“And if you want to,” he continues, “I’d really like to…talk.”  Mel feels like her heart could give out at any moment. The emotional rollercoaster of the last minute has been so intense that she’s not sure her heart is even keeping up anymore, even beating at all.  “I’d love that,” she says eagerly, placing a hand on her heart just to feel—thump thump, thump thump, thump thump. She’s still here, heart still beating, and Frank is also here. Thumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthump.  “I have to get back,” she winces regretfully. “But you can stay and watch, if you’d like?” Stay, please. Stay, stay, stay.  Frank smiles widely—teeth and dimples and laugh lines and Mel’s not sure if she ever got over him in the first place, but she’s definitely not over him now. “I’d love that,” he says, his voice cracking adorably.  “Okay then,” Mel beams. “I’ll see you later?”  Frank gives her a toothy, lopsided grin, and her heart kicks. “You’ll see me later.”

the kingdon Notting Hill au, 54k, 2/3

“I was going to call first, I swear,” Mel says, a little embarrassed, “but something came up, and I just needed…” Mel trails off as he makes eye contact with her. His eyes are just as blue as she remembers, but there’s a bit more weariness to his countenance, a little grey at his temples, more laugh lines around his eyes. He’s absolutely shocked to see her, that much is clear, but there’s a tiredness that sits in his body, even through the shock.   Maybe he’s been just as sad as she has been.  “I wanted to see you,” she finishes, and she watches the air rush out of him.  “It’s good to see you,” he sighs, his voice cracking in the middle. “I was wondering if maybe you wanted to talk?” she asks hesitantly. “Yeah, yes,” Frank says quickly, nodding. “I’d love to.”
