Sometimes I do random research for my story and I remembered that someone asked me why I decided on the name 'Alaric' for Moonbeam's younger brother. The answer I originally gave is I looked up a list of popular names in 1970/80s and Alaric was pretty high up on the list! I also really liked the name Alaric in the Vampire Diaries (his character is pretty alright until the end...)
However, these past couple days I started watching a campaign with a character named Alric and I was curious as to the origins of the name. First off, Alaric translates to 'ruler of all' or 'noble ruler' Ala meaning all and ric meaning king/ruler. It stems from old Germanic meanings and the first ruler of the Visgoths was named Alaric I!
In its own way the naming of him has very deep roots to what I am and where I came from. To Moonbeam, Alaric really is the ruler of her life.
