Do not let the antishippers find the Got or House of the Dragon fandom cause they'll cry
Or Labyrinth, or Flowers in the Attic, or any one of Stephen King's books. It's almost as if the wider public understands that fiction can be both fucked up and entertaining without the need for a moral lesson following after, or that it's an indictment that you're going to partake in the things you read about.
Antis are so far removed from reality, and they have to remain that way in order to not have their beliefs constantly challenged and torn apart.
The focus should really be on people learning how to consume a wide range of media in a healthy way, and that includes being able to process feelings of disgust, rage, and discomfort in cases where the narrative absolutely is intending you to feel that way!
It feels like we're witnessing a lot of people now grow too comfortable with what they are familiar with that they project their inability to process negative feelings on others and blame the content itself.
For instance, I am aware that I cannot handle very explicit and violent scenes of SA, and had no warning when I first watched The Flowers of War movie. I remember being so affected, I was haunted by those scenes for days. But I don't condemn the movie for existing just because it contains a subject and content that makes me uncomfortable and upset. Especially for what was a war movie.
Ugly things deserve to exist. The critical focus should be on the execution and narrative intent, and even if those end up being bad, people are allowed to make bad things! People can suck at writing! They exist!
We cannot be wishy washy when it comes to creative freedom, especially when you try to commit what is "morally good" to paper under such a subjective perspective.
Multiple things can exists at once, and in this case it's also the fact people are getting too comfortable with the thought of normalizing certain topics and not in a media literacy type of way, but more of a
"Fiction doesn't equal reality!" Or more disturbingly "So long as they only do it behind close doors and doesn't effect me I don't see the problem"
No one has any issues with horror, or disturbing media, and before anyone says anything I say this as an English literature teacher who focuses on Post war literature so you can IMAGINE the things I have to teach and share understanding with
To word as simply and crudely as possible look below
And not to demonize, but if you are watching say Lolita, and rather than understanding that this is from the POV of a predator and has layer of layers to the story, and instead ingredients IDOLIZING and making this sad story out to be sexy, chic, or god forbid, romantic, then you need to stop and question why and see if you have any further issues adding to it
And as much as people hate to acknowledge this, authors DO infact need to be watched and criticized when needed. It's incredibly easy to make CP, romantic violence, bigotry, and hate filled works, and simply slap a genre label on it and then cry "THE ANTIS A RUNING EVERYTHING AND TRYING TO CANCEL ME 😭😭😭😭"
Splatterpunk ESPECIALLY has this issue and is happening with more frequency this last few years
To simply call someone an anti without even stopping to think why and to ignore the same critical thinking you demand others to use is sad at best and bitterly pathetic most of the time
Perhaps you're not getting the point of the original post, so I'm going to back up a bit. You may not have been in fandom spaces for long enough to know that "proshipping" is a term created by antis so they could carve out an "us vs. them" space in fandom.
Proshipping was the default. "Live and let live" was the motto most fans lived by, at least when I first got into fanfiction in the 90s. This is how I (and a lot of people) define it.
Proshipping is anti-censorship. It says nothing about being unable to criticize said media. It says nothing about romanticizing, normalizing, sexualizing, etc. It only means "you shouldn't ban and persecute artists and those who consume their art."
That being said, there is nothing inherently wrong with having fantasies, no matter how dark and taboo. Thoughts are not actions. Literature will not "poison" the mind or the soul. "Getting off" on dark content is not a sin. These fears and talking points are steeped in conservative Christian values. Perhaps you are a conservative/Christian, but that has nothing to do with me, or with anyone else.
Allowing "bad" content to exist doesn't mean you can't criticize it. The problem is, many antis seem to think stalking, harassing, and doxxing someone until they disappear off social media is the socially acceptable way to criticize fellow fans and artists.
By stating proshippers don't want you to criticize or scrutinize anything, you either don't know what proshipping is, or you're moving the goalpost.
"Antis are trying to cancel me!" We aren't afraid of antis cancelling us. We're afraid of being stalked, harassed, having our workplaces called on us and accusing us of being predators, etc. (Yes, this does happen, I have real world examples of it). I don't think you realize what a toxic, unsafe environment fandom has become because of this fanatical obsession with "good behavior" when it comes to literature.
How do you define romanticize? Who gets to decide what is romanticizing and what isn't? What if you think I'm romanticizing something, while I believe I'm writing it in a non-romantic way? Who gets the final say?
"Authors need to be watched" Authors are not here to teach you moral lessons, let alone need to be watched (whatever the hell that means). If you want moral lessons, go to church. I'm not being facetious. If you want your literature to "teach right from wrong" (and I say that very generously because I'm no longer religious), then controlling authors is not the way.
"We're not against dark subjects, we're against romanticizing and getting off on it." Got it. No one is allowed to be horny from sinful fantasies.
"So long as they only do it behind close doors and doesn't effect me I don't see the problem" I'm not sure what you find wrong with this statement. What do you care what consenting adults do behind closed doors? These talking points you're coming up with are reminiscent of right-wing, historically anti-queer language. Whether intentionally or not.
"We're not against writing/exploring dark topics!" That's. That's exactly what antis are against. Because they can't agree on HOW to explore those topics "tastefully" or "correctly." They can't even agree amongst themselves what content is problematic. It's a goddamn train wreck of hypocrisy.
I know exactly why antis think they way they do. I was Mormon once. You don't get more pro-censorship, thought-policing than that. So, yes, I have years of personal history and critical thinking when it comes to considering the media I consume. Don't worry about me, I'm doing just fine.
What I worry about are young people growing up in this environment where fantasies aren't only considered sinful, they're considered harmful, and they're being told to purge them from their thoughts if they want to be a good person. I can't even begin to describe how harmful that is to children and adults alike.
