Hihi! I have no idea if anyone who follows this blog reads any of my fics on AO3, but if you do, then you might like to know what the heck is going on with my fics, and why I haven't posted any updates in over six months.
First of all, I am alive! I wrote a lot of fics in the summer of 2022 when I had just gotten active in a fan server on Discord where there was a lot of encouragement to write fanfiction. In the spring of 2023, I started a medical assistantship course, and in order to keep myself focused in class, I turned off notifications for the server. And then I just kind of...didn't turn them back on???? In my defense, I was intimidated by the amount of time it would take for me to backread everything I missed, and that eventually snowballed into me just no longer looking at that server. I should honestly become active in it again, because it did a lot for my writing productivity. I also have a lot of hobbies both in real life and on my computer, and those take up a lot of my time as well. So that's why I didn't post much last year and haven't posted anything yet this year.
But I want to let you all know, that I do fully intend to complete the fanfics I have already started on AO3, and I do intend to write the sequels I promised a year and a half ago.
So without further ado, here is a status report on the incomplete fics and series I have on my AO3:
How to Live With Fire: One of my most popular fics! I have two sequels planned, and a rough idea of what I want to happen in each of them. Both of them are probably going to be only a few chapters long. The delay on this one is mostly on Part 2, since Part 2 has only the vaguest ideas of what I want to do with it (how Mortarion and Vulkan become a longterm couple, and how their legions react to this change). The trouble with this one is, I haven't read any Salamanders novels, let alone ones that take place during the Horus Heresy. I think I will at least have to read Deathfire for this one. I am praying that I don't have to read Vulkan Lives, since I understand that one has less tasty Salamanders content than I would like, and way more John Grammaticus than I find tasteful. But I will still try Deathfire at the very least, if I can find a physical copy at the library or a used bookstore or something.
A Matter of Trust: Another one that's going to end up being a trilogy. I have figured out what happens, now I just need to read the Plague Wars trilogy, because those events are going to be kind of important to the rest of the plot. Again, I'd like to read physical copies of the books so that I can flip through them easily. I'm going to see if I can find copies of the first two novels through the local libraries. Fingers crossed!
Until the Bitter End: Ohhhh, this one's gonna make me cry...this one is mostly hinging on me rereading The Buried Dagger and taking notes. Much lower barrier for entry for this one, since I've read it so often that I mostly remember where to find the events I'm looking for.
Lantern and the Child: This one is going to have like, a billion chapters. It's going to become episodic for a while, but I'm looking forward to it. In this case, it's a case of figuring out which characters I want to introduce. The idea of it being episodic is kind of exciting for me, because it feels like it will be a fun thing to do, and because it goes along with a writing conceit that my co-creator and I have for this AU, that it's the events of a theoretical (very dark) Pokemon anime.
This Once Nearly Was Mine: This one should literally be the easiest one to complete, I am ashamed that I haven't finished it. There's only one chapter left, and I don't even have to come up with all of the events. Again, this one is going to dip into Horus Heresy events that I haven't actually read, but I think I've heard enough from osmosis that I can skip most of it. I just need to, y'know, actually sit down and fucking write it.
Deep's Embrace: I've got an outline! And I've even got some scenes written out! As I type this post, I am preparing to submit chapter 2. I'm having a lot of fun with this fic, as you could probably all tell.
Anyway, that's basically it for now. If you have any questions, please let me know! And if you have any friends who you know enjoy my fics but aren't following me or aren't on Tumblr, please link them to this post so that they know just what the hell is going on with me.

Just Curze narrating his early experiences being adopted instead of living as a feral child.
Valaria Raskovnic, a blank, is the head of the Raskovnic caravan. Most know her as a prickly old woman who keeps everyone on line through sheer force of her "terrible aura", but when the scrawny street kid her granddaughter dragged home wakes up crying out from terrible nightmares (his visions) she quickly scoops him up in her arms and sings an old lullaby to calm his nerves.
She has never known why people are immediately so repelled by her, but over time she has learned to use this to her advantage. Like everyone else, the child was reluctant to be near her- he was reluctant to be near anyone, really. However, from this moment on, she will become his safe haven, a refuge when his mind is tormented.
'Please spare us your moral relativism, uncle.'
Several of the Thousand Sons, resplendent in their crimson plate, stiffened at the warrior's words. Magnus narrowed his left eye as he gazed upon his brother, refusing to look at the Night Lord that had spoken.
