haven't seen Obsession yet so im lowk larping but im thinking about obsession au (kinda but not exactly) with Caleb...
You have a crush on Caleb. It's hard not to; he would be anyone's dream man. But the problem is, you doubt he sees you anything more than a friend.
"I don't know, Tara," you're ranting one night curled in bed, after Caleb looked particularly heartbreakingly handsome when you hung out with him. "I just wish there was something I could do before I made the first move. Like, manifesting, or one of those Tiktok love spells with candles. Just to give me some courage."
"Oh, I know," she squeals on the other end. "I actually got hired after getting a One Wish Willow. I just made a wish beforehand, snapped it, and I was so confident during my interview, they hired me on the spot!"
You falter. "I don't know. Wishing for him to like me back? Feels kinda pathetic..."
You find yourself clutching the One Wish Willow between trembling hands. Normally, you never try messing around with any witchcraft that you didn't understand. You're way too superstitious to.
But you're desperate. And if you have to wish for something, like a child blowing out a birthday cake, so be it.
"Make a wish and snap me," you murmur as you read it, brushing a thumb over the sketchy looking logo. You keep your voice down as you're in a restaurant, waiting on Caleb to show up so you can have dinner together. The thought of anyone nearby hearing you wish for something so childishly would be embarrassing.
"I wish Caleb would be head over heels for me," you sigh longingly, sweaty palms engulfing the object. A hand on your shoulder makes you jump, and your already-clenched fists squeeze harder in the shock.
"Caleb," you exhale, flush on your cheeks, looking back at him from where he snuck up behind you. Your heart pounds so fast it hurts. Did he hear you?
But he just says nothing about it and sits down. "Did I scare you, pips? Whoops," he's grinning like normal, and you can't help but smile back.
His eyes are tracking your every movement.
You don't know if you're delusional or this is some insane luck, because it feels like the wish worked. When he's walking you out of the restaurant, he does something unexpected: kisses you on the lips and asks you to be his girlfriend.
You say yes. The shattered pieces of the One Wish Willow are still fisted in your palms and you toss them into your purse when you get home.
Dating him is like the dream you thought it would be. Caleb dotes on you and is more attentive than ever. It's like you're the sole center of his attention.
But like every dream, it must come to an end.
It's like Caleb gets obsessed. He wants to hang out with you every day, blowing up your phone. He starts tracking your location, and you swear you see him out of the corner of your eye while you're out with your friends, just watching. When you start pulling back, it all comes to a climax when he waits outside of your work one day, waiting beside your car just to babble nonsense about how much he misses you and you can't leave him and he's just so in love with you-
You wrack your brain to why things are going south so quick. And then you remember.
Alone in your apartment, you're digging through your purse, frantically praying you haven't thrown it away. You find it, a crumbled tacky mess, undeniably snapped clean in half. You call the number anyway, curling up in bed for comfort.
"Hello," you breathe to a bored customer service representative. "Yes, I want to undo my wish for my One Wish Willow. Please."
"Um, sorry, we don't really do returns if the merchandise has been damaged," the employee drawls, keys typing lazily on the line.
"No- not like a return, you can keep the money! Just- undo my wish. Please."
There's a pause. Then, "lady, we're just a children's toy company. It's not like we guarantee magic to be real or anything. It's on the fine print."
You blanch at his dismissive tone, trembling fingers smoothing out the wrapping. One Wish Willow is for recreational purposes only and does not guarantee any spiritual practice nor guidance.
"No, that's not true," you stress, panic growing by the second. "I-it worked for me, and now I'm stuck with something and I'm really scared."
There's another sigh on the end, staticky and resigned in a way that tells you you're making no progress. "If you feel like you're in danger, please call 911 to assist you. Have a nice night."
You gasp as the call ends, digging your fingers into your scalp. This doesn't make sense. All you wished for was for him to be in love with you. Not...not this.
"Tara," you cry when she picks up the phone, the only other person you can think of calling. "L-listen, I wished for Caleb to like me, and now he's gone crazy. He's not leaving me alone. Please, you've got to help me reverse this wish."
"Woah, is this some kind of prank?" She laughs, the sound light and unbothered. "Wait, does this mean you're finally dating him now? You should've told me sooner!"
"It's not a joke," you practically shriek, raw and hysteric. "He keeps finding me and he's so clingy but it's not in a normal way. This stupid wish thing caused it."
Tara speaks to you like she's speaking to a wounded animal, realizing the gravity of the situation. "Hey, you know that wish wasn't...real, right?"
"But it got you that job." You whisper, hand trembling now. There's a creak of floorboards just in the hallway outside.
"Yeah, because it was like a placebo effect. It made me think I could get the job, so I got the job!"
The door to your bedroom swings open so slowly and silently that it's almost casual. A figure is growing in the corner of your eye, moving steadily closer. You don't look, wide eyes trained on the floor. Your breathing is shallow.
"The wishes don't actually do anything...hello? Are you still there?"
A pair of shoes appears in your vision, sleek against your fuzzy carpet. You don't look up.
"Oh, honey. You don't think something as silly as a wish made me this way, right?"
His voice, sugar sweet, almost lulls you to look up. You don't. His hand cups your chin and tilts your gaze upwards anyways.
Caleb grins down at you, eyes glazed. "It wasn't your doing. I've always been like this."
