Because I’ve been to comic stores all across the country, and quite a few of them give off the vibe of ‘gross man cave.’ No duh you don’t see women in a place like that. Hell, I’m a dude and I don’t usually like going to stores like that.

And in the 2000s-2010s, I made sure to avoid mentioning being autistic or Hispanic on any comic book forum sites, because I knew I would be bombarded by Mexican slang jokes (even though I’m not Mexican) and the r-slur. So it’s not that non-white, non-male, non-straight comic fans and nerds didn’t exist until the 2010s-2020s. It’s that they stayed the hell away from places that were openly hostile or creepy to them.

Am I onto something or am I just talking out of my ass?

Neglectful parents aren't going to stop being neglectful when their kids are locked out of the internet.

The parents that everyone bemoans when age verification is brought up aren't going to suddenly start watching their kids.

Same for helicopter parents. They aren't going to stop being helicopter parents and complaining about things they think their children shouldn't see. They're just going to go back to saying the same stuff about other things.

Age verification will not stop helicopter/controlling parents. Age verification will not stop neglectful parents. Age verification will not keep kids from 'seeing stuff they "shouldn't" see'.

It's just gonna lead to the same song and dance that's happened for ages, except this time kids aren't going to just....go to other spaces because (at least where I am) they don't got those.

It'll just lead to kids being more crafty or lead to them doing what the parents from when those 'have you seen your children today' advertisements were a thing did.

That is, go places they shouldn't. Do dangerous shit they shouldn't.

It'll also just lead to rising mental health issues and in some cases, children not being able to reach out for help/support systems.

this is not life-threatening, but also who wants weeks of diarrhea and a fucking parasite in them lol. if you suspect you've already had this and it's passed, i would see a doctor. you might need an antiparasitic anyway. if you're actively sick, see a doctor and they might be able to prescribe medication to help you get over it faster.

try to avoid eating raw vegetables, scrub fruit with a produce brush and rinse thoroughly with water. again, don't bother with premade greens or bagged salads. if you buy lettuce, remove the outer 2-3 layers of leaves.

Call after hours and leave a message. Call during office hours if you feel up to it, but do something. Call every day. Email every day. Fucking bother your rep. They work for you, not the other way around.

Your single call is not the point. The point is the aggregate of calls and emails. The point is that even "safe" Republicans don't feel really safe right now. The point is that "safe" Democrats are feeling pressure from the left due to the success of DSA candidates. You think they won't listen, and they'll probably try to make you think they're not, but they do, in the aggregate.