Tl;dr: as someone who's been in a creative slump TWICE as a result of this, EXTREMELY harmful. Because it tells me that I'm a terrible person because because I like characters in danger, that essentially being mean to Sims negates my reaction to actual people suffering
I’ve said this multiple times on here, so some people who follow me will have heard this rant already, but:
My mom is a college professor whose special subject is media criticism and the effects of media on children. Therefore, my parents were extremely focused on moderating our media consumption. We had four TV channels and two of them were PBS. I have never in my life played a video game all the way through. I read the books my mom assigned to her students for fun (“Consuming Kids” was my favorite). My job as I got older was to screen stuff for content considered inappropriate for my younger siblings or other people’s kids. Even when we watched movies or TV or commercials, my parents would analyze them in front of us and encourage us to analyze them ourselves. What techniques are they using in this commercial to get you to buy it? What's the subtext in this scene? What message is this scene trying to convey?
So when I say that antis are Not Doing It Right, I’ve got textbooks and almost 30 years of lived experience backing me up.
There are three major problems with how antis approach media criticism.
#1: Ignoring the concept of individual analysis and multiple lenses.
A key concept in media criticism is that there is no one way to interpret a work. Certainly there's how the author might want you to interpret it, but part of communication (which is what media is) is the effect on the audience member. How I interpret a particular work is going to be influenced by my personal experiences; someone else may interpret the exact same thing differently.
And what you're specifically looking for in a work is also important. The point of analyzing something through different lenses – a queer lens, a feminist lens, a post-colonial lens, whatever – is to look at the same thing from different angles. And even then, two different people might have two different perspectives even within the same framework, looking for the same things. Consider the argument about whether specific Disney movies are feminist or not - they're looking at the same material, but coming to different conclusions based on their interpretation of it.
So you can't unequivocally say "this glorifies violence" or "this promotes misogyny" outside of very, very specific examples (I'm thinking about shit like The Turner Diaries, here). You can certainly make that as an argument, and back it up using evidence, but ultimately, that is your interpretation, not objective fact.
#2: Failing to understand what media criticism is trying to solve.
Whenever someone points out that fiction is not reality, someone always responds that it affects reality, and then will point to something like The Jaws Effect as an example of how media affects real-life things. I'm pretty sure that's what @sweetlavenderdarling is referencing.
Which: sure! I won't dispute that! The issue is failing to understand how and why media affects real-life things.
The first thing is that, barring a few exceptions, the majority of media's influence is in the aggregate. Watching one period drama with a majority-white cast is not going to make you think that all of European history only involves white people. What can make you think that the past was whites-only is if every single period drama you ever watch has an all-white or majority-white cast. Watching one action movie is not going to make you violent. What can make you violent is if the main way you see problems being handled is through violence (regardless of whether the tone is "this is a horrible thing but we have no choice" or "it's totally cool to murder people").
The second thing is that, just as we cannot claim our single opinion is objective fact, we can't claim a 1:1 cause-and-effect thing between "X is in media" and "person believes X," because different people can interpret the same thing differently. There's a difference between me watching, say, an Alex Jones broadcast vs. a longtime fan of Alex Jones listening to the same thing: I'm not going to become a conservative conspiracy theorist solely from listening to it because my perspective on it and preexisting beliefs are very different from those of than a true believer.
And we can actually see this in an example antis love to trot out: Finding Nemo. Antis love to pull out Finding Nemo as an example of people's behaviors changing (i.e. a spike in owning clownfish and blue tangs as pets) based on it being in a popular work. Here's the problem with that argument: the entire point of Finding Nemo is that keeping tropical fish as pets is a bad thing. THAT'S WHY THEY NEED TO FIND NEMO.
The scene where Nemo gets caught is treated like a human child getting dragged into a white van in front of their parents. Home aquariums are portrayed as jails where longtime residents go insane. The little girl with the braces is a terrifying eldritch murderer from the fish's perspective because she shakes them to death. Finding Nemo can't be more obvious in how it treats owning tropical fish as pets: it's not romanticized, and in fact is universally portrayed throughout the film as a very bad thing that no one should do.
And a shitload of people either didn't pick up that message or did but ignored it. Because there's no 1:1 transfer of message to audience.
#3: Failing to provide an actual solution/ignoring the next steps.
Okay, so you've identified a problematic element of a work. And you're concerned that it's going to affect your thinking or other people's thinking! Cool! Awesome! Now what?
A short list of things that you can possibly do to mitigate its effects:
Stop consuming media with content you want to avoid, using tools like content warnings. This is why movie ratings include things like "graphic violence" or "cigarette smoking" or whatever, rather than just a letter rating: it's so that adults who want to either avoid something themselves or prevent their kids from seeing can make those decisions knowingly.
Deliberately consume media with content you want to promote. This can be stuff like deliberately watching more racially diverse movies or reading books with queer protagonists; in extremes, it's why Pure Flix exists as a brand.
Diversify the media you consume. Since most media effects are aggregate, having a variety of perspectives and kinds of media can dilute those effects because you're getting multiple competing ideas.
Reduce the amount of media you're consuming, period. Do things that don't involve media consumption and don't make media consumption a background thing for other stuff, like eating or sleeping. Go for a walk without music on or spend time with friends in person without watching a movie or being on your phone at the same time.
Identify your own biases when consuming media. Everyone has a blind spot about at least one thing, and that's okay: the point is to acknowledge it. (My mom's is British media. We were never allowed to watch horror or violent action movies or stuff that was "gross" like CSI, but British murder mysteries where someone gets strangled to death onscreen? Totally okay!)
