Notes on the request closure: I'll be leaving asks/submissions open for the ask games I like to play - which may include prompt games like the kiss fic meme - but any further fic requests will be rejected at this time until I'm ready to start accepting them again. I just have quite a backlog of requests at the moment and would like to spend time focusing on the requests I've already got before adding any more to the todo list.

Worf getting his back broken by a container that does not look (or sound) heavy

There's a lot to say about medical ethics and the ethics of suicide in this episode. And I really don't think it does a great job. But... it does better than Worf's parenting skills. (Sorry, not sorry. He is so bad at parenting.)

I do think the guest star Doctor needs to be investigated for malpractice over that one patient that died when she used the experimental treatment instead of the traditional one. A board of inquiry might decide her use of an experimental treatment was justified but it's doubtful.

... does the Federation have a concept of malpractice???? O_o

And Beverly is a good doctor right up until she starts making decisions for her patients that she doesn't have the right to be making for them just because she wouldn't feel being paralyzed is cause for suicide. So Worf should just. Get over it. Because she thinks she would.

Honestly, Will had every right to be pissed off at Worf for trying to commit a suicide ritual involving Will's help while ducking the actual details of the ritual (has to be done by the eldest son, not a good friend) but Beverly needed to take a step back and recognize that 'do no harm' can also mean not imposing her cultural beliefs on her patient.

I want to get back into the habit of this but it might take a while before I do. At any rate. It's Sunday. Sentences be upon ye. :D

Barry can be a little oblivious sometimes. Not to say he’s self absorbed but he’s also not one to pay a lot of attention to strangers around him. Which is why when he gets down on one knee at Jitters and proposes to Iris at the same coffee table where they had their first date, it’s the happiest moment of his life so far. Because she said yes. Enthusiastically. So he doesn’t notice the blonde man in the back who watches in shock. In anger. And with growing resolution.

Gee, I wonder who this angry blonde man might be. And what he could be resolved to do. (This is from the fake arranged marriage AU I mentioned last night. Which I also started writing last night. hehehehe) The end goal is Westhallen here, but Eobard has to make a nuisances of himself first before Eddie even gets to meet Barry and Iris.

I'm including Laurel as a marriage law lawyer (amongst her many other specialties no doubt) because if I'm gonna have Barry and Iris consult a lawyer why would I pick anyone else?

My Jay/Tim supernatural AU has slowed progress down again, I think I jinxed myself. But I'll share a little of that here too.

At least Sheila wasn’t a ghost with him. No she’d passed on to whatever hell would have her after handing her son over to the fucking Joker. Bitch. Okay, so Jason was more than a little bitter about the kind of person his bio mom turned out to be. He’d deserved better than that. He’d deserved a lot better. But this was what Jason had. A house where his father couldn’t see him and his grandfather wouldn’t play go between for reasons that didn’t make any sense to Jason and an estranged brother whose temper was once again getting in the way of what Jason needed.

No superheroes AU with spiritual powers and ghosts on top. Bruce is a powerful spirit medium who helps with the police... or he was until Jason's murder at the hands of the Joker caused a psychological his powers. Much to ghost!Jason's irritation.

And while it'll be quite a long time before this goes far enough to actually post a fic for it, the full on Flash Arrow Full Cast Role Swap AU, lol. In which Barry is the Arrow (or will be anyway) and Iris is somehow both Laurel and Tommy as the Barry's bestie and unrequited crush.

“You sure about this?” Iris asked, giving the yacht a dubious look. “It’ll be fine, what’s the worst that could happen?” Barry retorted, rolling his eyes and knowing very well his best friend (and long time unrequited crush) would tell him exactly that. “You could find out too late you get sea sick for starters,” Iris replied. “Or that Becky isn’t the girl for you with nowhere to get away from her.” Well, Barry already knew Becky wasn’t the girl for him. And he wasn’t really the guy for her. But they were having fun together and that was good enough for a college romance in both their opinions. They both knew this wasn’t a relationship meant to last when they got into it.

