Kohane's Beginner Guide to Sekai

Hi! Welcome to Kohane’s Ultimate Guide to Sekai. I’m Mellow and I’m a huge Kohane simp. This guide aims to walk you through the basic gameplay and explain everything in the menus. It’ll also include tips and tricks by seasoned players. I hope this will help both newbies and veterans understand the game better!

Jokes, opinions and my personal salt will be written in italised text. Feel free to ignore it or laugh at my suffering as I take screenshots of my alt account.

There will be tons of pictures, so I hope your data or wifi can handle it. This blog is also a work in progress, so hopefully it’ll be less ugly in the future. Reading on mobile is more pleasant.

There are three things cards are trained in. Card Level, Skill Level, and Master Rank. Reading Card stories will also increase the card’s BP.

Card Level  There are two ways you can level up a card. First way is by playing songs normally, and the exp gained is affected by how many boosts you are using. The second way is to use EXP Sheets to level them up straight away.

You can reach the training page from Training / Card page > Level up. 3* and 4* cards can be further trained at their first maxed level limit to unlock another 10 levels and new card art.

Max Level 1* cards > Lvl 20 2* cards > Lvl 30 3* cards > Lvl 40 > Lvl 50 4* cards > Lvl 50 > Lvl 60

Requirements to unlock / train cards 3* cards = Lvl 40 + 100 Attribute Gems + 50 Rainbow Gems 4* cards = Lvl 50 + 200 Attribute Gems + 80 Rainbow Gems

*Note: You can get more upgrade materials by playing the game normally, buying them from the event shop, and buy them from the cash shop.

Card Stories You may unlock and read the First Card Story anytime. Reaching the card’s maxed level will also allow you to read the Second Card Story. Reading the card stories will increase its BP and clear Character Rank missions. 

Gacha Pity is different from Sparking. In this system, you’re guaranteed a random 4☆ if your next pull is the 50th point, and a random featured (rate-up/banner) 4☆ if your next pull is the 100th point in the bar. 

You may still spark after reaching Pity.

There are two types of gems - Free Gems and Paid Gems (bought with real money).

How does this work? You get +0.5 points every single pull and +5 points every 10 pull in the gacha. (The amount of points you get is DOUBLED if you use only paid crystals on the pull.)

In order to reach 50 points for a random 4☆, you will need either: -50 pulls using paid crystals (15,000 paid crystals) OR -100 pulls using free crystals (30,000 free crystals)

In order to reach 100 points for a random rate-up 4☆ on the current banner, you will need either: -100 pulls using paid crystals (30,000 paid crystals) OR -200 pulls using free crystals (60,000 free crystals)

Additional info -The 1-time only discounted 10-pull and daily solos will count towards gacha bonus. -Gacha bonus won’t carry over between banners and will reset every new banner. -Gacha bonus is not applicable to banners such as limited and colorful fes banners. -The gacha bonus will reset once you reach 100 points.

Good news! You can now give characters alternate hairstyles. Bad news is, they are unlocked by pulling their limited cards. As of 15/Sep/2021, there have been no news of rerunning the normal limited cards. Fes Lims come with hairstyles too and they reappear every Fes Banner.

Nevertheless, if you’re lucky enough to get a limited card, here is how you can change their hair.

1) Increase their Master Rank to 2

2) Go to Hairstyles tab in Costumes

Not all accessories will work with the alternate hairstyle. If there is a “x”, it means you cannot use it on the new hairstyle.

3) Enjoy!

Team Building is important for maximising your score and event points gained. However, having a good team does not affect your actual skill at the rhythm game.

There are three main aspects to making a team.

Event Bonus

Event bonus is a significant multiplier to the amount of event points you can get. Not maximising your bonus will make you lose out on a lot of event points.

1) Correct Type AND Correct Character (VS is unit-specific) = 50% 2) Correct Type OR Character = 20% 3) Incorrect Type or Character = 0%

Max event bonus = 250% (not true for all events)

Band Power (BP)

Reaching 150k BP will allow you to enter the Veteran Room (vet). Vet provides more drops than Free rooms.