Regardless of what you're consuming, actively analyze it (ideally in real time). Not just movies or books, but billboards, ads, songs, nonfiction stuff like the news, labels, toys: anything that's meant to convey a message, you're supposed to analyze it and be aware of it. Which can lead you down interesting thought trains, like, "Why do so many 'natural' body care products have matte labels/packaging compared to more name brand ones?"
What doesn't help literally at all:
Yelling at people who enjoy the content you don't like.
Harassing people who create content you don't like.
Attempting to parent strangers, i.e. trying to control what other people create, consume, and enjoy. That is something you can do for yourself, or that you can do on behalf of your own kids, but you cannot control what other adults do.
Accusing people who create or enjoy content you don't like of being pedophiles. Literally I cannot express this point enough: unless you believe they are actively abusing actual children and have some kind of concrete evidence of it, do not just throw that shit out there. And if you do believe they are actively abusing actual children, based on some kind of concrete evidence, that's territory to report them to the feds, not yelling at them on Tumblr.
I realize that this is a very long response but I am Sick and Tired of antis pretending that their ship wars are somehow a force for moral good or completely ignoring their own biases to focus on stuff they personally don't like.
If it alright can I get hc of a teen who sees Ranpo as a big brother, always shares their snacks with him, tries to help in investigations when they can, use their ability to protect him (cuz they don’t want to see their big brother figure hurt.)
Hope you have a wonderful day/night/afternoon! ^^

The SILLIEST father EVER guys.
For actual years he was fully under the impression he HATED all kids with a passion. I mean guys look at how badly he treated Aku-
Well then he had you and things changed
It's just something about you being his kid, not a subordinate or random kid on the street
He's your dedicated apologist
In fact, he encourages your mischief!
When you were younger, it was a lot harder to handle you. He even found himself on his last fuse sometimes. Usually, he left Atsushi or Yosano to deal with you
He didn't want to revert to old habits and accidentally traumatize you :(
When he can handle himself, though, he's only halfway controlling you-
He's right along with you in the heinous activities half of the time
Hiding Ranpo's candy (for as long as it lasts), misplacing Kunikida's glasses, hell you two have probably snuck into the infirmary and changed the sheets to something very colorful and very childishly wolf themed...
He's not really a mature dad, nonono. But he's doing his best
He fully supports all of your wildest interests, even tries out some of the more entertaining ones
He struggles to act excited when you're younger and all your interests are very out of his range, but as you grow older he's actually a bit intrigued by them sometimes
Best birthday gift ideas, too. He's very creative when he wants to be.
He also has way more money than he should be ALLOWED to have
For your Sweet Sixteen, he most definitely got you an obsessively large custom pinata of your favorite character...
He makes sure EVERYBODY gets you gifts, because you are his world and thus you must be everybody else's as well
He really does try to keep you out of work, and especially away from his suicide biz
Maybe HE doesnt have a reason to live, but he certainly doesnt want you picking up those thoughts, because he knows you have a real big destiny to live up to someday
I mean, what would the world be without you?
When you hit the age of 13 though, its really hard to hide anything from you
You're so scary when you grow up! And you're way too smart!!4
Did you get that from him? oops...
Now, he doesnt have any plans of living that long, but if you do grow big and strong and smart one day, and you join the ADA, he's definitely got some favoritism.
Surprisingly, Fukuzawa actually gives you your first few proper missions with him
(Because he knows Dazai will not be letting any harm come to you, he trusts Dazai with his life and he knows you trust Dazai even more)
If you have different plans for adulthood though, he's still so supportive
If you go to uni, you're going to have to show him off
Why?
Because, guys, he's a dilf
Nobody's gonna be mean to the kid with a dilf father, they all want him
He jokes about it constantly
But rest assured, stupid and immature uni kids are NOT his type, no matter how nice the ones his age look
He's got his eyes set on that waitress and at least four other men at the moment
If you go straight into the workplace instead of uni, he's going to use his connections to get you a good job early!
Fukuzawa has a good way with words and Dazai himself is a pretty good reference contact
Just tell them he's your teacher, or something
It's not like they'll know his hobbies, he's wayyyy too big a mystery for that
Overall: 7/10 dad
A little rough around the edges, but he's trying hard to improve himself for you
And he's trying hard to give you the best life he can offer
┌──────┐
└──────┘
Did I say Dazai was a dilf?
I lied out of my ass.
Chuuya is the real dilf here
But we'll get to that later! (Just know he has plenty of men and women at his feet and they're definitely being way too nice to you because they want him so bad guys)
You're SO SO SO SO spoiled.
UNREASONABLY so
So bad you might even be a little bit of a brat growing up
It's fine, not toward him, he almost never says no to you so theres no need
There's absolutely no amount of money that can't be spent on you.
Luxury clothes, professionally cooked dinners, fancy rooms, home staff, the whole works
Despite all that though, he's insistent you go to a public/private school
He's not tutoring you, wont even hire one
It's not because he CAN'T, it's because he KNOWS how important it is for you to get your sense of independence early
Sure, you'll always have financial support, even if he dies (Trust fund babyyyyy)
But thats not what's actually important to your future
You need social skills, you need friends, you need and education and the taste of disappointment
Dont worry, though, he's not sending you unprepared
You're not eating school lunches unless you want to (but fuck why would you?)