'If your sons cannot keep from childish outbursts, brother, perhaps it's best if they leave us.'
The ragged primarch retracted his claws once more. The sigh that ghosted through his sharp teeth was weighted by weariness. He said nothing. His posture of tired defiance spoke for him.
...
'We should β ' Sevatar began.
'Silence', both primarchs said at once. And wonder of wonders, it worked.
The Abyssal Edge (part of Sons of The Emperor Anthology), by Aaron Dembski-Bowden
made a short, messy comic that i've been struggling to finish since last weekend and refuse to work on it anymore, but "and wonder of wonders" kept me going because it was really amusing to me
and color me surprised that after reading Savage Weapons a few days ago, i found out that this man had the balls to use 'unc' not once, but twice to two different primarchs on a separate occasion
this bat will never cease to amaze me...
ahhhh i really wanted to include ahriman but i spent way to much time on this thing than necessary :_:
@moj-cien's amazing animation from the same novella really motivated me to finish this thing today instead of abandoning it altogether, sooo biggest shout-out to them <3
The long-lost remains of King Alfred the Great have been found buried under a car park, investigators claim.
Alfred died in 899, and his bones were repeatedly moved. He was buried in Winchester CathedralΒ until 1110, when his remains were moved to Winchester's Hyde Abbey, where they were interred before the high altar between the bodies of his wife and son.
The abbey was demolished after the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539, and the place was left in ruins.
In 1866, during construction of a workhouse on the site, the English antiquarian John Mellor excavated the area, found what he thought were Alfred's bones and had them reburied at nearby St. Bartholemewβs Church.
But in 2013, when archaeologists exhumed and carbon-dated the bones from St. Bartholomewβs churchyard, they proved to date from over 200 years after Alfredβs death - sparking Graham's interest and search.
He said: "Whoeverβs bones they were, they werenβt Alfredβs. So, I decided to discover what happened to them.
"The quest has taken me 13 years.β
For those of you who aren't familiar, I live in an exceptionally flammable part of the United States, and despite the fact that every goddamn year multiple parts of my state catch fire, destroy homes and kill people, the local assholes insist on getting drunk and setting fire to a bunch of illegal explosives anyway.
In 2023, God granted me a Miracle that prevented my house from burning down.
Last year, I had to resort to Psychological and Chemical Warfare to keep the patriotic arsonists at bay.
This year is apparently An Important Birthday for the clusterfuck we have the nerve to call a nation, so despite the fact there is so much smoke in the air that the sun has literally been blood red for the last week, the pyrotechnic fetishists are out in force.
Last year, I hit upon the concept that if my neighbors were going to act like problem animals, it would make sense to use the management techniques on them that you might use on say, a Bear that was doing serious property damage. Thusly, I created The Stench, a nontoxic but FOUL smelling concoction that I could discretely spray around the flammable gatherings and render the area extremely uncomfortable to occupy for the rest of the night, forcing them to give up or move on.
If this seems harsh:
There is no story from 2024 because a grass fire was started by fireworks less than 12 miles from me and the high winds put me in the evacuation zone in under an hour.
Over fifty people lost their homes.
Errant fireworks burning my house down is a very real possibility, and I pay the price in anxiety and insurance premiums.
The Stench is noxious but harmless, and also very effective at building a buffer zone around my home. But sneaking up to parties on foot in this heat is both exhausting and nerve-wracking. There have to be more effective ways to do this
-And there is!
It involves Weeds and Business Cards :)
All of this spring, I've been battling Bindweed and my City Code Enforcement Officers.
The city code people have been professional, but the truth is that one of my neighbors is calling them on use because one of my housemates is transgender. It's extremely grating to get these notices, having to explain repeatedly that I *AM* working on the weed situation, I just have a heart condition and No Money. It's also deeply paranoia-inducing to know that the city is regularly coming by and photographing my house.
The Solution to the Bindweed is 1 gallon of high-concentration vinegar, half a cup of Borax, a quarter cup of salt, and a couple tablespoons of dish soap. Get one of those weed sprayers from a hardware store and mix it up in there. Spray it on your thistles, bindweed, kudzu, garlic mustard or whatever your local herbaceous invasive is on a day with bright sunlight, and in a few hours the entire part of the plant above the soil is Deceased. It's non-toxic to insects, pets and wildlife (just wait a few months before trying to plant anything in the area for the traces to wash out).
