Hi everyone! This is an illustrated guide I made as part of my co-admining work at The Middle Eastern Feminist on Facebook! It will be published there shortly. The technique that is displayed here is a genuine one used in psychology - I forgot the name and couldn’t find it again so if you know about it, feel free to tell me! Some could say: “Yes but you can use that technique for instances of harassment other than Islamophobic attacks!”, and my reply is: Sure! Please do so, it also works for other “types” of harassment of a lone person in a public space!! However I’m focusing on protecting Muslims here, as they have been very specific targets lately, and as a French Middle Eastern woman, I wanted to try and do something to raise awareness on how to help when such things happen before our eyes - that way one cannot say they “didn’t know what to do”! I’d like to insist on two things: 1) Do not, in any way, interact with the attacker. You must absolutely ignore them and focus entirely on the person being attacked! 2) Please make sure to always respect the wishes of the person you’re helping: whether they want you to leave quickly afterwards, or not! If you’re in a hurry escort them to a place where someone else can take over - call one of their friends, or one of yours, of if they want to, the police. It all depends on how they feel! For my fellow French-speakers: I will translate it in French and post it on my page as soon as I can :) Please don’t hesitate to share this guide as it could push a lot of people to overcome bystander syndrome!! Lots of love and stay safe! PS: I you repost this cartoon of mine on twitter or instagram, please add me in the post so I can see it, with @itsmaeril :)
An important reminder today, and every day.
This is based off of the Non-Complementary technique in psychology - also known as ‘flipping the script’.
It is a legitimate tactic for defusing a situation that could otherwise escalate to become quite nasty.
People instinctively reciprocate anger with anger and kindness with kindness, but what happens when someone breaks this ‘complementary be
anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven't fully internalized this.

Legend of Dragoon Playstation 1999
i get why people don't believe in marriage as a social construct but legally it is the best and easiest way to say "this is who i trust to take care of me when i can't take care of myself" and i'm so glad gay people fought for that right bc when shit gets scary at least i know im in good hands
reminder that you cannot call people or things "retarded" around me. we will have a conversation where I explain that I can still tell you the names of 62 people for which I was legally responsible. I will tell you that I loved them
and you will feel like you were being an asshole and wonder why you don't just stop saying it altogether. me too.
if we're friends, you can call me a faggot. there can be a lot of tenderness in that. I got beat up and bullied and just generally treated like a detestable freak by people who called me that word while they did it. hearing it spoken by a loved voice, with clear affection, can be beautiful. it can feel like understanding, forgiveness, absolution, permission, and a thousand other wonderful things. it can be beautiful.
I got called retarded too, but we don't share any special insight into that. it's just a word to us. pick a different one.
a lady with a developmental disability once explained to me that she'd overheard some kids calling each other retarded in the mall we'd visited earlier that day. searching for something to say that might comfort her, I explained that they don't know anything about people like her and so they weren't really talking about her, just being ignorant.
she got angry and said "then they need to pick a different word". and so you need to pick a different word.
don't think this is exclusive to public spaces like the mall or the park or whatever either. she has a tablet and access to the internet, just the same as you do. she can read, write, and make her own decisions. she has a husband.
you don't know anything about her, you need to stop talking about her. pick a different word.
these restrictions are really getting out of hand. Every single invention i've submitted to the mad scientist symposium this year has been denied on the grounds it 'could be used for fetish material'! What the fuck man! A shrink ray and a mind control helmet are like the most foundational mad scientist devices and now I'm not allowed to submit them to the symposium on the off chance someone is turned on by them? Whats next? Banning strapping your rival to a table and threatening them with a big laser? Banning the glowing green mystery chemical that turns you into a big monster? Soon they're gonna be banning lab coats and shiny black gloves!
senior/elderly nonbinary people. I adore you and you make the world a better place. whether you've known for multiple decades or you just found out last year. thank you for just Being. so much love from me.
GAUGEHAHAH????

hi i am crying. i love you trans women ❤
ID: a reddit post in the subreddit "mtf" by user @.apotatomassacre. "My 84 year old Navajo grandmother gave me one of her bracelets (that my silversmith grandfather made for her in the 50s) after seeing me as myself for the first time. It was one of the pinnacle moments of my transition and definitely made me cry.
i came out to my grandma at the beginning of the year over the phone. She really didn't (and I knew) know what transgender was or anything but this past weekend, we were able to see each other in person for the first time since i started my transition. For being 84 years old, the chat went as great as it could have gone! She caught me as I was leaving and she gave me a silver bracelet with turquoise and coral stones. She told me that this style is what Navajo women wear.
I was speechless as she barely learned what transgender was just minutes earlier. I cried for the entire drive home." End ID
@this-is-trans-joy absolutely heart wrenchingly joyful post

Hey guys things got really serious here and I'm freaking out because we had to get rid of some of our belongings since we couldn't drag them around, plus we don't have a Lyft. It's hot and my asthma is acting up.
I never imagined I’d be in this position, but I’m reaching out because my mom, our three… Benji Y needs your support for Help Us Find Safety
I had to make another gofundme, nothing we are doing is helping and relatives won't help us and let us stay stranded outside. It's hot and there are no hotels that are cheap this weekend. Again we don't have any open shelters. The rest is in the link.
I'm sorry again but I'm in need of a lot of help and this time it's dire. Mostly for my mental health. I've spiraled so hard this morning I want it to stop.
So please help me, I've been crying for hours.
Please everyone I need help spreading this gofundme as much as possible. This time I am desperate and begging to show this to as many people as you can.
My health is getting worse and my asthma attack this morning proves it. I also have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an ongoing, progressive lung condition that restricts airflow, making it hard to breathe. And I have no way to get to a Lyft to go to urgent care. I'm wheezing and coughing up mucus and blood.
This is serious and I'm afraid my life will be on the line if I can't take care of it admittedly, it's really scary and I don't want anymore harm to me, or worse. It's even hard to sleep without wheezing.
PLEASE KEEP BOOSTING