He's sending you to school with top notch food every day
And clothes
And supplies
Plus, you'll have a tutor at the ready for anything you need a little extra help in
But for the most part he keeps as far as he can out of that section of your life
You friends are yours, not his
He's polite when they have sleepovers, and he's more than willing to host parties and hangouts
But he doesn't try too hard to impress them, and he doesn't talk to them unless its related to you
Because as much as he loves being around kids (a real big father he wants to adopt everybody he sees)
He doesn't want to impose on any boundaries YOU may have
As a side note though, he's still very observant of your relationships with them
If he overhears any manipulation, or shit talking (about you or not), he's not going to let it sit and exist
If it comes to it, he will contact the parents (And holy fuck they are TERRIFIED i mean imagine a publicly known MAFIA EXECUTIVE contacting you to tell your kid fucked with his ABSOLUTELY NOT GUYS)
If you're into any extracurriculars, he is ALWAYS there
Even if he's overseas on a mission, he has some lower rank attend and clears his schedule so he can watch through a call
Also guys, he practically funds your school?
Your teachers are terrified to cross you because if they do there will be NO SALARY
You complain about anything that happened? He's fixing it up in any way he can
You are his ANGEL, NOTHING will ruin your day as long as he can prevent it.
When you grow up, your options are very clear in his eyes
Either you go to uni and live independent of the mafia, or you inherit his spot when he dies
If you go for neither, he may be a bit shocked, but he'll hesitantly step back
He'll see how it goes, but he's not very confident at first
If it goes well? Fuck, great! He's always in your corner rooting for you
If it doesn't go so well, you always have him as a backup
He'll always be there to take you back with open arms and give you a second, third, fourth, fifth, etc chance. Always
If you do join the mafia, there will be no low rank experience for you
You're straight to the upper ranks. At first, you'll probably be in a position similar to Akutagawa under Dazai or how he was under Koyo
Direct subordinate, his apprentice, his prodigy
And when he dies, you're next in line for his exec spot
There's not even a worry about your skillset, he knows he's trained you well, ability or no ability.
Finally, back to the dilf topic I've mentioned at the beginning
If you go to uni, he has the same problem Dazai had, but WORSE
Fuck guys, he swears he tries to keep out of your friendships, but suddenly everyone's adults and they wont leave him alone.
It's at this point he stops hosting your events (except birthdays) and separates himself
No way is he getting involved with crazy college kids, no way
Overall: 9/10 father
He's a bit absent in your social circle, but he's your dad and thats that
He screams support from the stands and that's really the best you can ask for in a dad <3
┌──────┐

theyre so pathetic together-
theyre all the entertainment you need growing up
constant bickering (lovingly)
they dont involve you in all that
it comes with them both being in seperate factions, but they BOTH work very hard to keep you out of the professional lives
you're their kid, they dont want you in any of the doublesided danger that could get you in
you're probably a secret to everyone except the ADA and the other mafia
And your existence is on a need-to-know basis for everybody else
Dazai is the more present figure in your life, simply because Chuuya has to be a bit more distant
It's the nature of his line of work, anyone he's seen with is a target, and he doesn't want that to be you
He will be at your schooling events still, though. He will be YELLING AND SHOUTING in the stands
Into sports? Every time theres an unfair play he will cuss the living daylights out of the ref
And they just have to let him because theres nothing they can really do about
Dazais the same way, but with less scare factor and way less vigor
After games, he's going to complain WITH you about how lame the whole thing was if you lost, how everything was judged unfairly
They may not get along the best together, but they love each other and especially love you, so they're improving for you
Read: Chuuya is making them improve for you
Dazai thinks hes the victim in all this!
But oh well, if Chuuya makes him apologize when they argue in front of you, he will
When you're all grown up, they both encourage you to find your own path
You've got the chance, thanks to them, and they dont want you involved in their little wars
It's not like you can join any sides, because who would want to be against your dad :(
So really your only choice is moving out, maybe even away-
If you really do want into their business, they both insist you join the ADA
It's safer there for you, and Chuuya would rather have to order his men to not under any circumstances EVER hurt you, than have to watch someone he can't control put you in danger
Plus, he knows Dazai will keep you in the safest position possible
Overall: 7/10 together
They're a nightmare at dinner, and Dazai is sleeping on the couch almost every night
But they adore you and every move you make, so there's no way you're feeling unloved at all

haii deer i hope you are able to get all your assignments done on time! was reading your tags and aro dazai?? big brain.
so how about aro ace darling? never been in a relationship and never really want to, their friends are more than enough for them !! honestly i just wanna be aro buddies with dazai 🥹
but damn just being weirdo coworkers together, im,,, willing to look past many red flags for him 💔
YOURE JUST LIKE ME FR dazai and i are best friends and we are aro you can ask him yourself also weirdo coworkers.. you get it
"Oh, wait, so you were the latest person hired?" Atsushi's head cocked to the side, looking at you with curiosity. "How long have you been here?"
"My dear here has been with the agency for three months! You know, I was the one that brought them on board," Dazai gloated, a smug smirk on his face and a dramatic hand over his heart.
You were quick to play along, throwing a dramatic hand over your forehead as you leaned back. "Oh, my hero! What would I do without my lovely Dazai?" The sarcastic lilt in your tone didn't go unnoticed by the newest agency member, but he decided not to comment on it.
"Was it like what happened with me? Did you find Dazai drowning?" Apparently a common occurrence, Atsushi had pieced together.
Dazai denied, a smile on his face as he replied with a simple, "Nope!" A few moments of silence passed before the junior realized he wasn't going to elaborate.
Just as he opened his mouth to ask for more information, you decided to take pity on the poor soul and fill him in. "I bailed him out of a holding cell."
No one bat an eye. Atsushi looked around the office, trying to see if maybe someone was holding back laughter, but not a single one of his new coworkers were phased. Did they not hear what you said?
"He got detained for public disturbance in the middle of a case. I told Dazai he'd have to find a way to get out on his own, and he shows back up not even thirty minutes later with them in tow," Kunikida explains, frustration evident in his voice. "I was trying to teach him a lesson."
