I need to get this dynamic out of my head but i dont have a fic i can put it in, so Iâm just gonna put it here.
Anyway, have some touch-starved bloodymary with aroallo grace, who feels very guilty (read: internalized aroallo-phobia) for wanting intimate touch without romantic love.
(but then Simon starts asking for the things Grace wants so desperately, without asking for the love he cannot give and its all good i promise)
--
Its nice, being held like this.
Simon must have agreed with me, because weâve been laying here long enough to start losing track of time.
âAre⊠platonic cuddles just this, or am I allowed to move?â He murmered, my hair moving with each puff of his breath.
I cringed internally at the term. It came out of my mouth when I was trying to ask - very casually - for a hug, but instead what had come out was something along the lines of;
âItâs fine if you don't want to, its just a hug, just a platonic hug, it doesn't have to mean anything, actually it might be better if it doesn't mean anything, I would PREFER it not to mean anything else, itâs nothing personal, i just haven't touched another person in so long and you look like you would be so comfortable to lay on top of - im sorry that was weird, was that weird? - i dont mean that i like you like that or anything i dont wanna send - i dont know - mixed signals, im really bad at those but i just really really REALLY want to cuddle with you - just a PLATONIC cuddle-â
âPlatonic cuddle?â
ââŠI mean⊠yes?â
âCâmere Grace.â
And now we were here.
Simon on his back on my quilt, with me sprawled on top of him. One of my hands in his soft hair, my face in his neck, and his one arm curled around me, holding me close.
â..Grace?â Oh, I hadn't answered his question yet. What did he want to do again?
âDemonstrate?â I murmered, half-awake.
His arm, that was wrapped around my shoulder, retreated a bit before coming to rest on my ribs, slowly trailing up and down.
Oh God, that is nice.
When his nails started scratching faintly at my ribcage, he was rewarded with a full body shiver.
His fingers hesitated. No, no please, now that i had a taste of what his touch could feel like, I needed more.
I buried my burning face into his chest and muttered, âDont stop, please.â
Every trail of his fingers down my ribs made me melt into his chest even more. Like my body sent a message from his fingertips directly into my overactive nervous system, telling me to relax.
This was nice. This was really nice.
But Simon was not done yet;
âOne more question. And please, please just say no if iâm overstepping here.â
So careful, so unsure, so I just made a little noise that hopefully sounded like a question mark.
I think it worked because he continued;
âThe existence of platonic cuddling implies that platonic kissing might be a thing?â
I pulled my face away from his chest and blearily blinkend up at him. Warm brown eyes looked back at me. Soft. Safe
âMay I kiss you?â he asked.
Usually, I would say no.
Kissing was something Iâve only ever done in context of a relationship. During that time of my life before I realised relationships were things that didn't really agree with me, and I was trying desperately to perform the actions that ânormalâ people do in ânormalâ relationships.
It was always supposed to mean something.
A kiss was always seen as a promise for more, a milestone in a blossoming relationship, the first step taken on a ladder that my partner expected me to climb with them.
None of those kisses were memories that I would label as âgoodâ. Neutral at best, uncomfortable most often, with the occasional memory sprinkled in that was just plain bad.
But there was something about this safe little bubble that we created, where nothing in the universe existed but us, these gentle touches, and the knowledge that none of this is a performative build up to anything else.
Just two human beings reconnecting after years of solitude.
Something about that bubble made me say: âDo you want to try?â
âBut,â I put one hand on his chest, âplease dont be offended if I pull away too soon? I really dont know how i might react.â
âIts nothing personal, I know. You told me. I promise its fine, well just go back to cuddling. Unless you need your space after that of course.â
I nodded.
That nod meant a lot of things.
It was permission.
It was consent.
It was a request. Please kiss me.
He manouvered his body down so our eyes were level again. His hand slowly made its way back up my ribcage, up my shoulder, up my neck before landing to rest his warm palm on my cheek.
My eyes had fluttered closed during this slow warm trek up my body and startled back open when i felt his forehead connect with mine.
For a second, we shared a breath or two until he slowly learned in.
Contact
His lips met mine
Soft pressure against my mouth. Warm hand holding me close. His eyelashes against my cheek.
Safe.
I had never felt safe kissing someone before.
Safe to feel whatever i might be feeling. Or lack in feeling. Safe from expectations. Safe from pressure. Safe from having to reciprocate anything.
