The ticking of the grandfather clock thumps in Rapunzel ears, aligning with the quick beats of her heart. She sits with her arms hugging her legs to her chest. Rapunzel bites at the skin on her bottom lip, unblinking she watches the seconds tick away. Eugene lays soundly beside her, curled in blankets and snoring softly. Normally, the calm sounds of her husband would offer her some comfort, lull her back to sleep but not this time. Nothing could pull Rapunzel’s senses away from that clock.