"I was in the area," you shrug.
"Yeah, being detained as well..."
"I was being released from detainment, actually!" You correct Kunikida, a proud grin on your face. "And Dazai said I should follow him, so I did."
Atsushi laughed awkwardly. He knew you seemed similar to Dazai in your hedonistic pursuits, but this was baffling. "And the president hired you?"
"I had an entrance exam, but pretty much! I had just been fired from my old job the day before so Dazai helped me get set up here. And before you ask: I was fired because I told the boss' kid I wouldn't date him. He got all upset and told daddy to can me," you huff in frustration, still annoyed at your wrongful termination.
Kunikida rolled his eyes. "Don't act like some martyr; You also deserved to be fired. You just messed around on the job like you do here. You barely got any work done."
"You want me so badly it makes you look stupid—"
"I told them to sue and say it's discrimination because they're aro," Dazai cut you off, a pout on his lips like he's annoyed you didn't take his advice.
"What's... arrow?" Atsushi cocked his head to the side. He was unaware of the terminology, having never come across it in this context during his studies at the orphanage.
"Oh, it's shorthand for aromantic. It just means, like, experiencing little to no romantic attraction to anyone. It varies, of course..." You try to explain simply.
Atsushi nods, understanding the basic idea. "But it'd be wrong to lie about your sexuality, right?"
"I'm aro, actually," you shrug. Everyone at the agency is well aware, so Atsushi will likely find out eventually.
"Oh!" The younger employee's cheeks turn pink, feeling a little sheepish for assuming. A moment passes as Atsushi thinks before furrowing his eyebrows in confusion. "I thought you and Dazai..?"
"We're both aromantic," Dazai rests his chin on his hand, elbow on his desk and an amused smirk pulling at his lips. "I've dated a lot in the past, but I realized it's just not for me."
"I've never been in a relationship and never want to," you add in yourself. "Aromanticism is... much more complex than how I explained it. Dazai feels romantic attraction, but doesn't— Is it fine if I tell him this?" You suddenly ask, realizing it really isn't your place to speak on his experience, even as his best friend.
"Oh, I don't care. Saves me the trouble," Dazai waves his hand dismissively. "But yeah, I feel romantic attraction, but lose it when it's reciprocated."
Atsushi nods slowly, beginning to understand. "Oh, okay. So you two are just close friends, then."
"Are we just not going to ask what you were doing in a holding cell when Dazai got thrown in?" Tanizaki asks from his desk.

atsushi nakajima ★↷
↪you had most likely met atsushi a little while after he had joined the agency. you were a part timer, due to your age, but initially would avoid him as you were never to good with intoducing yourself to people and taking the stance of disliking them the minite you saw them.
↪in spite of this, somehow you two wounded up on missions together therefore involuntarily getting to know eachother a bit better. eventually seeing eachother as some sort of friends. maybe it helped that you were quite fond of cats, although he insists a tiger isn't a cat.
↪atsushi would look out for you, he quickly learnt of your fear of being alone and naturally unsocial behaviour so wanted to make you as comfortable as possible around him. also in the sense of the fact that you were known to be quite clumsy.
↪your ability did terrify him at first, not that it was that bad but it shocked him the first time you turned something into a weapon. although he did eventually find it pretty cool. also was quite impressed by your swordsmanship skills.
osamu dazai ★↷
↪again, you had most likely met dazai through being a part timer at the agency. avoiding him and his eccentric personality, thinking of nothing but how annoying he seemed and refusing to talk to him unless absolutely necessary.
↪but it seemed seeing dazai so oftem triggered your false self-assurance, giving yourself quite the confidence to be more talkative. therefore getting to know eachother a bit. he could very quickly you resembled most of his more hidden personality to a t.
↪from your trust issues and fear of being alone to your negative outlooks, it reminded him painfully of himself. and he knew how that could affect you as you grew up, so he took up the slight bond you two had built to expand upon it and help you.
↪and as bad as he may be at helping, he wanted to try for your sake. perhaps he even started seeing you as a younger sibling, rather than his younger slef.
↪however your ability widely differed with his. he did like your ability as it was quite convenient and useful. he found it quite intriguing how the power of the item you created solely relied on how guilty you felt. but overall did admire it.
chuuya nakahara ★↷
↪in similar fashion, you had met chuuya by being the latest port mafia member. something about seeing you initially reminded him slightly of himself when he was still with the flags. and it still baffled him by the fact that he requested for you to be his subordinate.
↪he had felt a sort of sympathy for you, therefore wanted to ensure that whatever reason you were here at such an age didn't affect you further. especially considering how you always put yourself down, that made him want to help you even more.
↪he practically acted as more of an older sibling than your boss, always looking out for you no matter what.
↪he did think that your ability was very cool, that and your natural skills in weilding a proper sword. he could see that you probably could take care of yourself pretty easily, but considering your records in being quite clumsy, it didn't seem that good of an idea.
fyodor dostoevsky ★↷
↪meeting fyodor was practically shrouded in mystery, barely anyone can remember how you met the man. a popular idea is that kamui had the plan to bring you on as a new doa member, using your ability to help progress in their goals.
↪perhaps you had gravitated more towards him due to your lack of sicial skills, he was naturally quiet aswell making it very low maintenance to be around him. but however you two became closer is still quite the mystery. he found you intresting regardless.
↪especially how altruistic you could be when you went through your phases of falsely self-assuring yourself in times of hardship or boredom. but then he learnt how clumsy you could be, how quiet you were and your negative outlook, these all blurred his perceptions of you.
