Descendants has a lot of plotholes, especially with the new movies, but my favorite one is the very foundation of the story.
Why did Ben choose the Core 4?
Mal, Evie, and Jay make sense. Their parents had significant impacts on kingdoms/states throughout Auradon, so the decree to bring them over and bring peace would have a large impact on their home kingdoms. If it were just them, I could wave my hand and call it a big coincidence that they're all friends, or say it's because of their parent's villain status.
But what about CARLOS? His mother was a business woman fond of polka-dotted fur. Her villainy only impacted one litter of dogs and their owners. Unless talking animals got a say (which I doubt, Ben didn't seem to consult anyone about his decision) Cruella is not relevant enough for her kid to be on Ben's radar.
If Auradon knew anything about the youth on the Isle, they'd know about the major gangs, like Uma's pirates and Mal's gang.
However, it seems Ben knows NOTHING about life on the Isle, as proven by his actions in Chillin Like a Villain. Besides, if the general public knew about the treatment of kids on the Isle, I imagine there would be a lot of public backlash.
The only reasons I can come up with are that Ben somehow knew about their connection or that Cruella was much more impactful in Auradon than she was in her movie.
Personally, I think it'd be fun if Ben had a dream abt them or something and knew subconsciously they had to come over together.
