idk I think it says a lot that when both Spike and Angel are at rock bottom (Spike after Seeing Red, Angel on Reprise), they both chose to end their current state of being with very different intentions. angel wanted to lose his soul because he was in despair and he couldn't bear the weight anymore, not caring that if he succeeds he is putting everyone he loves, especially buffy, in harm's way. meanwhile spike wants to get his soul so that he would never be the type of man who could harm buffy. one was a moral agent, with a conscience, and the other soulless. but only one made the actual morally correct choice.
angel's struggle: "what's the point of having a soul?" spike's struggle: "how can I become worthy of one?"

Hello and welcome to Finwëan Ladies Week!
September 21-27, 2026
This is a week-long event celebrating the ladies of the line of Finwë! There have been events within the Silmarillion fandom focused on the sons of Finwë and their descendents, and to add to the fun this week was established to give his wives, daughters, and other female descendants their own time to shine.
This year, Finwëan Ladies Week will run from September 21-27, 2026!
Any content and creations about the ladies of Finwë’s line are welcome! You can create edits, gifs, fanart, fanfic, fanmixes, and more!
Please tag your posts with #finweanladiesweek in the first 20 tags AND @ mention this blog @finweanladiesweek so they can be easily found. If your submission turns into a long post, please put what you can beneath a “Keep reading” divider. You may also post your creations to our AO3 collection.
Below are some prompts for each day of the week. They are not mandatory, but they are here to inspire you. This page will lead to a detailed explanation for each one.

DAY TWO: Findis and Írimë Lalwen
DAY THREE: Aredhel and Galadriel
DAY FOUR: Later Generations
DAY FIVE: Ladies Who Married In

just in case anyone forgot how wildly colorful Georgian interiors could be, even among the working class to the wealthy:
and EVEN WHEN things were more muted/neutral, the neutrality was OFFSET by ACCENT COLORS and HIGH CONTRAST between the wood tones and everything ELSE
ALSO AMERICAN COLONIAL INTERIORS POPPED OFF, Y'ALL (IN TERMS OF COLOR/COZINESS)
PEOPLE USED WHITEWASH AND COLORFUL TRIM OR EVEN JUST COLORFUL FURNITURE IF THEY COULD AFFORD TO DO SO
AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON FRENCH AND BRITISH AND AMERICAN WALLPAPERS
"ELIZABETH" YOU CRY, "WHY ARE YOU BEING SO EXTRA THIS MORNING?! IT'S MONDAY"
Because, my friend, my war on GREIGE will NEVER end.
Historic interiors were filled with LIFE and LIGHT and COLOR. ALWAYS HAVE BEEN.
Part of the reason we don't see a lot of textile art is because, frankly, textiles tend to degrade over time - especially ones that had utility! And yes, pigments and weaving and dying all boosted the expense of things, when we were finally reliably block-printing fabrics and broad reams of paper, it was no longer just the wealthy who could afford pretty patterns!
In the Americas, a far wider variety of pigments also became available because of the abundance of... well, a shitton of flora and minerals, some of which weren't as common in Europe.
WHY THE HIGHLIGHTER COLORS? you ask.
CANDLES.
Those colors reflect candlelight and natural sunlight REALLY WELL.
Humans LOVE bright colors, it's NOT just a thing for kids. We live in a brilliant, vibrant, multifaceted world. We ALWAYS have.
(STOP MAKING YOUR HISTORIC SIMS 4 BUILDS BE BLAND. STOP IT.)
On the subject of Colonial America: don't forget, even if you couldn't afford wallpaper, wall stenciling might still be in reach!
(If ever you have the opportunity to visit the Stencil House at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont (pictured above at 3, 4, and 5), I highly recommend.)
And that's before you get into American painted murals:
Embrace the decorative arts, folks!
THE DARKNESS AND THE STAR, T
Faramir undertakes the Quest of the Ring. Behind him in Minas Tirith he leaves his brother and his brother's wife Éowyn.
“Do not touch the water!” Lady Galadriel warns. Faramir tears himself from the water’s embrace. His face is not wet, and the water is still and undisturbed. But he can feel sweat prickling on his scalp and the back of his neck, and he is breathing as heavily as if he has run all the way through all of those visions. “It is not given that all you see will come to pass,” Lady Galadriel says, watching him closely and not without sympathy. “For good or for evil.” “Some that I saw was good,” Faramir says. He does not elaborate, although he is almost sure that she knows what he saw. Perhaps she too has seen Éowyn in her Mirror. It would explain much. “Some was evil. Some of it has already come to pass, some - I cannot say. How is one to know which is true?” “That comes with time,” Lady Galadriel says. “It cannot be told from the water itself.” Faramir ponders that in silence. It is impossible to know whether she means that one can only wait and see which visions are true, or that experience teaches one. She might mean both. “You saw much that gave you pain,” Lady Galadriel observes. “Yet you will not stray from your purpose.” “I will not,” Faramir replies, though it was not a question. If there is anything he can do to save Éowyn or his city from the battle that is to come, it will be done with the Fellowship. This is their best chance of destroying Sauron, and Éowyn would not thank him for abandoning it now. May the fate he saw in the Mirror never come for her. He thinks uneasily of the day he named her Emeldir, though. The ring of steel that accompanied the name. “I did not think so,” Lady Galadriel says. The water shivers. But all that it reflects is Eärendil’s star in the first pink light of the dawn.