↪your ability further added to his interest, especially how your guilt upon crearing the weapons could heavily affect how strong they were to be created. he could see why it was useful but at the end of the day, he still hates all abilities.

!¡ ɴᴀᴠɪɢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ !¡ ᴍᴀsᴛᴇʀʟɪsᴛ !¡ ʀᴜʟᴇs : ɞ
With the type of yandere chuuya is, I don't think your behavior is surprising
It isn't like he raised you to be like this, but it is result of your upbringing
You are homeschooled, doesn't have friends, doesn't go out, Chuuya says it's because of the dangers that lurks on the city
You don't doubt him, because he make sure you see everything brutal news happening in your city on the tv
You've been raised quite sheltered, you don't know much about the outside world, you don't look much interested in it either
That's okay for him, he's pretty happy with that. He already lost so many, he won't lose you too
I see him as a pretty private man, and with his overbearing nature over you? You don't have a clue about his job
But with the days he comes back looking rather... Stressed, you don't think it's a good one
He don't blames you for you personality, he unconsciously endorse's it. The guilty feeling eates him away but he convinced himself that's for you safety
Besides, he's seen all type of people there, he can never be sure, right?
Sure, it can get tiring sometimes to have to comfort and reasure you over and over and over gain, but it's also him who is your protector, your hero and your guardian angel
The feeling of guilty makes him give you the minimum of normality, control and freedom over your life
You hate the way the sheet feels, sure! They're in the trash now, you want ice cream for lunch today? Why not, wanna watch a movie? We can do that now, you wanna go Disneyland? Okay, but promise to never leave the hotel room! It can be dangerous! Remember, don't trust strangers!
Maybe if you have anything you need to not leave, he won't need to worry about you all the time
Dazai is calculating, manipulative man, differently from Chuuya
He molded you to his likes, everything you do and every emotion you feel is expected, there's nothing you can hide from him
You ingenuity, innocence and sensitivity are his favorites traits from you, he can't fathom to have them destroyed
Dazai knows that isolating someone to the point of dependence isn't right, in any way. But cruelty knows Dazais as much as he knows cruelty
So he lies, lies to you about what there's outside, he's exaggerates stories from his work to you, he lies about people intentions. It's his job to keep you safe
He needs to protect you, he was tasked to protect the innocent and the weak, and that's exactly what he's doing, right?
He needs to protect you from people, dangerous people, people like him
So he is the only to know about you, he's the only one who memorized all your likes, all your dislikes, you preferences, your traits, you reactions, your gestures
He's always prepared for when you cry! He has the best methods to cheer you up
Now, when he's with you he can be very clingy, he has this necessity of being near you when he's home
You don't know about his suicidal ideation, you don't need to know 🤷♀️
between these three, I can see Atsushi as the most normal
Honestly the same situation with Chuuya, your behavior is just result of your upbringing 👌
It's just, he's so paranoid about your safety, yet he can never submit to the torture he suffered as a child, never. You're his kid, he going to give you the love he never got
You're allowed to get out, you just don't. Because your vision of the world is also distorted, but also because of his constant need to know where you are
He's pretty affectionate, honestly he is always saying how proud of you he is
Aside from the constant coddling. Atsushi always on the verge of crying with you when you're having one of yours emotional outbursts
Seriously, he gets desperately so easily but always finds a solution for you
He isn't capable of resent you for that, truly in his mind you're just a his child that needs protection 🩷

First week -
You were a very interesting baby and very easy to take care of. Dazai is grateful for that, you are calm, sleep all night and only cry when hungry or scared. Right now, you are in a deep slumber on a futon, with a bag containing some of your needs. On the right side is Dazai, with a notebook on his lap, flashing a blue light on his face and the rest of the dark room.
He still can't believe he has a fully-fledged human that will develop thoughts and feelings and later become its own person.
In the experience of taking care of his child, Dazai found out it was no small task. Responsible for feeding, changing, cleaning, and entertaining — that was just about the baby part, though! Of course, there are the house chores too; time management for them was a challenge. He was very thankful for the old lady's help with the basics, he wished he could stay more, but he was on the run, and he had to be on alert for his baby and his friend's promise.
Dazai's gaze lingers on you, lost in the land of dreams. He thinks to himself, How could a being like him make a being like you? He doesn't know how he will fulfill his friend's promise, but he knows he will start with you.
The room was a tranquil oasis of serenity and comfort. The walls were adorned with traditional Japanese paper screens, creating the illusion of a serene forest scene. The floor was covered with thick tatami mats, ensuring a cushiony walk anywhere in the room. Your bed was an intricately woven futon, covered in soft cotton blankets and pillows. A low table and wooden furnishings completed the space with the warmth and serenity of a traditional Japanese home. The entire room was filled with a subtle and delicate aroma of incense and fresh flowers.
The room Dazai and you are in is from a hotel called The Merry Oaks, a name that is meant to convey a homey, comfortable and safe atmosphere. It's quite a tantalizing resort, with multiple rooms to rent. The logo is a pair of oak trees covered in red, orange and yellow leaves, with the title or name of the hotel underneath, accompanied by a smaller font size. The branding goes for calm and warm colors, such as yellow, orange, brown and green. It's located on the outskirts of the city.
The bustle and noise of the city proper were distant, faint, and muted all the way out here. The streets grew increasingly narrow and the buildings shorter, until eventually the skyline was barely visible between the trees. A calmness pervaded, and it seemed as if time itself had slowed down. Though this was not quite the case, the silence of a place where so few chose to go made it feel far removed from the city. And maybe that was its greatest charm.