Having a high BP will increase your personal score in solo / multi lives. High scores will also give you a lot of event points.

To increase BP, level up the specific area items, unlock the card’s stories, or level up the card’s Master Rank.

Vet (BP) VS Event Bonus  This is a big dilemma as people wonder whether to sacrifice BP or Event bonus.

The trade off is 30k bp ≈ 30% bonus. So if you gained less than 30k BP after sacrificing that 2* card bonus, don’t bother.

However, I find that choosing Event Bonus still gives me slightly more EP. Thus YYMV.

Skills

In solo lives, all the skills in your team will activate. In multi lives, only the leader’s skill will activate together with total score boost from your team.

There are 5 types of skills right now. 1) Scorers 2) Perfect Lockers (Plock) 3) Healers 4) Perfect Scorers (Pscorer) 5) Life Scorers

If you want to score as high as possible, put as many scorers in your team. Life scorers have the highest score boost when maxed (100% ~ 140%), then Pscorers (110% ~ 130%), then Scorers (100% ~ 120%). Healers and Plockers have a lower maxed boost (80% ~ 100%). (4* cards btw)

A healer team can give you more health and last longer in the song. Also useful in Cheerful Carnival events as having at least 1k hp will give you more event points.

Plockers will change good or bad notes into perfects for a shot duration, which is helpful for people looking to achieve All Perfect in their songs.

Here’s a general formula to have the optimal event team.

Multi Live is the multiplayer aspect of the game. It’s the most popular mode for players as you can score higher and get more event points. The game will also not end if you fail the song, so some people use it to practice. You can start a multi room with 2 people, up to 5.

Types of rooms 

1) Public rooms (pub) Free Room (Blue) - There are no requirements to join these rooms. 

Veteran Room (Pink) - You need at least 150k BP to join the room. You’ll be matched with players similar to your own BP and will obtain more rewards compared to Free Room.

2) Private rooms You can create your own private room or join another. Private rooms are also separated into Free or Vet rooms. 

Instead of being kicked out after a game, players are able to play together again in private rooms. You may also allow public people to join your room if you do not have enough players. (click the white button) 

Once you switch on the option to accept public people, it’ll be permanently on until the room is broken up. 

Song Selection You have 20 seconds to choose a song, or pick random AKA omakase (the white button at the bottom). The game will only pick a random song if everyone picks Omakase, and will give priority / shuffle between songs selected by people. 

1) Song Vocals You can choose between who’s vocals you want to use. In general, there are Vocaloid ver, Sekai Ver, and Alternate Vocals (buy from shop to unlock).

2) Confirm Button After choosing your difficulty, tap the green button to confirm it. You can untap it and choose again if the other players are not ready.

4) Using Original Costume and Unit Ticking this box will make the game use the default characters and costumes in 3dmv during the song regardless of the team.

5) MV Tapping this will switch between No MV / 2DMV / 3DMV if it applies. It’ll save between songs so remember to switch back.

6) Game Settings Here are the translations.

SUPERFEVER In Multi Live, there will be a Fever Chance. If everyone in the multi full combos the fever section, they’ll get SuperFever and one extra random reward at the end. 

Solo live is the single player aspect of the game. You can choose what songs you want to play immediately, and restart indefinitely. Here is a rundown of everything you’ll see in Solo Lives. 

Choose your song Songs are sorted according to which group it belongs to, then further filtered / sorted to levels / fc-ed / 3dmv / etc

Choose your team You can choose between 10 teams and edit them right before the song.

1) Song Vocals You can choose between who’s vocals you want to use. In general, there are Vocaloid ver, Sekai Ver, and Alternate Vocals (buy from shop to unlock). 

2) Using Original Costume and Unit Ticking this box will make the game use the default characters and costumes in 3dmv during the song regardless of the team.

