Idk if you speak Kouri-Vini or any other creole french, but i hope that what i wrote so far works and is well written. Im just using 2 pdf krĂŠyol book found on the web and google for the dialogues, which definitly have a lot of risk for mistakes. Im also using quĂŠbĂŠcois to see if it feels right since both of these dialogues are built on old french.
Anyway, I did this dumb thing. While i search for words for dialogues, i discovers some similarities between the 2 creole and it warms up my little heart.

jake english is such a fascinating character. heâs a shrinking coward who refuses to deal with any level of confrontation, even if that level of confrontation is as little as a disagreement or âIâm not comfortable right nowâ because heâs terrified of upsetting people. but he also has a deeply selfish side of him, which is part and parcel with being a coward. jake âdoesnât want to upset anybody,â but itâs only partially out of concern for their feelings. part of it is because he doesnât want to have to deal with it. he doesnât want to own up to his own flaws. he doesnât want to have to admit to wrongdoing or cowardice.
jake doesnât know how to reconcile his selfishness â which isnât exactly the core of his character, but itâs a factor â with his desire to help people, his desire to be liked and have friends. he doesnât know how to get what he wants and also not upset people, so he takes the path of less resistance in quiet hopes that heâll get what he wants anyway. he hopes jane quietly lets her crush on him drop, because he doesnât want to be with her. he hopes roxy has let her feelings for him (which he also knows about) go, because heâs scared of how they complicate things between them. he hopes accepting dirkâs advances will lead to a relationship thatâs best for both of them without much work on his part.Â
selfishness has a lot of forms. not every kind of selfishness is outright manipulation and abusiveness, but plenty of people are selfish in some way. they prioritize themselves over others, or refuse to listen to truths that might inconvenience them, like jane. they expect their assistance and advice to be honored and repaid and to earn them easy respect and validation, or aggressively do things their friends have asked them to quit, like roxy. they think their opinions and outlooks are the most reliable and they shouldnât have to explain themselves to other people, like dirk.
they refuse to own up to their mistakes or to say the things they really want because they donât want to be a disappointment. or they quietly hope things will work out despite them never saying their feelings, expecting everyone else to just put what they want aside and let his own dreams take the lead. like jake english.Â
I love the alphas BECAUSE theyâre such flawed, confusing, frustrating, selfish people. all of them. even jake. even jakeâs tricksterdom bow-to-everyone instinct is a form of selfishness, because itâs about making people happy for his own convenience. itâs about making people like him, not about really giving them what they want. jake wants to be loved in a selfish way. and thatâs great. thatâs part of why heâs so fascinating.
(2011)Â Homestuck as a general phenomenon was very active and developed at a swift pace from the time it was published (2009) onwards, especially in 2012-2013, including and past the first years of the Homestuck Kickstarter Project, a.k.a Hiveswap.
