Pride 2022 12/30: Rosetta Tharpe

Known as the godmother of rock and roll, Rosetta Tharpe had her first hit song in 1938 and continued to perform almost up until her death in 1973.  Her fame brought the music of her black, working-class gospel church to the world. Her sound - especially her distinctive guitar-playing - was a pioneering influence on men like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Chuck Berry.

Rosetta never spoke publicly about her sexuality, but friends remember that she was attracted to both women and men, and that she and her musical partner Marie Knight (pictured far left) were lovers.

Sorry jotakak fans, I GUESS i get it. But this is how their friendship is in my head. Jotaro was Kakyoin best friend, but Kakyoin was NOT Jotaros best friend (Polnareff is his best friend 100%) 

LIKE they weren’t NOT friends, their defiantly teen buddies but I just think out of their group they were nOT of equal friendship levels lol.

up until that point, during the day lily continued to dress in masculine clothing and even attended galleries showing gottlieb’s paintings of her. which was kind of iconic. she got to stand in a room full of people who were marveling her beauty, not knowing she was right next to them. it must have been such a cute little secret for them as a couple.

not to mention that for most people there is no real “after” to a transition. especially for these trans historical figures who had to balance identity and safety at all times.

i think having a wife paint these portraits must have felt really amazing for lily. to be able to see herself through the eyes of someone who loved her. i’m very much seconding op on the getting teary eyed.