Becky is doomed by the narrative (or is she? lol, if I ever get this AU into S2 Arrow territory, might she reappear as a shadow assassin???) and Barry's tempting fate. What's the worst that could happen? Stranded on an island perhaps? Paramilitary smuggler assholes shooting at him for having moral principles maybe? Long lost WW2 super soldier programs gone terribly wrong? And so so much more.

The intended ships thus far are Westhawn and Barrisco, as Iris will have met and fallen in love with Eddie Thawne while Barry was lost at sea. And of course Barry will be meeting Cisco after returning from his ordeal, over the course of setting himself up as a vigilante. Eobard will get to swap into Malcolm Merlyn's role, as Eddie's genocidal uncle who will be trying to take vengeance for the death of his beloved Jay Allen (Barry's uncle and cheerfully stolen from the 90s Flash where he was that Barry's brother, always doomed by the narrative poor Jay Allen) by blaming the murder on the entire social class in the Glades to justify himself.

That's the skeleton of the story I've got so far anyway.

And last, back over to the Batfam, another fic I'm leaning towards Jay/Tim on, but is mostly focused on Tim figuring out who he wants to be. It's an AU where Jason didn't die when the Joker tried to kill him and so Tim never became Robin. Instead he eventually put more effort trying to make his parents proud of him, only for them to constantly let him down.

Tim graduated high school at sixteen, having done everything his parents wanted. He skipped two grades and struggled socially but had near perfect grades which they nitpicked on but… they seemed proud of him. In their distant way. Smiling benevolently from afar and breaking promises to be there for his birthday or thanksgiving or new years or… But graduation was supposed to be different. They’d talked for weeks about the photo op potential and how Tim was lined up for MIT which would make a great talking point for them in interviews and… and somewhere in there they were excited for him. He was sure of it. But they aren’t there in the morning. They aren’t there when Tim has to leave or risk being late and not walking the stage. They aren’t there when Tim looks into the crowd hoping to see them in their empty seats.

Riker making her take off her religious earring, Picard and others not even bothering to learn about her culture while expecting her respect in the face of their disrespectful ignorance

Like, seriously, there are human cultures that do family name first, personal name second - there's no way there aren't other species that do it too. Picard being surprised by Ro wanting to be called Ensign Ro and not Ensign Laren shouldn't have happened.

To Picard's credit - here and other time he's called out for perpetuating a prejudice - he does immediately correct himself and apologize and try to do better.

But it's really disappointing the way the crew - the main cast - is treating her right now. I know they improve - Ro becomes their friend and valued coworker in time, a couple of my favorite episodes are ones with her in them - and of course it doesn't help that the Admiral is using her for his own ends at this point but it's still frustrating.

You Must Live (For Me) my first Saverb fic ^_^

🏴‍☠️ Were there any points in which your characters tried (or succeeded) to commit mutiny against your planned plot? Where did they most want to rebel?

So originally I really wanted to kind of... have my cake and eat it too I suppose. I wanted to have Savitar get his happily ever after with Reverb but also not have Iris die. There's still hints of that in the fic I think, with Savitar's first conversation with Reverb where he talks about wanting to give them both new choices.

But I also knew that if I couldn't figure out a good alternate choice for Savitar, that Iris was gonna have to die and I proceeded writing on the assumption that I'd be killing her. So this wasn't really a mutiny exactly, just the characters kind of making it clear that I needed to stop with the wishful thinking about finding a compromise that would save Iris too.

Reverb was the one who pretty much laid down the line. He wanted Savitar to live at whatever cost. Iris wasn't really anyone to him except the person he feared Savitar might still be in love with - he wasn't going to accept Iris surviving or Savitar's hesitance. I think even if I had figured out a good way to save Iris, he would have refused for sure - there'd have been a mutiny then.

🥇 What scene were you most excited to write? Did it end up being the one you enjoyed writing the most?

Once I had the idea for Reverb designing Savitar's suit I got really excited to write it and it was definitely a favorite. But I think at the outset I was most excited to write Reverb learning to use his powers against speedsters. I'd initially wanted to have him use them on Barry at some point, but it didn't work out, which was a shame but definitely didn't fit by the time the fic was starting to wrap up.