3) MV Tapping this will switch between No MV / 2DMV / 3DMV if it applies. It’ll save between songs so remember to switch back.

4) Game Settings Here are the translations.

5) AutoPlay AutoPlay plays the song automatically and can only be used 10 times a day. It can only be activated if you’re using 1x boost or more. You’ll still be able to get the full rewards, EXP, and Event points as per normal. Only your personal score will be reduced by half (which affects EP gain).

6) Start Button The boost indicator shows how much boosts you’ll be using, regardless of whether you have enough or not. If you don’t have enough, it’ll take the leftovers.

7) Notes Setting Use it to adjust your note speed. Ticking the box will prevent it from appearing every time you play. (Go to settings to adjust again)

8) Pause menu You can pause anytime during the song.

Right button - End song (sends you back to town) Middle button - Restart song (boost will only be used up when you finish the song) Left button - Resume song 

9) Back to Song Select At the end of the song, you are allowed to quickly go back to the song select menu to start another song. Clicking OK will return you back to town.

Rerolling accounts mean creating a new account again and again to obtain your desired cards in the first few pulls. *Warning* Your accounts will be wiped every time you reroll, so remember to save them before restarting!

IOS 1) Save your account 2) Redownload the game to make a new account.

Deleting or reinstalling the game will reset everything, so it’s important to save your account just in case. Here’s what you should do to keep your account safe, or if you lose your account to a game-breaking bug. You can also use this method to save your accounts in case you want to reroll.

Where is it?

Linking your account to Google / IOS Game Center

Click the button on the left to link your account to Google Play or Gamecenter

Click the button on the right to create a Transfer Code

1) You’ll be given a text box. Type in any password 2) A 16 character string of letters and numbers will be generated, and your password will be shown as well. Screenshot it and save it. It is also a one-time use. You have to generate a new one if you use it.

It’s a dead password, don’t bother.

Finding your personal ID number

Go to your profile and tap the button for your personal ID number. It is unique to your account, and will help immensely when emailing support.

Relogging into your account

Your account can only be on one device at a time. Here’s how you can relog into your account.

On the title screen, open the menu and click the phone icon. After entering the correct code and password, your account name and player rank will be displayed. Confirm that it is correct, and click out of the menu. Enter the game as usual and you should be in your account.

Additional Information

Your paid purchases will transfer over platforms (eg. Android to IOS), so nothing will be lost.

If you forget to screenshot the transfer password, you can generate a new one by typing a new password.

Adjusting your settings is important, as the game is not optimised for all phones. Changing your note speed can also help improve your skill.

This gear icon is the settings. The following screenshots are translated and edited by Narwhal from discord.

1) Note Speed Increasing note speed will decrease the density of notes while playing, making it easier to read at harder difficulties

2) Note Timing This is the offset. You can change it if your audio doesn’t sync up to the notes

3) Lane Opacity Increase if you want to see the lanes more clearly

4) Character / Display skills  Characters will suddenly talk during the Solo and Multi lives. Turn it off if it’s distracting

5) Display mode Choose if you want to play 3dmv / 2dmv / Data saver as default during lives. If your phone constantly lags, change it to lightweight

6) Screen Orientation Turn it off if you want to rotate your phone screen

The event shop is where you will spend your event coins. It is also what we call the freebies because you technically don’t have to spend any real cash to buy everything. This page will include what is getting sold, and what you should prioritise buying if you don’t have enough time to play.

Event coins

Every time you play a live, the amount of event coins earned will be 10% of event points received. If you want to know how to gain more event points or coins, check out the Event Points page.

What should I buy??

Here is what you should absolutely buy, from the highest priority to the lowest.

1) Event 2* and 3* cards (20k event coins max) *As of 14/1/2021, there is no way of buying past event shop cards. 

