Like dawg why are we presenting the uncle/niece 2 for 1 combo of alyn and baela and daemon and rhaenyra as somehow morally ok incest couples. Why did the only interrogation of what dameon did to rhaenyra happen in s2 with those harrenhal dreams and then he was somehow absolved of everything by believing she should be queen because of a prophecy.

Immediately starting my rewatch of the season now that it's wrapped up. I do love how sinister Jace comes off in this scene. It's always been an undercurrent of the character, from bringing the knife in 1x07 to lashing out at Luke in 1x10 and Ulf in 2x08, but never really emphasized by the show until now.

He strips his own mother of her agency and authority, knowing people will listen to him because the Black Council at the time is a bunch of misogynists, and he does it with the assurance that HE won't be punished for it. "Your life for hers," as in he fully knows that Ser Lorent is going to die unnecessarily for HIS choice and commands it done anyway.

It's a really interesting choice for what is essentially Jace's last big scene. He's always been the nice, dutiful son in contrast to the menaces that are Aegon and Aemond. He vows "My ruler is my mother, and I do not wish it otherwise" in 2x06, but this scene shows that even he is susceptible to the patriarchal order that looms over all of them that enables men to be their worst selves. When he finally has enough and thinks he knows better, he will use his privilege as a man to exert authority over her. Even Jace can't escape the corrupting influence of their whole society.