Between 2009 and 2012, Homestuck as a webcomic was infamous for updating daily, constantly, multiple times a day, at all hours, for years. There was a calculated average that Homestuck updated 5.5 pages per day, dropping entire bundles of updates of character interaction and plot reveals frame by frame, posted as fast as Hussie could write it. Though it wasnât immediately obvious, this pace was sleeplessly breakneck, Hussie allegedly didnât do anything but live, breathe and dream Homestuck for at least four years straight. Iâm serious when I say updates came at all hours. I would wake up 2am on a week night and idly check MSPA to see if there was a new update, sort of like a trained parrot. Then in five minutes Iâd tab back over to the Homestuck tab and refresh, just in case.Â
This lead to an phenomenon appropriately dubbed âupd8 culture,â which became the basis of the sheer evangelical furor people still associate with the Homestuck fandom. Quick history: MSPA/Problem Sleuth fans originated and migrated over from the Penny Arcade forums, Reddit, and 4chan to nestle permanently within the bowels of 2011 - 2013 tumblr, and were best described from a distance as âzealous.â Even remembering it now almost feels like recalling a distant riot. If you didnât cosplay, write up a detailed theory post, or scribble up a crazy level of appropriately detailed fanart within 10 or so minutes any given upd8, you were buried under the force of post overload and were officially late to the party. After years of this, fans had some idea of just how dedicated it came off as, which was used to further spur on fandom and made Homestuck into the most meme filled in-joke community you could possibly imagine.Â
Whatâs frustrating about describing Homestuck and Homestuck fandom is they both heavily affected each other and were both unique experiences within themselves, which makes actually trying to get across the atmosphere of the early 2010s a wordy process. Homestuck heyday updates regularly crashed tumblr servers, which became an actual fake rss way of seeing how much the plot progressed that day, which is unusual even if the tumblr servers 2011-2013 were not funded by the corporate might of Yahoo. The bigger the update, the faster the crash. I could tell you Homestuck dominated tumblr to the point it had a virulent hatedom of people who had never even read it and constantly saw it and never understood what was happening in it, and fans couldnât stop themselves from chattering about it all the time. One thing that has to be noted is all this continual bickering and movement and development and competitive content production was honestly fun as hell.Â
Besides constant updates and a continual stream of new content, the story was completely unpredictable. Game-changing plot twists continued to happen up until the very ending, and while this made Homestuckâs plot happily convoluted, for fans this meant one thing they never lacked for was barely solvable mystery. Even the (fan)artists and (fan)musicians hired to work on Homestuck had to guess what would happen next even if they were part of animating the next update. Under similar principles of an ARG, story presentation was created with the vague expectation fans would work together to explain to each other what just happened.
What this meant in conjunction with Hussieâs oddly accurate tabs on fandom theory was that when an update dropped you had to release whatever you were doing fast, or you would be outdated, wrong, inaccurate, or irrelevant at some undisclosed unspecific time, very soon. Canon and fanon directly pulled from each other, especially in the small character details. The very fact the comic spun on such accurate knowledge of fandom that was purposefully fostered between fandom and canon means that even now reading Homestuck while updating is considered an experience different from an archival read, even though Homestuck was always a self-contained story. Â
Upd8 culture followed like this: Popular fan theories had multiple fanfictions written on them just to better explain what could happen next, and fan projects from voice acting to art to music to fiction were constantly being corrected, updated, and replaced by a deluge of new information and characters to pore over every single detail with a fandom magnifying glass. An endless amount of hyper ambitious fandom projects, games, animations, multi media fanstories made in rotating teams were abandoned for new starts JUST because the information they were working off became too outdated by the newest few weeks of updates. Cosplays were mocked up in hours (for the next morning of con,) art in minutes, theory in seconds. You threw everything out as fast as you could so someone else could build off of it. It did give a strong impression of collaboration and possibility. As the fandom grew bigger and younger Hussie seemed to shade more politic in his fandom communication, but Homestuck managed to maintain an âopen channelâ like feeling between fandom and comic for a long time.Â
