establishment? - If Harriet, from being humble, were grown vain, it was her doing too. - Jane Austen, “Emma”
#endless comedy#tbh it is a wonder that half of highbury is not in love with mr knightley#after all he is - like emma - handsome clever and rich#there is no downside apart from the fact that he’s in love with his friend#but honestly i like to think there is subculture of girls around highbury who crush and fawn over mr knightley whenever he goes by but he n#he’s just nice to everyone#and tbh it was kind of inevitable that harriet would end up in love with him - because emma has moulded her friend to value what she values#and so when harriet falls for knightley she is only subconsciously copying emma’s admiration for him#i also find it hilarious that mr ‘i don’t like dancing’ knightley dances two whole times in his life and has two women fall in love with hi#the guy has SKILLS (@cartoon-heart)
Mr. Knightley representing the audience every time Emma opens her mouth to try and making Elton any degree of attractive. XD
“Upon my word, Emma, to hear you abusing the reason you have, is almost enough to make me think so too. Better be without sense than misapply it as you do.”
