Finally getting around to making an introductory post. Hi! I’m a non-binary fanfiction and original fiction writer, and I use they/them pronouns. This is primarily a Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom blog devoted to writing, reblogging fanart, and my enduring love of and fascination with Ryou Bakura. Also any other character named Bakura.

My Writing

I mostly write Yu-Gi-Oh! fic, usually involving Ryou Bakura, Yami Bakura, Thief King Bakura, and occasionally Marik, Yami Marik (called Yamima or Amir), and Aigami (Diva). I tend to write psychological drama, dark fantasy, horror, unhealthy relationships, and characters trying to recover while still making objectively terrible choices.

The main things I’m working on are:

Chiaroscuro AU (Ongoing)

A Ryou-centric AU about Light, Darkness, the Millennium Items, and the aftermath of canon. Also mental illness. A lot of mental illness.

The series starts with A Day in the Life of Ryou Bakura and continues through Recovery, One Wish, and A Story Told (By the Victors).

Records of the Blackwood (Complete)

A dark fae AU about Bakura wandering off the path and ending up trapped in a magical forest with Ryou, who thinks he would be much cuter as a swan.

The main series is Swan Lake, Diabound, and Swan Prince, with a few shorter side stories. There’s captivity, transformation, fae folklore, and unhealthy devotion.

Host (Ongoing)

An urban fantasy horror fic where Ryou is forced into a summoning ritual and becomes the vessel of Zorc Necrophades.

This one has gods, vampires, dragons, possession, body horror, supernatural bonds, polyamory, and a whole boatload of emotional breakdowns.

I also write one-shots, gift fics, prompt fics, crossovers, and whatever AU catches my fancy.

Common themes include autonomy, identity, codependency, recovery, moral ambiguity, tenderness by terrible people, and Ryou Bakura being loved in ways that may or may not be good for him.

Blog information

This is an adult fandom space. My writing may contain mature themes, horror, abuse, coercion, captivity, mental illness, trauma, unhealthy relationships, and other potentially disturbing material. Individual works contain more specific warnings.

Exploring something in fiction is not the same as endorsing it in reality. I enjoy analysing difficult subjects and relationships without reducing them to examples of either perfect morality or irredeemable evil.

Thoughtful discussion, questions, and good-faith disagreement are welcome. Harassment, purity policing, ship discourse, and attempts to dictate what others are permitted to explore in fiction are not.

Starting with the more canon-adjacent traits:

Marik is proud, theatrical, intelligent, and manipulative. He reads a situation quickly, figures out what someone wants, and changes his approach to match. He treats conflict like a game. (And it kind of is. This is Yugioh, after all.) Games have rules, hidden motives, opportunities to bluff, and usually some theoretical way to win.

Marik is also cruel. Not randomly cruel, and not only because of Yami Marik. He understands where people are vulnerable and is willing to use that knowledge. His cruelty is usually personal. He wants the other person to know that he understands exactly where they are vulnerable and has chosen to use it against them. At the same time, he has limits. The fact that he can recognize those limits and choose not to cross them is one of the meaningful differences between him and Yamima.
