"Though I should warn you, eternity is a long time to share a library with someone. You may find yourself revising the terms." He glanced meaningfully at the bookshelves across the room, then back at her. "My opinions about shelving organization have been reviewed as āmadness-inducingā and āutterly repellentā by some of the finest minds in Waterdeep."
"Gale." She fixed him with a look of pure, fond suffering. "I have lived with your library for three years. I once found a manuscript titled āHow to Create A Personal SigilāĀ filed underĀ CĀ forĀ 'Curses'Ā rather than under the author's name, the title, or any organizational principle recognized by any institution in FaerĆ»n."

The Price of a Sunset: The first-born. I wasn't sure if I was going to be a good parent (aka writer of fics), but I jumped in anyway to assuage the pain of losing a job I loved and to ensure I continued to practice and hone my craft well away from AI and its little tendrils creeping their way into everything. I made a lot of mistakes and there are many things I'd do differently, but I'm still proud of how it turned out, and I can never seem to fully quit Alyss and Gale - they are my OTP.
The Worldweaver: My middle child. It's not the type of fic most want to read, but it was important to me to let Alyss and Gale start their true story and earn their ending as legends, adventurers, and true loves. It was also important to me to give Gale closure from Mystra without forcing him to give up the status he had fairly earned and would likely need to survive a life with Alyss. Also, I just wanted to write it and I had fun doing it.
To Err Divine: My rebellious child. The one that I didn't exactly choose to bear, so much as it insisted on being born. Much more high-maintenance than its older siblings and raising it to maturity is going to take much longer than I anticipated. I can't help but love it, even when it's giving me a great deal of trouble, and especially when it's bringing me down with its high level of angst and an extremely long stretch of darkness in the middle.
Further Research Required: My youngest child and the one that brings me joy when life with its older sibling grows emotional and dark. If To Err Divine is my emo adolescent, this one is my sunny little toddler that's always up for a little bit of fun, and maybe a tiny bit of mischief.

Gale and Alyss got married and they're spending their honeymoon in Candlekeep. I felt in the mood for something fluffy and cozy with plenty of banter, so here we go. It's a sequel to The Price of a Sunset and The Worldweaver, but it can be read as a standalone.
The Details:
Pairing: Gale Dekarios x Alyss (Bard / Chosen of Milil)
Rating: Mature
Status: Ongoing (Updating 1-2x a month)
Read if you want: A married couple being cute and fluffy, domestic Gale, nerds nerding out, and a honeymoon that keeps getting derailed by little adventures. Inspired by Candlekeep Mysteries.
The Summary:
It has taken three years, but Gale Dekarios has convinced his beloved bard Alyss to settle down with him for good. Newly married, they set off for their honeymoon in Candlekeep with a long list of research topics and an inability to keep their hands off of each other for long. These two can't help but attract adventure wherever they go, so it doesn't take long for their studies to get derailed by the many mysteries that hide within the walls of the fortress.

Upon A Star: Series - Gale x Tav
The blorbos that inspired it are here

*On Wishes; Complete
Ever since Galeās mother had mentioned the preparations for Highharvestide, there has been a shift in his wife's demeanor that he cannot account for.
Half-elf lore bard, Chosen of Milil. Not actually a Tav (post-canon OC). Her color is midnight blue. She's always out at parties, on the stage, and on adventures, but her happy place is at home in front of the fire with a book and her wizard. She lives and breathes her violin and her compositions come to life inside your mind when you hear them. She is moonlight, magic, and nightblooming flowers. At the end of the day, she loves a glass of Cormyrian red on a balcony overlooking the sea.
Wren
High-elf storm sorceress. Tempest cleric of Mystra (until she's not). Black leather and lightning. A woman of few words - you'll know how she feels when the weather changes around you. Or when she hands you a drawing, perfectly rendered, of a moment you didn't know she saw. Likes a dark, smooth whiskey to help her cope with a life she never asked for and being surrounded by fools.
