if johnlock ever does happen i hope people are ready with scholarly articles on heteronormativity and the persistent invisibility of queer experience through the western cultural gaze

why is it so laughable to assume that sherlock leaving john’s wedding early, sherlock restarting his heart out of fear for john’s safety, john being sherlock’s pressure point, could possibly mean that sherlock is in love? queering this text isn’t an effort or a strain, there is no additional analysis required. it’s done. it’s in front of me. it’s the ending of casablanca. i don’t understand how anybody is missing it

would these critics be confused if john and sherlock were to one day kiss on screen? are they so blind right now that they would assume it to be joke if it were to really happen? would they call it an absurd twist clearly meant to pander a very specific group of fans? would they make up excuses as to why they didn’t even consider a queer relationship a possibility between two men who clearly mean more to each other than anyone else?

i’m gonna sound so dramatic right now, but the fact that no mainstream media outlets were able to pickup on the queer subtext and even actual text in the sign of three makes me feel like canonical johnlock isn’t just something that would be meaningful to a few people, but it’s something that would be hugely important in changing the way media is read by the mainstream at large and eventually in changing the way people perceive the world around them. if queer subtext is still unseen to the majority when it’s so blatant for people who live it, if we are still this invisible, then subtext isn’t doing shit for us. this is a hugely popular show with a global audience, they have the chance to make a genuine difference here and they better fucking take it

tjlc not being real isn’t even a possibility for me anymore i’m fuming it is the only answer this show is going to be a revolution and it’s going to change the entire media landscape that’s the only thing i can tell myself right now