Innovative form encouraged innovative output. The point was to create. Another aspect feeding upd8 culture was in the way Homestuck was told. Not only were Homestuckâs detailed plot points hard to predict, but so was what would happen to the site in a meta way. A page could range from a scribble to a 3 hr fully programmed rpg or 18 minute asset heavy style swapping animation, or most commonly, sprite art followed by several hundred words of dialogue and character interaction. Pages came by different artists, different styles, different mediums, different paces and focuses, but with a breadth-spanning understanding of memes and the internet. Factors of style, innovation and novelty affected the diversity of fan output. Part of my extreme willingness to take part in Homestuck fandom was that Homestuck was so crammed to the brim with open ended creative potential, just the multiplicity of cool ideas and plot mechanics and vivid characters and weirdly novel framing that had really good ideas and existed literally nowhere else, and I say that as a huge sci-fi fan. Time travel in Homestuck was excellent. It was an ambitious story and I really do think it pulled it off. Homestuck was once described as the fossilized excrement of someoneâs personal creative experiments, and I think thatâs a good way of putting it. Enthusiasm and confusing daring teemed off the page, and translated into a wide variety of fanfiction and art, in style, content, theme, and pov.Â
Lastly, Hussie had a tendency to canonize fan content and hire fanartists and fananimators if their output was solid enough with a gentle horse kiss of approval and a naturally internet-transparent hiring process, like a forum. This was a purposely fostered atmosphere in the spirit of experimental adventure, and was just fucking nuts. Fans never wrote the story, but they did heavily influence aspects of how it was told and where it went (by design, fans were pretty much involved in making the comic) and even get to actually flesh out the details, like the main characterâs names, memes, romances, character, and scope. Everything from canon sprite art to bits of the Midnight Crew to Calibornâs character to Calliopeâs art skill to music and trickster arcs were all originally based on years of fan jokes and fandom. Homestuck was definitely Hussieâs sole property and precious baby, but he built it as interactive-ish and creatively as he could. It added an extra layer of galvanizing egging on to fandom purpose. I donât know how else to explain everything that came of it. Fandom was like a roiling morass of bullshit activity, like a breaking news bullpen 24/7, there was so much energy sparking off of all facets of fandom because it was just so fun. Fan output was borderline insane in 2010-2013.
Hussie said fandom grew exponentially at the introduction of the Trolls in Act 5 in mid 2010, but I can honestly say I think fandom really started treating Homestuck like a hidden gem worth proselytizing right after the events of [S] Cascade at the end of 2011. Before then, Homestuck was tenuously good, and had a rep on tumblr for having weirdly ubiquitous fans and over- detailed fancontent, but [S] Cascade was the moment every single gamble asked of the reader in the story actually paid off. In fact, Homestuckâs plot was generally constructed to climax at [S] Cascade, as was apparent from the big explosion of fan reaction after the fact. At this point, you would be hard pressed to find a fan that wouldnât say, âHomestuck is good.â Â

This is it. The last one! I was sitting on the Rika post since there is honestly a lot going on with her character like Saeran, and needed to mull over her classpect because of that.
Trigger warning: Mentions of verbal and sexual abuse.
Personality/General Info: She was an orphan. Her birth name was Mina, and lived in orphanage. She was close with Mika, an older orphan. Her name was changed to Serena after she was adopted by religious parents who abused her, citing that she is a demon, a dark child, who needs to be fixed. This upbringing is the source of her mental health issues, making her unstable.
Serena grows up in this household, abused by both her parents and her church's pastor, when she one day finds Mika again in a hospital. Her childhood friend is sick. Before this, Mika wanted to become a nurse and was doing community service, wanting to help people and encourages Serena to do the same.
She adopts the name 'Rika' after running away from her family for several reasons. This is because she wanted to keep her dog Sally, resolved to never abandon a creature that needs her after her encounter with Mika, who she is now convinced is dead. Determined to give it love. Her parents refuted, and when Serena tells her mom that the pastor was assaulting her, she says that he was expelling Satan out of her. Serena threatens to leave if they won't let her keep Sally, and when they did not care, she realized that only Mika truly loved her. Feeling freed from her family, she goes to the church where the pastor is and reveals in front of the congregation the truth, expressing her disgust toward everyone. Blaming everyone for Mika's death, the parents who mistreat their kids because they are 'bad', and that a God who forsakes people is bad, convinced that the only thing that could save her is the demon inside her heart. It will protect and give her love. She was kicked out of her family after this incident. Rika wandered from church to church, trying to help those in need.
Eventually she met V and started to fall in love, because she still craves it even if she thinks she doesn't deserve it. His influence nurtured her desire to help people that were harmed like she was, and they formed the RFA. However, Mika convinces Rika that her methods are not enough, that more extreme measures need to be taken. That V will abandon her because she is a child of the dark, just like her adopted parents always did. That in this world there are strong and weak people. The strong rule and the weak languish. Still, everyone deserved to be saved and loved. Thus, she implanted the idea of Mint Eye into Rika, influencing without anyone knowing.