🔮Have you imagined what happens to [character(s)] in the future? Or does the story only exist to you as a moment in time?

I do think Reverb will get that fight with Barry at some point, though if Eobard gets involved then Savitar will have to speed Reverb out of there. Given the best place for that fight to happen is either during or just before the Red Skies Crisis and this was a timeline where Eobard was still involved, I do think Eobard would run in to save Barry because no one gets to kill him except Eobard, lol.

But I think overall Savitar and Reverb are enjoying exploring their powers, expanding their now-shared worshiper base, and being super in love. They do go save Killer Frost from imprisonment (probably when the fight with Barry happens) and she spends time on and off with them but isn't really interested in leaving E1 when they go off gallivanting through other realities.

As far as they're concerned, they're growing closer and closer to being gods and take what they want. Jay does not like them on his Earth but by the time he runs into them they're powerful enough that there's not much he - or most anyone else - can really do about them.

I wish there'd been someone to talk to him about aromanticism. Guinan's advice isn't awful, but there's some amatonormativity in there that's not surprising but unfortunate. Geordi makes good points about Jenna not being in a great place for a new relationship given her prev relationship with Jeff isn't in a good place. But I appreciate him ultimately going 'ask someone who isn't me and can give better advice'. Deanna makes good points too about how Data needs to be himself and not treat the relationship like an experiment if he does pursue a relationship.

Love Worf going 'if anyone were to hurt Jenna, I would be very... unhappy about it' and Data going '........ I understand'. lol

Riker's advice was really good. Data points out that he can't reciprocate Jenna's feelings but Will is just kind of like 'romantic feelings aren't necessary to undertake and enjoy being in a romantic relationship. Not in those exact words, but Will clearly thinks Data can enjoy a romantic relationship for the sake of enjoying the experience.

(Picard - if I had advice to give you I would... but I don't.)

And I think Data could too? Though not with Jenna. She has a lot of expectations for a romantic relationship and how someone should engage in it and her reaction to Data saying he's written a program all about learning to be a good boyfriend for her says it all. The relationship was never going work out. Jenna needs reciprocation in order to to have her emotional needs met. Data needs a companion who is more of a parallel play type, not a 'give me all your attention' type.

He's trying so hard too, and it sucks because she's the one who isn't appreciating him for himself. And she doesn't appreciate his efforts to try and meet her expectations either. Because he can't stop being himself and he can't feel romance for her.

(Also, Miles needs to pick up his own damn socks. Keiko should have told him to do it instead of constantly cleaning up after him. Or stopping without telling him the problem first. But that's just. A side complaint. Stop weaponizing incompetence Miles, pick up your damn socks.)

i know those were retconned in for DS9 to have drama but it's still funny that Odan is just like... skirting the rules because if no other Trill knows they've been courting Beverly in three hosts then it's fine right?

Loved Deanna encouraging Beverly to pursue Odan while Odan was possessing Will. I've been interpreting Deanna/Will as being in an open relationship while on the Enterprise (starting somewhere in S1 after finally talking out how things ended the last time around) so it had 'i want us to be metamours' vibes but also Deanna comparing her dead father to Beverly's situation made it intensely weird because of course she can't talk about getting a second chance with Will after they parted ways all those years ago. When. You know. Beverly's love interest is sort of kind of not really Will for the next half hour.

Anyway while Beverly's reaction to seeing the new Trill host for Odan had some 'i'm too straight for this' vibes to it, I do like the final scene with her and Odan because I can mostly buy that Beverly is being honst about it not being an incompatible orientation issue. I do think she's being very closed minded about things - like... actually talk to Odan maybe about how common host changes like that actually are? She knew so little about Trill at the start of the episode so fact finding should have been on her agenda if she really felt that serious about Odan as she thought she was at the start.

Which, to be fair, shows she wasn't that serious after all and it was infatuation and not love. But still.

All that said, her reaction to Odan kissing her wrist one last time is what really clinched it for me that it's honestly not Odan's being a woman now that bothers Beverly. That maybe if Odan had gone straight into this lady with no pit stop in Will that maybe Beverly would have been all for exploring a bi for gender fluid worm in a host romance after all.