2) 300 Crystals (3k event coins max)

3) 2 Medium Skill EXP books (10k event coins max) *There is no way to level up skills by grinding plays, so this is very valuable

4) 1 Stamp Ticket (5k event coins) *The only other way to get them from Character Ranks, so it’s really rare

5) 5 Small cans (500 event coins max) *They give you one stamina / boost each, which is helpful if you hoard a lot and you want to tier! It’s limited to event shop atm

6) 50 Medium EXP Sheet (5k event coins max) *They help you level up your cards very quickly, so it’s ultra helpful! 

7) 10 Music Cards (1k event coins max) *Good if you haven’t unlocked all the stories and want to buy more songs

Items you can farm but useful to have

8) 100k Coins (10k event coins) *You need a lot of coins to upgrade your area items, so it never hurts to have more

9) 1.5k Virtual coins (15k event coins max) *It’s useful if you want to spend them on virtual lives. You get dupe stones too from using them too!

10) Seeds, Rainbow Egg, Cloth, Thread *They are rarer drops during lives, so some people will buy them.

11) Attribute Eggs / Pieces *You can just farm them in lives. 

Total Cost

To buy everything in the shop, you need 219k event coins, or 2.19mil event points. (as of 14/1/2021)

If you want to buy the event shop limited items, you just need about 38k to 40k event coins, or 400k event points.

Buying the Battle pass (or premium mission pass) will unlock the rewards in the yellow boxes. However, you still need to farm enough points to receive all the rewards. 

Battle pass resets on the 1st of each month at 00:00 Japan time. Buying the pass will automatically unlock all the rewards who’s milestone have been reached, so some people would buy it on the last few days once they are sure they have enough points.

Things received immediately after purchase:

1) 1800 PAID crystals 2) 1800 virtual coins

Completing battle missions will give you:

1) Additional 5000 FREE crystals 2) Additional 5000 virtual coins 3) Two costumes for each gender (Alt colours at 5000pts, 6000pts, 7000pts, 8000pts) *Battle pass costumes might return in the future

Should I buy it?

I’ll say this every time. It’s your money. You decide if it’s worth it or not!

Colorful Pass is a monthly pass (at the date of purchase) that gives you extra gems and more if you buy it again. It has the best crystal to real money ratio. Most people buy it together with the Battle Pass as it doubles the points obtained every live so it’s easier to complete the Battle missions.

Every time you purchase the pass again, you get more FREE crystals (max 6 times)

1st time - 100 free crystals 2nd time - 200 free crystals 3rd time - 300 free crystals 4th time - 500 free crystals 5th time - 700 free crystals 6th time - 1000 free crystals 7th time - 100 free crystals and so on.

Hi hi! So you want to dress up your oshi in a lot of cute clothing, right? So do I, hence Kohane in a miko outfit. It’s still one of the best purchases I’ve made so far. For info about Hairstyles, click here.

You will see their change in clothes in the reward pages after a live or during a 3D MV. Just remember to untick this box so that you can watch them dance in their new clothes!

How to get more clothing?

1. Buy more clothes from the clothing store in the shopping mall (left side)

Each outfit costs 300 cloth and 30 thread. You can farm these materials by playing lives, but it does not have a very high drop rate. 

Certain 4* cards have costumes, so if you obtain one of them, you’ll unlock the first colour and be able to craft it for your characters. To unlock the rest of the alternate colours, you need to increase the Master Rank of that specific 4* card.

2. Obtaining them as rewards from Battle Pass

Battle Pass is a paid monthly pass that gives you more crystals, virtual coins, and outfits. You get the first outfit at 5000 battle points, then its alternate colours at 6000, 7000, and 8000 points. Everyone can wear battle pass costumes immediately. Battle pass missions restart every month, so you only have until the end of the month to collect enough points (max 8000). Buying the battle pass will automatically unlock previous milestones rewards, so you can buy it at the end of the month to ensure you have enough points. Said costumes from battle pass might return, as claimed by the developers.