I'd never felt safe kissing someone before.
I think i started crying.
He didn't notice right away, which was nice. Just his lips on mine, his hands on my cheek and us suspended in our little bubble of warmth and comfort and connection.
Inevitably, his hand brushed the wetness on my face and pulled back
âWhats wrong rylandâ
âNothing - its not - im fineâ
âRy, you're cryingâ
âIts fine, im fine - Please justâ
He pulled my head down to rest on his chest. âWell, i'm not. Not fine with kissing a crying man without knowing why hes crying. So i'm just gonna hold you okay? We'll just stay like this 'till you calm down. I'm not going anywhere. Unless you tell me to go.â
God, he was so good at this. Why was he so good at this?
ACE CHARACTER?!?!?!
EDIT: I said this in a reblog but the book is Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle! Look at the reblog for a synopsis of it, some more pride characters, and a picture of the author!!
Also, it was confirmed sheâs ace and aro!
I watched Soul Mate (2026) today and I have a couple thoughts. They are going to come out garbled though.
1. I donât care about the BL vs QPR. But thatâs just me. If you are only looking for one thing in your m/m stories, there are options out there (but obviously not enough), regardless of what that one thing may be. If you are disappointed when a show doesnât have that one thing, your feelings are valid. Go find something else to watch/read or create it yourself (and send me the link). Personally, I just want to see every single queer story told. All of them. Regardless of my feelings about the plot/romance/intimacy/ending. Tell all the stories. I want them to match or outnumber the cishet stories that exist.
2. Ryu presenting as possibly aro/ace was probably my favorite part of the whole thing. I kept dreading them having intimacy and they never did and I was so relieved. It is so rare and precious to me to see a character who could identify as aro/ace even if it isnât explicitly stated.
âŒïž Spoiler below âŒïž
3. We need the Heated Rivalries to balance Soul Mates. Now stick with me for a second. I think both pairs ending up driving and the juxtaposition of their fates while driving really seals it. One pair drives away knowing that things are going to end tragically, but they will do it together. The other pair sees a future, hope and a happy ending possibly, and they are going to do it together. We need queer stories with a happy ending. If we are constantly shown queer tragedy (or queer not happy open ending), it becomes ingrained that we donât deserve a happy ending and that the only thing people want to see is the drama/tragedy of being queer. Even if Heated Rivalry isnât over and they are going to face issues, itâs still a happy ending in a sense. Yes itâs opened ended bc there will be more. I donât think Soul Mate needs more. I donât want to watch Jonah die. I donât need to see Ryu go through that. But I know itâs there at the end and I appreciate how they ended it where they did, facing the tragedy together bc they love each other. But let me have my Hollanov (and Scott/Kip) living happily ever after as a balance to Ryu/Jonahâs fate. I need queer joy like I need oxygen. I am an absolute sucker for angst with a Happy ending!!
literally just a normal regular dude. being extra dramatic and creepy for no good reason i might add.

Marvel character Gwendolyn âGwenâ Poole aka Gwenpool has been confirmed aromantic and asexual!
Gwenpool will come to terms with her sexuality in next weekâs issue of Love Unlimited: Gwenpool, her current series which is made by an acespec creative team.
We spoke to the creative team behind Gwenpoolâs âLove Unlimitedâ arc about the characterâs asexuality and embracing who she is at her core.
Acespec creators Jeremy Whitley @jeremywhitley, Bailie Rosenlund @bailiesartblog, Kelly Fitzpatrick, Alanna Smith @alannawrites and Kaitlyn Lindtvedt discuss Gwenpoolâs asexuality and aromanticism in this new interview for Marvel.
Itâs a really great interview, highly recommend reading it!
âAcespec people arenât often shown in media and when they are, itâs often shown as a trope of being a broken thing that needs fixing. The more diversity and stories we can tell, the better.â -Kelly Fitzpatrick
Love Unlimited: Gwenpool is available now from Marvel Unlimited. The concluding issue of this 6 part limited series will be out next week.
Check out this reading list for Gwenpool if youâd like to read more of her comics!
I think with Morgan, itâs partly about having philosophical issues with a mutant separatist state, but also about feeling as though the âmut
Gwenpool is the second Marvel character to be confirmed asexual this year, although she will be the first to have her asexuality shown on-page.
Morgan Red was confirmed asexual back in March and his asexuality will be addressed in New Mutants Lethal Legion #5, out in July.