As Dazai scrolled through the job lists in his notebook, his frustration boiled over. Nothing here had exactly what he was searching for — a job that helps people. In reality, the site showed no such thing, taking a deep breath. With a curse, he shut the notebook and carefully stood up, stretching and rubbing his eyes. This searching is exhausting; perhaps it's time to take a break before his sanity snaps.
The baby, still asleep, shifted restlessly in the soft bed. Their small fingers fiddled with the soft fabric of their blanket as they dreamed, their face still covered with faint vestiges of drool despite the careful cleaning performed by Dazai earlier. Their tiny foot kicked out from beneath the covers, and they stirred slightly. Was this the start of a nightmare? Would they wake up crying? Dazai glanced over at the child, a sense of tenderness filling his heart.
He scooped you up into his arms, cradling you against his chest. There was a sense of responsibilities and protectiveness, but also a lingering doubt in his abilities as a father "I never thought I'd end up in this situation" he murmured, holding you a little closer, "hng..." you snore, not seeming wanting to wake up, Dazai raised an eyebrow, observing your sleepy response. "Hmm, seems like someone isn't quite ready to wake up yet," he chuckled softly, holding you a little closer. "Well, that's alright. We can take our time. No need to rush into the day just yet."
He settled back down on the floor, leaning against the wall with you still in his arms. He gazed out the window, lost in his thoughts for a moment. "You know, sometimes I think about how different things could have been," he mused quietly. "But then I look at you, and... I can't help but feel grateful for this unexpected turn of events."
Dazai's expression softened as he looked down at you, his eyes filled with a mixture of tenderness and uncertainty. "I may not have all the answers, and I may not be the most conventional father figure, but I promise one thing: I will always be here to help you. No matter what happens, I will do my best to protect you and give you a good life.” He placed a soft kiss on your forehead, his lips lingering for a moment before pulling away. “You are my little ray of sunshine. In this chaotic world, you know? And I promise to cherish every moment we spend together"
The only close experience Dazai ever get from a hospital one was when he was in Mori's care, all he knew was injections, remedies and how to stitch up wounds. The hospital is a place of sterility and white surfaces, on the walls are displays that advertise the various healthcare plans offered by the hospital, which are all quite expensive, everything gives an impression to seem as clean as possible, white walls and floors and the faint smell of disinfectant. The bustling hallway is filled with people hurrying back and forth, talking to each other as they go. A nurse runs by, carrying a bag filled with medication and needles. At the end of the hall is the reception desk, which currently has a long line of people waiting in front of it. To the right is the elevator, while to the left it continues into more rooms.
Fourth week -
It's all so foreign to him, to be in an environment that contrast with his previous job. The bright light, the delicacy, the duty of saving life. Ah, the subject of life, talking about life, you're the reason that you're both here. Dazai remembers the kimiko, the old lady who helped him tell about newborns needing monthly check-ups, thus why you're here today, meeting new people.
Holding his bundled baby closer. He felt the eyes of the staff on him and the baby, wondering what the situation was. It felt strange to be there, so out of place in an environment so foreign to him. But he reminded himself of his purpose. The baby needed a check-up, and he was here to make sure it was done right. With this in mind, he made his way to the reception desk, hoping to quickly get the necessary procedures done.
The visit to pediatrician was short and actually relieving, for such anxiety that exhaled off his body, guess that's the effect of being a parent, so many consternations for such minor things. But that says a lot for the parents love for their little ones.
All the questions the kind doctor had were expected and easy to answer, Dazai felt an once of pride coming of his chest. He knows he's doing his best for you, but sometimes is nice having confirmation.
With the check-up done, Dazai's next task was to find a place to stay for the night. He made his way to the nearest hotel, thinking it would be a good place to rest after such a long day.
As they entered the hotel lobby, their arrival went mostly unnoticed. However, once again, Dazai felt the eyes of the staff on him and the baby, questioning
"What's the situation?" They think, silently observing him and the baby. But Dazai pays them no mind, focusing on finding his room and getting the baby settled in.
The check-in process is easy and efficient, and within minutes, Dazai and the baby are in their room. It's small and simple, but perfectly functional. With the baby settled in, Dazai takes a deep breath and takes in the moment. Finally, they've made it, and the baby is safe and secure. It's time for them to get some much-needed rest...
As the baby drifts off to sleep, Dazai can't help but feel proud of himself and overwhelmed with emotion. It's been a long journey to get here, and he can't believe how far they've come. He carefully lays the baby down and closes the curtains, closing out the world that lies beyond and protecting the baby in their sleep. With that, he sits down in a comfortable chair and takes a deep breath to collect himself. Changing into comfortable clothes, It's finally time to rest, knowing the baby is safe and sound.
"It's unbelievable, isn't it?" Dazai thought as he gazed at the sleeping baby. "I'm a father, a parent, responsible for keeping another human alive and well. Just a few months ago, I never thought this would be my reality. And yet, here I am, looking at the most beautiful and precious child I've ever seen." Dazai felt a deep sense of pride and love as he remembered the months leading up to the baby's birth. It hadn't been easy, and he was still adjusting to this new role in life. But he was grateful for the chance to be a father.
"I'm going to do it right," Dazai said to himself as he looked at the baby. "I'm going to be the best father I can be, to give this child the love and guidance they need. I'm going to make sure they have all the opportunities in life, so they can reach their full potential and find their own happiness." Dazai felt his heart swell as he continued to silently watch the baby sleep. This was the person he would be working so hard to protect and provide for, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
Dazai also remembered the promise he had made to his friend, to protect the innocent and the weak. He vowed to keep that promise and be the best parent possible.
As the baby continued to rest, Dazai settled into a more comfortable position and continued to watch the baby sleep. He felt a sense of peace, knowing that the baby was safe and well. As his gaze lingered on the sleeping face, his thoughts turned to the future. He wondered what kind of person the baby would grow up to be, and how he would support them in their unique dreams and aspirations.

