"I've got tickets no one is using if you'd ever like to come to a game on Thursday?"

"I-uh." Frank swallows through a nervous chuckle. Tanner Scott is sitting on a gurney while Frank stitches up a nasty gash in his leg. Tanner Scott. Y'know, pitcher for the LA Dodgers and a good forty percent of the reason Frank's son is named Tanner.

Tanner Scott who has maybe been flirting with Frank since they met twenty minutes ago. Maybe?

"If you don't mind playing traitor to the Pirates for day." Tanner winks at him. Winks. Definitely flirting. His easy smirk and those eyes sweeping the length of Frank's body aren't subtle.

Frank and Robby have a shared day off on Thursday. They were gonna get pizza and watch the game from the comfort of their couch. Frank would listen to Robby grumble at the tv and they'd either celebrate or mourn with some extended, rare-day-off-together sex.

But Tanner Scott was offering tickets. A great view, probably. A day spent in the Pittsburgh sun eating stadium hotdogs. They were both Dodgers fans. Robby would eat it up.

Frank put on his best normal guy smile and looked up from his work. "That's a generous offer."

"No worries. It'll help my game to be looking up at you instead of empty seats." Tanner shrugs one shoulder and pulls his phone out of the pocket of his jeans. "Gimme your number and I'll text you the details. How many tickets you need?"

Frank can feel a flush spreading down his neck. Hopefully Tanner won't be too disappointed when he drops the news, "Uh, two? My partner is a big fan of yours."

"Damn." Tanner shakes his head and sighs, but he's still smiling. "All the good ones really are taken already."

It startles another laugh out of Frank and it's loud enough that a couple heads turn just beyond the open curtain surrounding them. "I would apologize, but that feels dishonest." He finishes up the the last suture and snaps his gloves off his wrists as he stands. "I'm flattered, though. Truly."

Tanner waves him off. "Least I can do for patching me up. Might even be able to grab a jersey for your partner as an apology gift for hitting on you."

Does anyone else have the problem of they'll start writing a fic, getting to a certain point and then hitting a complete wall and no matter what, they can't seem to write it or make it work, and it will rot forever until all of a sudden you write like twelve chapters in a row for it and then it has to rot forever again?

I have like fifty half-finished fics on Ao3, where I want to update them, I really fucking do, but I cant. I try and my whole brain goes blank and I'll force it but then I hate it and I delete the whole thing, the entire fic, and then have to retrieve it out of the trash like a month later, and I don't know how to get over it.

AND THE GUILT? How do you handle the guilt of not updating when people are asking for it, or asking if the work has been abandoned and again, I want to update it, but it turns into flight, fight, freeze when I try and I just shut down?

Also does anyone have the problem of doing a bunch of new fics because if you don't write it down and send an idea out into the universe it's all you can think of? Like I'll wake up at three in the morning with a plot point for a new fick I thought of three days before and it's all I can work on until the hyperfixation ends?

I know I'm ADD and a bit crazy, but I'm not alone, right? Does anyone deal with that?

So like... Same, first of all. I have like 20-30 fics in the work right now, outside of the one I am posting. Some I started working before season 2 of the Pitt started.

Honestly I avoid posting stuff I am not done with, at least, drafting the main "plot" because I don't want to deal with the guilt of having put something out and no delivering afterwards. But that's not for everyone because to some it doesn't stimulate them enough to continue writing.

Also remember that it's firstly for you. There is a reason asking/pressuring a fanfic author is not well seen in our circles. You are offering something to the world. For free and out of passion. you are allowed to do it at your own pace.

As for tips...:

- I find juggling different fics at the same time helpful because when I hit a wall, I can at least switch to another work.

- Changing POV can help a lot for me. If I have a block with one character, I ask myself "ok. But n was there too, how did he experienced what happened and what are his thoughts?" (Which is also why I struggle more when I have locked myself into a one POV only)

- "worldbuilding" can help the same way. When you go like "ok, so I decided to have n do this. But what does that mean about and for the world around him. Is it ok? Or illegal? Or frown upon? If it's not okay but not illegal, what does that say about n? Are they an asshole? Or a revolutionary? Or progressist? If he is a progressist, then that also - in turn - says something about the world, etc etc... " And like... Most of the time that's not some big, long process like it might sound when I write it. It takes me a few minutes to maybe 30min and it has often really advanced my stories.

And yes, I also wake up having to write something because if I don't do it, the entire idea will be lost by the time I wake up again 😅 I once wrote an entire fic in my head while I was in the OR, waiting for one of my surgeons to be done with the samples I would bring to Bacteriology (it can take 1hour between the 1st and last sample) and promptly forgot all about it by the time I was out.

As for the guilt... You need to keep doing this because you like it, and firstly for yourself. You are not a professional supposed to release a book under contract. You are under no deadline. Love what you do, whether you finish it or not or you will lose the passion and what was once a well of joy will be torture to you. Try to see it as a the journey is the destination kind of thing. The point is not the end. The point is the fun you have creating it.
