I'm almost done with my rewatch of the Toei Yu-Gi-Oh adaptation and I already finished my reread of the manga, so I thought it would be fun to plot out exactly what the anime adapts and the order it does so, and then look at how many people Yugi actually murders lol.
No one dies in the anime version; all of the deadlier games were softened into illusions of dying rather than actual death, but in the manga there are a few actual deaths - but less than I remembered, lol.
There are only 4 confirmed or at least mostly confirmed deaths in the manga:
The escaped convict, who dies when he drops his cigarette butt into the alcohol poured on him and is incinerated.
Kaiba's butler is probably dead, as he was shocked with his own electric chair.
The Chopman was killed when he pulled the candle into the oil on the floor and incinerated him.
Imori is probably dead as his soul was eaten by dragons.
The rest of the deadly experiences are unconfirmed.
Inogashira is not confirmed to have died, but he did have gunpowder explode in his face so he's almost certainly in the hospital. As no character mentioned a dead student before the festival, I'm gonna assume he lived, as otherwise I feel like the festival would have been canceled or something.
The Scorpion Shoe owner did get poisoned by his scorpion, but Yugi apparently called the ambulance for him, so I'm guessing he probably made it.
A bunch of Jonouchi's old game get electrocuted when a taser falls into the puddle they're standing in, but as Hirutani reappears chapters later, I'm gonna guess it didn't kill any of them.
Two of the assassins in the laser tag game ARE hit with the deadly electric shock, but Honda specifically says that he lowered the voltage, so they probably lived.
It's very unclear to me what happened to Nagumo after the Monster Fight, as he does appear to be lying unconscious or dead in the room after Yugi walks away. So this could possibly be a murder, though this happens late enough in the story that Yami no Yugi's methods started to get a little less deadly, so I don't think he killed him, at least not intentionally.
Lastly, it's not exactly shown what happened to Hirutani's gang members after they collapsed through the roof during the yo-yo battle, so it's possible they could have died, but I think judging by the height they're shown falling from it's more likely they're just hospitalized.
So actually yea Yugi has a smaller body count than I thought lol.