m.list // now playing..
[ a/n ; THANK YOU FOR REQUESTING!! if something doesn't make sense, please god just ignore it because it's 2am, i'm dehydrated, half asleep, and i really need to continue writing on this blog. ]
[ warning ; platonic yandere, dazai himself needs a warning, mentions of abuse (not towards reader), mentions of the abuse cycle, user is about 18, mori is present, there's literally more backstory/explanation to this than the actual point, im sobbin ]
It was years since Dazai left the Port Mafia.
You were his other subordinate, besides Akutagawa. The ways he treated you both were entirely different - it usually ended in you being forced to watch Dazai 'train' Akutagawa, while he later patted your head, praising you for being good, which was standing by his side and watching as he mistreated others. Of course, after that, you would treat any of Akutagawa's wounds. Dazai treated you so well because you were like him, but why didn't he treat Akutagawa the same? You never understood.
Dazai spoke to you once before leaving - ordering you to stay put. He even injured you, breaking a few of your fingers and telling you to say you had gotten into a fight before he left, so you wouldn't be suspected in aiding his treason.
While you were glad that Akutagawa would no longer have to suffer by his hands - you were somewhat upset by him leaving. While some of the others were fine with comforting you, it wasn't the same as when Dazai did it. You couldn't help but miss the times he would praise you and pat your head for doing well.
But over time, you changed. You'd learned how to cope a much better way, and instead of wanting his praise and affection, you grew colder to anyone who tried showing you any kind of love. When others in the mafia tried to comfort you over him leaving, they'd watch as you became cold to them, not letting yourself be vulnerable to anybody anymore. Akutagawa had also changed - however, he was.. worse. The abuse cycle that had started from Mori had yet to break.
It was about a month after Kyouka had been taken in by the Armed Detective Agency. Mori never told you much about the agency, nothing about who was in it aside from Fukuzawa, Yosano, Atsushi, and Kyouka, and that they were different in many obvious ways, but had a form of alliance to defeat the Guild, none of which you'd been involved in. Everyone else was a mystery to you, since you were never given jobs involved with the agency anyway.
It came to your surprise when Mori presented you with a brand new mission of sort, to go with him while meeting with the leader of the Agency. That was unusual - usually Chuuya or Akutagawa did jobs like this, or when you were given one, they took it anyway, just to 'be nice to you'.
But Mori insisted you go, even though he gave you a choice to give it to Chuuya, Akutagawa, or anyone else. Even Chuuya suggested he take the job, not explaining himself, just insisting you let him take it. But this time was different - you were offered this, given an actual chance to be involved with the agency's dealings with the Port Mafia, something you were never given.
Of course you took the job.
You trailed closely behind Mori, following him loyally as you two had walked to the meeting place. If it was held in secret, then why the hell was it outside, anyway?
"[Name]," Mori called to you, turning to meet your eyes. He continued speaking after he knew you were listening. "Fukuzawa-san brought another of his own for the same reason I am bringing you. Just a heads up," Mori cheerfully spoke. Why didn't he tell you beforehand? It didn't matter now, though.
Both you and Mori approached the place to meet with the leader. You could see there was another person with Fukuzawa, but you stood behind Mori, and their upper half had been blocked out. No big deal.
You stepped out from behind your boss, arms crossed above your chest as you eyed the leader of the agency. He looked so kind, a part of you wondered what it'd be like if you were with the agency instead.
But Fukuzawa wasn't the only person you saw.
Standing close behind him was a tall man with dark, wavy chestnut hair, in a long, tan trench coat. He wasn't just any man. That was the familiar face of Osamu Dazai. The youngest executive in the history of the Port Mafia.
And you were his ex-subordinate, right there in front of both. Both of your eyes widened, but you were much more surprised to see Dazai than he was to see you, Like he expected this.
You barely listened to the conversation between Fukuzawa and Mori, only making out a few words - 'Guild', Defeat', 'Fitzgerald', 'Agency', and 'Mafia'. None of them mattered to you as much as they should have. Your eyes flickered between the pavement and Dazai, who stared at you intently, not bothering to hide it. He had an expression that you just couldn't read precisely - it was impossible to tell what he was thinking in the moment. You on the other hand? Your thoughts were clear, a beyond frustrated glare was evident on your face.
It felt like an hour standing there, listening to Mori and Fukuzawa talk, if you could even say you were listening. But it was over only twenty minutes later.
Mori smiled at Fukuzawa, while the other just nodded calmly. Your boss began to walk forward, looking at you to signal you were to walk with him. Fukuzawa and Dazai did the same.
However, when you and Dazai were next to each other, he stopped, turning to look at you. Out of curiosity, you sighed and looked up at him. His eyes were not kind, but a slight smile was etched onto his face. A bandaged hand took your shoulder, and Dazai spoke to you for the first time in years.
"My, how you've grown." Verbal surprise was clear in his voice. Dazai was about to speak again, but you cut him off before he could get a word out. "Don't fucking touch me." The taller brunette sighed, turning his full body towards you this time, not just his head.
He smiled at you, closing his eyes. "You've changed so much. We'll meet again, I'll make sure of it." After finishing his sentence, he began to catch up with Fukuzawa. You stood there, looking at Dazai as he walked off calmly.
While you were upset about how he left you, it wasn't your main concern. Was he not sorry about the way he treated Akutagawa, making you watch as he made him suffer for so long?
Part of you wanted to run after him and punch him, but it wasn't worth it, not now. Even so, the thought seeing him was upsetting, and meeting him again wasn't in your best interest.
