we've never seen socialism existing on its own terms. every socialist project has existed under a constant state of siege by the capitalist world, which is determined to overthrow it. when you scoff that the state has never withered away in any Marxist-Leninist country, you're really scoffing that global capitalism hasn't been defeated yet, because that's what forces socialist projects to maintain their state. you might as well be scoffing at people for not floating while gravity still exists

OH MY GOD… my baby Qais’s heart stopped tonight. I ran through darkness carrying him, screaming for help, until doctors said severe anemia from his bleeding nearly killed him again.

Today we ran out of clean bandages and medicine, and I had no money left to replace them. I never imagined I would beg strangers to help me care for my child.

The doctor told me that due to malnutrition and lack of treatment, my baby Qais has developed severe anemia. I have no money to get what he needs. Please, can you donate now so I can buy his medicine and food?

can we bring back the term "fair-weather friend" bc I feel like if fair-weather friends got called that more this whole argument about whether or not you should be there for your friends when it's inconvenient/at what point of personal inconvenience it's ok to bail on your friends would kinda fall apart bc like. we literally have a word for "friend who's only there when you don't need something from them" because the baseline expectation is that a friend should be there even when it sucks. like we used to make fun of people for bailing on their friends.