After Mika's death, Rika begins spiraling while plans to actualize Mint Eye were underway. She becomes paranoid that V actually doesn't love her. This culminates into the large fight that results in V's eyes getting injured, and Rika disappearing in Mint Eye. V stages Rika's 'suicide' to cover for her.
Rika's sanity and morals deteriorating, she enacts the same patterns of abuse she suffered in her childhood to her believers in order to 'save' them, and does this to Saeran the most.
Role in Narrative: At first, a beloved figure that is the source for the actions of several characters. The, is revealed to be one of the main antagonists of the story in the SEs.
Active or Passive: In the past, Rika primarily lived a life to benefit others by creating the RFA and holding RFA parties. But concerning her role in the story, she is active, doing things to benefit herself.
Classpect - Lord of Heart: One who commands Heart, or commands through Heart, for themselves.
Aspect:
"Those bound to the aspect of Heart are very concerned with their favorite subject: themselves. It wouldn't be a stretch to call them 'self-obsessed', but not necessarily in a negative way. They simply want to understand the one thing we all are stuck with for our entire lives, i.e. our own minds. Forging an identity is extremely important to the Heart-bound, and every decision and action goes toward building a coherent narrative of their own story. That isn't to say Heart-bound don't care deeply for their friends and allies; they just have a tendency to assume that everyone is as concerned with identity as they are. They are excellent at putting on and taking off masks as the situation calls for them. At their best, they are competent, imaginative, and steady. At their worst they can be overbearing, inflexible, and cold."
How this fits with Rika:
As a Lord of Heart she has a way of drawing people to her, and she understands people to their core, using this understanding to command them. We see this with V, Saeran and Yoosung the most. We see this with how she attracts people to go to the RFA parties. Heart players either wonât stop talking about their emotions (cough Yoosung cough) or run the hell away from them. I think Rika falls in this category. She is extremely opinionated, and doesnât take no for an answer.Â
It strikes me that Mika says that Rika is a child of the dark while V is a child of light. In the game, the RFA members always said Rika âshinedâ. Everyone in the RFA looked up to her as a beacon, a great role model. It is as if they all followed her like the sun. But in Another Story Rika is associated with the moon (there is a CG where a silhouette of Rika is against the backdrop of the moon). V, meanwhile, is referred to as the sun by Rika when their relationship was good. This verbiage clearly came from Mika. Rikaâs past affected her perception of love inextricably. She referred to him as the sun, his love giving her warmth. But we all know that the sun can easily burn. In the SE, Saeyoung and Jaehee go to V's place and find a flashdrive. Whatever is in there shocks them. It's contents are unknown, but its implied by Saeyoung that V and Rika are in them. Add to this V's bad ending 2... the implications are there. I think if it was the case, the circumstances would be similar to the MC and V from that ending. Both Rika and V having the mindset that this is normal and healthy, but in reality could be having negative affects on their minds, and especially Rika due to her past. Vâs past isnât as perfect as Mika thought. You could see his roots as the opposite as Rikaâs; born into a wealthy family with two parents. Except, his father was strict and distant, his mother depressed and being kept away from her son, who died in a house fire. Vâs perception of love is also skewed due to this. I think that Vâs need to help Rika was him trying to make up for being unable to save his mother. Rika had difficulty accepting that help, as it has never happened to her before. She is conflicted, her low self-esteem convincing her that she doesnât deserve it. Paranoid that V isnât helping her, but trying to control her, leading to her stopping her medication. This is a big part of Heart players. their sense of self is always fluctuating. They are never certain of who they are in the beginning of their stories, and this is clear with Rika. She didn't know who her birth parents are. She took on different names, casting out fragments of her previous identity to become 'stronger'. She is the orchestrator of Mystic Messenger's plot.