3. Buying costumes during special holidays.

During Christmas 2020 and New Years 2021, Santa and Miko costumes were sold for 1960yen each for each gender. Buying them unlocks all alternate colours and can be worn by anyone immediately. Like the battle pass costumes, they might return in the future. I really regret not buying the santa outfits because I want to give everyone a christmas hat...

How to change my character’s clothes?

Go to Members, and click that green icon with the dress. Choose your character and a list of clothing will appear. Locked outfits means that you haven’t bought it for that character, or it’s simply not available because it’s a paid outfit. After selecting the outfit, click that white button at the bottom, choose your alternate colour (if available) and confirm it again. Do the same for head accessories.

How do I get more cloth and thread?

1. Buying from the Event Store - 100 event coins for 1 cloth (max 300 = 30k coins) - 1000 event coins for 1 thread (max 30 = 30k coins)

2. Playing a lot of lives (and pray)

3. Buying the monthly Clothing Bundle (1960yen) (3 times a month) - 300 cloth - 30 thread - 1800 paid crystals   (You can purchase the pack 3 times a month)

Is it worth it to pay real money to buy more cloth?

It’s your money. You decide. I’m not going to be responsible for making people whale here!

Stamps are the cute emotes you can use in multi or virtual lives. They are often used to “talk” to other players as people has created a system where using a certain stamp indicates a certain action. More info about it will be in “How to tier?” guide. They also help raise character ranks very quickly, as 1 stamp = 1 exp chop.

Where to see your stamps?

Opening this page will let you see all the stickers you have, and choose 20 of them as your favourites for easy access during lives. 

How to get stamps?

1. Buying them from the stamp store in the shopping mall (right side)

2. Watching Event “After-lives” virtual lives

You still can get old event stamps even if you have missed the actual event. Just go to the Event Stories page, read through all of that particular event’s chapters, and the virtual live will be unlocked. However, you will not get 300 crystals as part of the rewards.

3. Reaching Character Rank 38 of a character. It’s gonna take forever to raise those ranks, so don’t rush for this...

Is it worth it to buy stamps?

Like previously mentioned, buying stamps is a very fast way to increase your character’s Character Rank. Increasing Character Ranks gives you a lot of crystals and flexes just how much you simp for that character.

Fine! How do I get more stamp tickets?

1. Buying from the Event Store (5000 event coins) (1 per event) 2. Raising Character Ranks (Rank 6, 16, 28, 48) 3. Buying the monthly Stamp Bundle (370yen) (3 per bundle/month)

Raising all the characters to CR 6 is very easy, and can give you at least 36 stamp tickets to use. You can either use it to buy all of your oshi stamps, or buy whatever you think is cute. Here is a translation of all the shop stamps, by this person on discord (it’s a google docs link). If you want to raise character ranks quickly, then buy every single stamp of your oshi.

Is it worth it to pay real money to buy more tickets?

Well it’s your money... You decide.

Welcome to Sekai’s shopping mall! You can buy clothes (left side) and stamps (right side) for your favourite oshi. It’s not necessarily to buy them, but they are so damn cute I just have to splurge. Also they help increase Character Ranks a lot.

Open the stamp store, and choose your favourite stamps. Each stamp costs 1 stamp ticket. You can get stamp tickets by reaching Character Ranks (6, 16, 28, 48), buying them from the Event store (1 per event), or buying the monthly stamp pack (3 each).

Tap on the store and choose the outfit you want. Locked outfits are unlocked by obtaining the respective 4* cards they originally belong to. Each alternate colour is a separate outfit. To unlock and buy alternate colours of 4* costumes, you need to increase the Master Rank of that specific 4*.

You’ll need 300 pieces of cloth and 30 thread. You can farm them while playing lives, so you don’t need to waste your real money to buy them! (unless you just want to whale for your oshi)

The max limit for each character’s Character Rank is 55 outfits. Remember, each colour is considered a different outfit, so there is enough clothes for everyone! If there isn’t, the developers will release more soon, don’t worry. It’s gonna take you forever to get 55 outfits anyway.
