Ok one more quick drarry sketch
Fun fact! Water actually turns âblood redâ when it is contaminated by sulfur creating sulfuric acid. And scientists have discovered that around the time of the plagues a volcano went off that disturbed Egyptâs environment. So the plagues are scientifically proven. The other parts of the plagues are explained by the sulfuric acid river making the animals leave the river and escaping into the human population.
WHY DIDNT ANYONE TELL ME THE PLAGUES WERE PROVEN
if anyone wants a full list heres how they happened:
basically they all stem from a massive eruption of a volcano on the island of santorini off the coast of greece. the ash then floated over to egypt which kickstarted the plagues
1) blood: the ash carried the mineral cinnabar, which has the capability of turning water red
2) frogs: the ash also had many toxic and acidic substances so naturally, all the frogs are gonna flee the river
3) lice: given what was going on insects would have burrowed into dead animals/peoples skin and laid eggs, which then hatched
4) beasts: everything is getting poisoned from the ash and toxins, causing animals to freak the fuck out/die
5) pestilence: toxins again
6) boils: the ash would have caused storms that carried acid rain which when it fell, would irritate peoples skin causing boils
7) hail: the storm again
8) locusts: again with the insects and the amount of dead bodies and such which attract more insects. a lotta insects basically.
9) darkness: the ash covered the sky, blocking out the sun
10) slaying of the first born: given that childrenâs bodies were found in higher numbers than others, some archeologists think they may have been sacrificed to stop all the destruction, but they arenât 100% sure about that. this is just me but I would say another possibility is that babies/kids are a lot more susceptible to toxins and shit, so while an adult may have been fine or gotten a bit sick, it might have been very dangerous/deadly for kids or babies
the volcano would also attest for the parting of the sea weirdly enough. the red sea was in fact the âreedâ sea, and was very shallow, probably waist deep or so. given the amount of shit dumped into the ocean from the volcano, this wouldve caused a tsunami to head towards egypt. the water would get sucked out from the reed sea right before the tsunami hit, letting people pass it easily, then the actual tsunami would hit, fuckin up anyone who tried to follow.
another theory is that the red water was caused by algae, which would cause the frogs and stuff to jump out as well. the algae also carried substances toxic to animals so if they ingested any theyâd get sick and die, so more insects. in this theory there was a sand storm coincidentally that caused the rest
some sources: X X
The volcano wasnât ON Santorini - it WAS Santorini, then called Thera. It completely blew away the Minoan settlements on the island and was one of the largest eruptions in human history.Â
The tsunamis from the Theran eruption devastated Crete, weakening the then-powerful Minoan civilization, leaving them open to being invaded by the Mycenaeans.
The volcanic winter it created devastated crops in China leading to the fall of the Xia Dynasty.Â
The abrupt and catastrophic loss of the people of Thera may have also inspired the myths about Atlantis.

what I really like about Pratchett's work among all the other things, is that he basically opens all his books with exposure and "here is an immuable, very eternal law upon which the world is built" and then he spends the rest of the book trampling on that law
"it is impossible for a woman to be a wizard, so we're going to follow this wizard girl's journey"
"dragons are gone forever and dormant, here be no dragons. say hi to this one lady dragon tho"
"nobody can resist elves. that's why Magrat is going to deck their queen in the face"
"everyone knows women can't fight"
"everyone knows golems don't have souls. they all have names and personalities and-"
"all dwarves are men. then they were introduced to gender"
"Death is eternal and unchanging. Let's see what happens when he goes through all major human development stages in reverse starting with his retirement"
All in all "here's this thing everyone knows is true, here's why it's bullshit, here's how untrue it is, and here's how nobody is going to learn a lesson from being shown that this law of nature is bullshit. We all know people never learn right. or do they"
And he mostly wrote those openings last of all. He'd write the book to find out what it was about and then wrote the openings when he was done with the first draft.
I love contemplating how actually scary this is. Nothing in horror movies affects me anymore but I get the most wonderful chills from the idea of these beautiful, haunting, mindless things just hovering in this murky water like a minefield for anyone foolish enough to go swimming or unlucky enough to fall in. How itâs still not as bad as being a fish small enough for them to paralyze and consume. How they regularly paralyze and consume fish but evolved before anything like a fish ever existed. A fish is such a complex creature that can see and think and navigate and be afraid but sometimes it touches these brainless, boneless, ghostly things that were just already there, millions of years sooner, and it dies and it never understands why that is. The thing that killed it and ate it doesnât know either, it doesnât know anything. It doesnât have enough of a brain to even realize it has killed and eaten something. Some of its cells simply fired little harpoons into the cells of the other thing, and squirted deadly chemicals into them, and hauled up the paralyzed body to digest it. Itâs a spiderâs web without a spider but it still fills things with venom and eats them. :)
The best jellyfish are those that seem to trail off into forever. Like Chrysaora achlyos my belovedâŚ
Images like that haunted me as a kid