Lords are the most active class possible, in contrast to how the Muse is the most passive class. As such, everything she does is selfish, mainly to benefit herself. Lords have access to the powers of all active classes in the game. So she Knows like the Mage, Manipulate like the Witch, Create like the Maid, Destroy like the Prince, Exploit/Serve like the Knight, and Steal like the Thief. This all applies to Rika as a character. She knows emotions and understands how people work. She manipulates others, as we see with all of Mint Eye. She can⌠create emotions? She does experience a lot of emotions, as we see when Sally dies, for example. She destroys emotions and souls by torturing her followers and getting them to drink the elixir, indoctrinating them into the cult. When Rika established the RFA, she was resisting her role as the Lord of Heart. She truly wanted to be selfless and to help others, but due to Mika's influence and her traumas, she unfortunately perpetuated the cycle of abuse on a scale as large, if not more, than RFA.
In MM its clear that Rika is meant to be a cautionary tale on what happens when people don't get the help they need. Of flawed systems (the foster system, the church, mental health institutions) and how they betray the people they are meant to protect. How rigid world views could corrupt a person's mind, even when they have good intentions. Rika's world view instilled in her of the world being composed of the strong and the weak, purity and sin, light and dark, the sun and moon, is in conflict with the world she truly desired. A world of kindness, compassion, equality, and unconditional love. She truly thought that world was not possible, and achieving it (much like her recovery) is cruel. It is cruel to give a 'weak' person hope for a better world. She, she sought to thrive in her darkness, that it held the answers to self-actualization. That darkness should be embraced, and wanted her friends in the RFA accept their darkness. That this is the only way to be free.
Then comes in the MC.
Every time you play a route in Mystic Messenger, you prove this wrong. That with love, genuine, unfaltering, love is the true key to growth. Yoosung, Zen, Jaehee, Jumin, Saeyoung all self-actualize in their routes due to their love of MC. A person who sought to understand them, embraced their light and darkness, and would remain by their side as an equal. Balance between these parts is needed. Humans are complicated creatures, and filing them away in rigid boxes will not save anyone. It will only fill you with shame. The addition of the V and Saeran route expands on this. V comes to terms with his flaws, mistakes, instead of running away. Confronts the messiness of the relationship he had with Rika and accepts it. Saeran, who has been subject to Rika's worldview, enmeshed to such a degree that he is turned out for the worst, is given a chance to take another path. A way to escape the cycle. To see the world through love and compassion.
Rika in the secret endings was destroyed upon V's death. It broke through to her, made her realize there was nothing more important in this world than love. Losing her sun, a man she worshiped, sent her into a catatonic state. Despite their breakup, one that is symbolic as Rika threw acid at him, burned him, and took away his sight (like staring into the sun), she could not snuff out the love she had for him. Both V and Rika where toxic to each other, a mix that prevented both parties from growing, pressing each other's wounds, resulting in both unhealthily putting the other on a pedestal. This is the ultimate escalation to such a relationship. Now, Rika lives on, mute, made to live abroad in Alaska, a cold place. The only word she is able to utter is "Sun". It is a tragic end that contrasts with the MC and Saeyoung, who will continue to move forward while she remains in status, her sense of self completely destroyed.
In Homestuck, there is a character named Lord English who is the Lord of Time. He is essentially the final boss and orchestrator of the story. His influence and power was immense, but in the end, all he became was the story he created. He was trapped in it. Couldn't become anything more, and that is the same fate for Rika.
This is the final Mystic Messenger classpecting post. For anyone who read this far, thank you! This took a long time to post because Rika is such a complicated character. Even now, there is more I want to say and connect with all the different aspects of the Lord, but I feel like this post is long enough. Her story also covers sensitive topics, and I had difficulty grappling with them in a delicate manner. I truly hope I did well.
