in Pegasus's flashback sequence he very consistently describes Shadi as a "boy," which would imply that Shadi is like his age or younger, which doesn't seem to gel with the timeline at all, but then again the entire village we see in that sequence may not actually exist, and I was about to type out so many bullet points to figure this out before catching myself about to fall into the precipice of Shadi Deeplore. we will not being entering that chasm. so either shadi is using crazy illusion magic to mess with this one rich white kid even moreso than I previously believed OR shadi became an adoptive single father of seven at like 19 years old and honestly either would track completely
telling him your favourite card like giving your name to a faerie
will a sinner like you go to heaven

baby boy. baby
during the scene where Shadi is about to shove an ancient artifact into the eye socket of a random unsuspecting tourist from Nevada he has a little exchange with the other tombkeeper like "Until we find suitable hosts for the artifacts we have, we can't go find the missing items!" which suggests that once Shadi and co. finished foisting the cursed objects they already had on randos they very conciously planned to go hunt down the Ishtars and steal their shit. presumably to do the same thing with the rod and the necklace. very fun alternate timeline to imagine

still crazy that Pegasus is 24. he should not be living in a castle on a private island stealing people's souls he should be the most annoying guy in UCLA's art program

its just funny to me that not only is Yami Bakura shown as computer proficient but that due to happenstance and time period he is one of the only characters ever shown to be computer proficient. it's a good quality for the ancient spirit inside a cursed artifact to have. who taught him that
obviously (obviously) Jonouchi's professional dueling career is going to end with him winning some absolutely stupid dice or roulette roll at the last possible moment for an insane cash prize and being a casual gazillionaire who somehow still lives in a two-bedroom apartment. this is just true and inevitable. however i do think an additional/alternate endgame is a world where upon Grandpa's retirement everyone solemnly realizes that Yugi is way too busy being a gamedev and quite frankly just doesn't have the soul of a money-grubbing small business owner but it's fine because Sugaroku already has what amounts to a second grandson. and so Jonouchi gets the store.
you know if you think about it Kaiba is the reason the series is the way it is. yugi didn't have any particular connection to Duel Monsters in the series until the one-off chapter with Kaiba. and his autism was so powerful that it not only essentially warped the entire world around his special interest but created a centuries spanning universal obsession with his favorite card game
anyway i guess moral of the story is, believe in the power of autism

something very beautiful about how introductory Cards With Teeth Kaiba spends so much time pretending to be nice and polite and smiley and the actual semi-redeemed Kaiba we get to know later is a blunt unpleasant jackass. i like that less evil Kaiba is a noticeably more difficult to get along with Kaiba, and the narrative rejection of "good = niceness, social skills" that implies. sometimes getting the evil banished from your heart involves becoming more of a bitch. guy who stopped masking