The only real downside to this stuff is that it smells HEINOUS.
Sure, The Stench is nauseating, but WeedFucker 5000 is genuinely painful to inhale. Again, it wont hurt people- even my asthmatic housemates can use the stuff- but boy howdy it sure smells toxic. I've got the ingredients for about 40 gallons of WeedFucker 5000 prepared and ready to go.
I've also got a disposable hazmat suit, rubber boots and gloves, respirator, goggles and a shitty little golf cart from the free section of craigslist to haul my shit around in.
I also have Business Cards!
See, the very nice officers from the City Code department left some Very Nice business cards so that I may contact them about "the fucking bindweed is gone, get off my back".
So I scanned the business card into my computer, fired up Clip Studio, and made my own business cards. I've turned my City's Abstract Triangle Logo into an Eye of Providence and the slogan of "E Pluribus Unum" to "E Plurbis Anus", Changed my city's name to a dumb pun, and stated the card originates from "The Department Of Public Nuisances".
Crucially, where the name and contact information of the real city employee has been replaced with the name and business email of the neighbor who has been bragging on facebook about calling the city code department on my home because he hates my housemate :)
It looks, at a glance, very much like the business cards of city employees. If you look at it for like 5 seconds though, there's no way it could be mistaken for the real thing.
I've printed out 500 of these bad boys and will have them on hand as I, a put-upon employee, am forced to work overtime on a national holiday doing weed mitigation, because my boss can't manage deadlines for shit.
You're mad about it? I've been out here since 5 AM! But if we don't finish by the deadline we lose the contract and I could get fired. You know what the economy is.
Here, this is my Boss's Business card- how about you send him an email about how this has ruined your barbecue?
It's golden hour now, so I'm Suiting Up and preparing to embark on some civil service in the form of Noxious Weed Eradication, and by coincidence, Fire Mitigation.
I'll report back later Tonightπ«‘

If you're not signed in to Bluesky or don't have an account at all you're not able to see the thread linked above; to help folks who are interested in the drama I've screenshotted what I could from the original OP's thread (under the cut - it's so long!!) and linked a Guardian piece below from several years ago that gives some background into the splinter sect that just got the Papal boot.
(Apologies for the lack of alt text - it's suuuch a long thread, and I'm just not in a position atm to do it justice... if you've got Bsky access, the start of the screenshotted thread is here π)

Rest in peace, John Blanche. You had a truly monolithic, formative impact on both Warhammer as an IP, and the lives of countless fans and artists around the world.
I swear, this is one of the most frustrating fandoms I have ever been part of. "I would like to listen to a video about Warhammer in the background while I play sudoku, I'll pull up this lore video that sounds interesting" and then I listen to it, and the loretuber seems like he has his head screwed on straight, and then I watch another video, and I'm getting into it...then I watch a third one, and this time, it's a video where the loretuber is going to talk about Mortarion.
And every.
Single.
Last.
Fucking.
Time.
He fucks it up. "yada yada killsteal yada yada" and not ONCE do they bring up the child abuse. Holy fucking shit. How is it that HALF of this fandom (the half that write fanfic) can pick up on the child abuse, but as soon as it gets to a guy with a microphone and basic editing software, suddenly Mortarion's childhood was some kind of innocent thing where he had a "are we the baddies" moment where he discovered that Necare was actually--gasp! Evil! And that maybe Mortarion had more in common with...humans?!?1?!
Like holy fucking shit
How can so many of these people get this wrong
How many times do we need a description of a man torturing a child before people on YouTube will ask their audience "what effect do you think that torture and abuse might have had on a child?"
(Weirdly, the only people who have come anywhere close to nailing it have been Adeptus Ridiculous, shoutout to Bricky, Possum, and the crew for actually getting it right.)
YESSSS EXACTLY! There's anger at the lack of catharsis. There's a difference in knowing the danger this person posed to you is over logically, and knowing it because you did it yourself.
In The Pale King, Mortarion makes an EXPLICIT note mentally that he did not free Barbarus. His people are not free- because they could not free themselves.
Its why he gives the people of Galaspar the final kill. Its why they tally the dead. Its catharsis. Its knowing that they are done. It is as over as it can be. And at the very end, they got to chose it- to end it themselves.
Mortarion will be forever denied that relief- that knowing that it is- really and truly- done. He did not get to free his people- or avenge himself.
And it was the Emperor that denied him that release.