You are most fortunate, Rolan. Few catch my interest, but your letters demonstrate potential. I am willing to give you a chance. However, a warning - you must be willing to do whatever is necessary. Power is not cheap. And I'll not suffer weakness in my own student.
Wren and Gale go to Sorcerous Sundries and discover that the information Gale seeks won't be so easy to acquire. They also meet Rolan again and discover that Lorroakan seeks the Nightsong.

Almost done with the next chapter of To Err Divine, so a snippet before it's posted:
Wren kept her voice even. "You look a bit worse for wear. What happened to your face?"
"Nothing for you to worry about," Rolan retorted defensively. The words came out too quickly. Rolan's hand moved as if to touch the bruise, then dropped back to his side.
His voice caught on the last word, and Wren heard the tremor he was trying to suppress. She'd heard it before, after missions that had gone sideways. Sheād heard it in her colleagues' voices, and her own as they tried desperately to convince themselves everything was fine when it very clearly wasn't.
He's afraid, she sent to Gale. She lowered her voice. āWe are worried about it, though. Is your master the one doing this to you?ā
āIf he is,ā Gale interjected, āThatās not normal for a wizard apprenticeship, and itās not right, either. You donāt deserve to be treated this way.ā
Rolan seemed to deflate slightly, his shoulders sagging. "You're right. This is my 'apprenticeship.'" The bitterness in his voice made the word sound like a curse. "It has ⦠not been what I expected. Master Lorroakan is⦠a difficult man."
He paused, his jaw working as if he was going to say one thing, then decided to say something else instead. "He's consumed by his pursuit of the Nightsong. I haven't learnt a thing and I fear it'll stay that way."
"A lucky escape, if this is what it looks like when Lorroakan barely pays attention to you," Gale said gravely, touching his own face where Rolan's bruises were. "Whatever he's told you about his reputation, I'll tell you I've never heard of the man. In any case 'greatest wizard in Baldur's Gate' is⦠well, it's a low bar, let's leave it at that. I could help you find a better master," Gale offered.
Rolan scowled at Gale, but his frown quickly turned into a sigh. "Lia suspected it might be this way. She's a pain, but she's always right. But never mind that. Itās fine. Iām perfectly capable of taking care of myself. I always have." He shook his head, straightening and doing his best to put his professional face back on. "What can I do for you?" He asked it in a haughty tone, as if he hadn't nearly broken down just a few moments before.
I'm hoping to post tomorrow on AO3. If you haven't read yet, you can check it out here: To Err Divine

Trying my hand at writing down my headcanons for the companions starting with the males! Next batch will focus on the females.
Astarion
Flirting is second nature to Astarion, but it's also a tool sharpened by centuries of necessity. Whether he's luring prey or disarming suspicion, his every word and gesture is curated for effect.
He doesn't ask if you're interested, he assumes you are.
His confidence is intoxicating, deliberate, overwhelming. He doesn't give you space to not want him.
āYouāve been watching me, havenāt you? Donāt bother denying it ā Iād recognize that kind of hunger anywhere.ā
But behind that ease is calculation. Every flirtatious word is a chess move. He wants to know what makes you squirm, fluster, melt. You are both a puzzle and plaything.
He rarely flirts directly. Instead, he laces his every comment with insinuation, elegance, and a touch of threat just enough to leave you off balance.
Elegant insults wrapped in compliments:
āYouāre clever. Not clever enough to hide your tells, but clever. Itās adorable, really.ā
Carnal metaphors twisted with menace:
āThereās something exquisite about restraint, isnāt there? The way anticipation lingers on the tongue. Almost⦠painful. But then ā release is so much sweeter.ā
Astarion touches to control the room. To control you. Heāll invade your personal space like a whisper at the nape of your neck ā there, then gone, leaving heat and confusion behind.
He doesnāt hold hands. He trails fingers across knuckles.
He doesnāt kiss, he hovers close, lets you ache for it, and then smirks when you do.
āCareful. Lean in any closer, and Iāll have to assume youāre offering something.ā
Flirting is his mask. He uses it to avoid intimacy, even while pretending to offer it.
When he flirts with strangers, it's a dance of masks. Heās dazzling, merciless, intoxicating.
When he flirts with someone he actually likes, it becomes more dangerous for him. The flirtation falters, just slightly ā too honest, too slow to deflect.
āDonāt look at me like that. Iām not⦠Iām not some tragic thing you can fix. Iām far more interesting than that.ā
And yet, the plea hides beneath the jest.
If someone earns his trust (which is rare), his flirtation starts to change. It's less about dominance and more about connection but heāll never admit it outright.
He might say:
āI suppose Iāve grown used to your company. Annoyingly so. There, are you happy? Thatās practically a declaration of love from me.ā
But heāll mean:
Donāt leave.
Gale
Gale doesnāt flirt so much as he courts ā with words. Lots of them. He offers compliments as if heās reciting from a sonnet he wrote in your honor, then revises it mid-sentence because technically, thereās a better metaphor.
Heās the kind to start a sentence with "Forgive the boldness, butā¦" and then say something bold anyway.
āForgive the boldness, but when you smile like that, it puts the sunrise to shame. Not in hue, mind you, but in how it warms the world around it.ā
Heās not afraid of sincerity. In fact, itās his default setting.
He gives affection like he's offering a gift ā open-palmed, hopeful, slightly nervous.
Galeās compliments are poetic, precise, and occasionally too much. He speaks like heās writing you into an epic poem, and sometimes heās aware of how ridiculous he sounds but he leans into it anyway.
Youāre not just beautiful ā youāre āresplendent,ā āarresting,ā āa living stanza.ā
āThereās a rhythm to you, you know. A cadence I canāt quite match, but I find myself wanting to try.ā
He loves analogies. Everything is a metaphor. Youāre the flame to his magic, the gravity to his orbit, the comma in his sentence.
Unlike Astarion, who touches to test, Gale touches to reassure. His hand lingers a second longer than necessary, as if memorizing the moment.
He brushes hair from your face not to seduce but because itās in the way, and you deserve to be seen clearly.
āThere. Much better. Your face deserves an unobstructed view of the stars.ā
His gestures are protective without being possessive ā hovering, not holding, unless you lean in first.
To Gale, being understood is the deepest intimacy. He flirts through discussion, especially if you match his curiosity.
Heās most drawn to someone who can challenge him, surprise him.
A battle of wits? Thatās foreplay.
āI had a theory about you, but every time I think Iāve unraveled the mystery, you delight in proving me wrong. Please ā donāt stop.ā
Magic is seduction. If you show interest in the arcane, youāve already claimed part of his heart.
What makes Galeās flirtation touching is how often it trips over genuine feeling. The deeper he falls, the less polished it becomes.
He second-guesses, hesitates, smiles softly in the middle of his own sentence.
āIāve lived through the ecstasy of magic and the terror of loss⦠and yet, you ā you ā somehow feel more dangerous than either.ā
And when he truly lets go:
āItās foolish, perhaps, how much I wish to be someone worthy of the way you look at me.ā
Halsin
Halsin doesnāt flirt to impress or manipulate āĀ he flirts because he means it. Everything he says comes from a place of deep sincerity, laced with the calm assurance of someone who knows exactly who he is.
His gaze holds yours like a quiet forest ā no pressure, just presence.
āYou move through the world with such purpose. Itās⦠beautiful to witness.ā
He speaks plainly, but with a natural poetry ā his words arenāt practiced, theyāre felt.
āWhen I look at you, I see strength. But itās your kindness that draws me in.ā
Halsin doesnāt pile on flattery ā he notices things. Deep, subtle things. And when he speaks of them, it feels like sunlight warming you from within.
Heās observant, not performative. You might not even realize heās flirting at first ā it just sounds like honest admiration.
āYou speak gently, even when the world demands fury. Thatās a rare kind of courage.ā
He isnāt embarrassed by affection. He says what he feels, and he doesnāt play coy.
āYou make the world feel less heavy. I hope I do the same for you.ā
Halsinās touch is deliberate, comforting, and patient. He touches with permission, not presumption. But when he does touch ā itās undeniably intimate, as if saying, Iām here. I will not break you.
He places a hand over yours when you're tense. Holds your gaze, anchoring you.
āBreathe. You donāt need to carry this alone.ā
And when desire simmers beneath the surface, itās elemental ā not rushed, not performative, but felt in his closeness, his stillness.
āIf I touch you, it will be with all that I am. Say the word.ā
Halsin doesnāt need grand declarations. He flirts by showing up ā carrying your burdens, tending your wounds, sharing the quiet.
He listens with his whole self. Even your silences are welcome with him.
āYou donāt need to fill the space with words. Iām content just being near you.ā
Heās drawn to strength, but moved by vulnerability.
And if you let him in, he will never belittle it.
āYou let me see you. That is no small gift. And I cherish it.ā
Though gentle, Halsin is not shy about attraction. When he wants you, it is unmistakable and entirely honoring.
Heās open about it, but never pushy.
āYou stir something in me I havenāt felt in years. Not just desire but hope.ā
And if you respond to his touch or words, heāll smile ā slow, unguarded.
āThen let me show you what it means to be cherished.ā
Wyll
Wyll leads with charm but itās never hollow. He knows how to wink and tip his head just right, but every line carries an undercurrent of sincerity.
He wants to make you smile. Thatās the whole goal of his flirting: to brighten, to uplift, to show you youāre worth every stolen glance.
āIf I had a coin for every time you crossed my thoughts today, Iād have enough to buy you something nice. Though⦠Iād much rather earn your smile than your silence.ā
Thereās always a touch of theatricality. He is the Blade of Frontiers, after all. But he never uses the title to elevate himself above youāonly to make you laugh.
āWould you believe the famed Blade of Frontiers was brought to his knees by a glance? Because Iām about ready to kneel.ā
Unlike Astarionās razor-sharp innuendo or Galeās encyclopedic poetry, Wyll gives tender compliments. And if you compliment him back? He flusters, adorably so.
He notices the little things, and they move him.
āYou tend to others before yourself. Thatās not something I see often and it humbles me.ā
If you flirt back, he might laugh ā low and genuine ā but youāll catch the faintest blush.
āCareful now⦠keep that up and I might forget Iām supposed to be the charming one.ā
Wyll touches sparingly but when he does, itās full of reverence. A hand to steady you, fingers brushing yours when passing something, a palm pressed over your heart after battle.
Heāll ask before crossing a boundary.
āMay I?ā (Offered hand. An honest question.) āOnly if youād like me to stay close.ā
Even his teasing has warmth:
āIf you keep looking at me like that, Iāll start thinking Iām special.ā
Wyll doesnāt just flirt with words ā he flirts through action. Standing by your side. Letting you see the cracks in the armor.
He wants to be someone you trust. And that starts by offering you his truth.
āI made mistakes. I carry them with me but Iād carry yours too, if you let me.ā
He brings you into his world, slowly and willingly. If he tells you a story from his past, it means he sees you as part of his future.
When Wyll desires you, it burns low and steady ā never rushed, never careless. Itās controlled, because he wants to earn the right to want you.
He doesnāt take. He offers.
āI wonāt ask for anything youāre not ready to give. But know this ā if you choose me, I will never leave your side.ā
And if you do choose him?
That smile ā the real one, soft and reverent ā comes to life.
āThen let me be the man who proves you were right to.ā
Rolan
Rolan is not here to charm you. In fact, he would very much like to be left alone, thank you. But thereās a twitch in his mouth when you say something clever, a pause before he looks away. Heās fighting it and thatās exactly how you know itās real.
Flirting often sounds like irritation at first. Heās too observant. Too annoyed. He notices you far more than he admits.
āYou're always putting yourself in danger. Someoneās going to have to clean up your mess. ā¦Donāt look at me like that. I didnāt say itād be me.ā
He flirts like a man sharpening a blade ā precise, deflective, and with his guard raised.
āYou keep looking at me like Iāve said something sweet. I assure you ā I havenāt.ā
(He has.)
Rolan doesnāt give you praise straight. Heāll call you reckless when he means brave. Annoying when he means magnetic. And when you catch on? Heās flustered ā genuinely.
Heās the king of āI didnāt mean it like thatā after saying something surprisingly intimate.
āYouāre⦠capable. For someone with such an irritating tendency to leap before they look.ā
If you catch him staring, heāll roll his eyes. But he wonāt deny it.
āDonāt flatter yourself. I wasnāt⦠I wasnāt admiring. I was assessing.ā
(He was admiring.)
Rolan is awkward about physical affection unless itās practical. Helping you up, catching your arm in battle, brushing past you on purpose. When he does reach out first, itās a big deal even if he pretends it isnāt.
Touches are brief, careful, and loaded with tension.
āHold still. Youāve got something on your ā here. There. Itās gone.ā
He touches like he's expecting to be rejected. When you donāt pull away, it floors him.
ā...Huh. You didnāt flinch. Thatās new.ā
Rolan connects through arguments, side glances, shared snark. He bonds with people who can keep up, challenge him, call him out and not back down.
He flirts through tension. Youāll know youāve gotten close when he actually stops snapping at you.
āYouāre not as infuriating as usual today. ā¦Donāt let it go to your head.ā
And if you tease him back? His ears go pink. Every time.
The rare moments when Rolan lets down his guard are intensely vulnerable. He wonāt wax poetic but when he says something kind, it matters. He wonāt say it unless itās true.
It slips out before he can stop it:
āYou make things⦠bearable. More than bearable, actually.ā
And when he finally stops fighting it:
āIāve spent so long pushing people away, I forgot what it feels like to want someone to stay. ā¦I want you to stay.ā
Though my next batch will focus on the females, Iām open to any scenarios you will like me to explore, so feel free to drop in a request!Ā
He did the right thing and returned the Crown of Karsus to Mystra, so why doesn't it feel like a happy ending?
Story Stats:
Pairing: Gale Dekarios x Alyss (OC Lore Bard)
Setting: Post-Canon Waterdeep
Tags: Fluff & Humor, but also a dollop of Angst, Hopeless Romantic Gale
Status: Complete! (Part 1 of a series)
Excerpt:
āI am suddenly inspired. I would like to capture that in a song if you are willing.ā She leaned forward, caught by an excitement that cracked her practiced composure. āThereās something in the story of a man who loved a goddess and lost her that Iād love to tell. If youād allow it.ā ā¦
After months of loneliness, the prospect of having regular conversations with another person about things other than work was most welcome. He tried to control the grin that threatened to take over his face, and the effort caused him to totally lose control of his verbal response. "Spend time with a beautiful woman? I think I could find some time in my schedule for that."
He paused, the words hanging in the air as he realized what he'd just said. "I mean⦠from a purely professional standpoint, of course. For the song. My academic schedule is quite malleable. Very accommodating, really. I'm sure we could work out something mutually satisfyingā¦"
His eyes widened in horror as he heard his own words. "That is to say! The arrangement for the song would be satisfying! In terms of ⦠of artistic fulfillment! Aesthetically satisfying only!"
Alyss was looking at him with amusement. āI think I am looking forward to this. We will start at the surface level. I will observe you at work. That should tell me something about you without too much disturbance of your own life. We can go deeper from there. Gradually. I will make sure to check in with you at every step of the way to make sure it is always ⦠mutually satisfying.ā
Gale's face went through several shades of red before settling on something approaching burgundy. "I⦠you⦠that'sā¦" He cleared his throat, trying desperately to regain some semblance of dignity. "Yes. Quite. Mutual satisfaction in⦠in artistic endeavors is⦠is naturally the goal of any serious collaboration."
He tugged at his collar, which suddenly felt rather tight. "And I do appreciate your methodical approach. Very thorough. Very professional." He paused, realizing he had been staring at her lips since she had said 'mutually satisfying' and quickly looked away. "I should probably mention that I am a professor now, so you will be observing lectures with students present. So the, ah, observation process will be entirely supervised.