itâs always so fucking funny to me when terfs are like âhow can you say trans women and women are the same thing! being born as a man makes you different!â because like. yes. trans women and cis women are different. so are black women and white women. and straight women and queer woman. and women from different countries and different socioeconomic statuses. thereâs diversity in the experience of womanhood? what a wild concept
incidentally, this why terfs tend to be white women. from the combahee river collective statement, 1977:
âŚwe reject the stance of Lesbian separatism because it is not a viable political analysis or strategy for us. It leaves out far too much and far too many people, particularly Black men, women, and children. We have a great deal of criticism and loathing for what men have been socialized to be in this society: what they support, how they act, and how they oppress. But we do not have the misguided notion that it is their maleness, per seâi.e., their biological malenessâthat makes them what they are. As BIack women we find any type of biological determinism a particularly dangerous and reactionary basis upon which to build a politic.Â
(emphasis mine)
âTo argue that transsexual women should not enter [women-exclusive spaces] because their experiences are different would have to assume that all other womenâs experiences are the same, and this is a racist assumption. The argument that transsexual women have experienced some degree of male privilege should not bar them from our communities once we realize that not all women are equally privileged or oppressed.â
(from âWhose feminism is it, anyway?â by Emi Koyama)
This. This is the core of it. This is why trans-exclusionary radical feminism is rooted in racism, colonialism, and imperialism. It excludes the idea that there can be any other type of âwomanâ except one very (white, colonialist, imperialist) definition.

We know Sirius looks pretty terrifying in his animagus form. A huge, black dog the size of a bear, and looks like the grim. I need more descriptions of Sirius that highlight how intimidating he looks as human. Cold grey eyes, tall, and heâs got his polite aloofness down pat for people he isnât particularly interested in to talking to. We know Bellatrix looks terrifying, Sirius should be able to make people shit themselves with just one look too tbh.
this canât get left in the tags @loveloveolivia:

Hi hi, is anyone still alive after reading Ballad? đ Time to finally drop the artworks for the reverse dust jacket and foil design for Fairylootâs edition of The Ballad of Never After by @Stephanie_Garber! The Hollow scenes were my favorite and Anissa (@Fairyloot) and I were totally on the same page as far as the scene we wanted to depict! Iâm avoiding spoilers here, but this scene is an amalgamation of both times that Jacks carries Evangeline across the bridge, and really a depiction of the ambience and feelings, rather than the details of what is happening during the scene (again, avoiding spoilers! but see my notes below the spoiler warning!) I had a really fun time with the design of the tree loft. Itâs not apparent at first, but I opted to use real fairy lights in the windows! (Seen better in the video!) The branches all have this âcome hitherâ curls to them, so welcoming and comforting. đ~ The foil design is another secret book design, this time highlighting The Inglorious History of House Slaughterwood - a prominent family in the second book! Spoilers for TBONA below *********** We all absolutely were fawning over the way Jacks is carrying Eva, and that was simply a mathematical result. Imagine if you had a flayed back like Evangeline, would you really feel comfortable being in the cliche romantic princess carry? I had to think about what would be the most comfortable for Eva, and it turned out so adorable in the end! *********** END SPOILERS Anywho, Iâm glad I got that off my chest. (now to await the incoming 3rd book and start my torture all over again. đ) Â
the âbad guysâ in hallmark movies end up always being the most respectful men ever.
because they will find out their girlfriend of 3 years (that they were about to propose to) went off to a random farm in minnesota, hours away from were the two of them built a life together, and she decided to just⌠stay there without even consulting him.
and then he decides to take a trip to make sure sheâs okay, because this is generally alarming behavior, and then sees that she literally fell in love with her ex within one (1) week- and he wasnât there, but you can TELL that theyâve made out a couple times.
and then she just strings him along for a few days, until fucking christmas eve, when she just breaks up with him and is like âi know we used to have the same values, but iâve never loved you. mark makes me happier than you ever did. and you ONLY care about work, whereas i like christmas and fun, like a Good Person.â
and then, after finding out his entire relationship was a lie and he had his life turned upside down in a week and he got dumped on christmas, this guyâs just like âok yeah that makes sense. i only wish you the best of happiness with mark. i hope you guys build a great life together in christmastreefarmville. thank you for everything.â
An AU where two Hallmark Christmas Bad Guys are both getting flights back to New York after being dumped by their respective Smalltown Blonde Girlfriends, and they bond over their shared experiences and fall in love in the departures lounge
@teashoesandhair your wish is my command :)
Probably, Levi should be more upset.
Probably he is still in shock. Right? He looks out of his taxi window (it's not technically a taxi, just some guy named Corey who offered him a ride to the airport, because Uber doesn't operate in fucking Tinyville, Bumfuck Middle-Of-Nowhere, Utah) and tracks water droplets racing each other down the glass, because of course it's raining, and his bad knee is killing him.Â
Levi sniffs and rubs at his eyes and then pulls out his phone and books a ticket back to New York, wincing as four hundred and twenty-six dollars are deducted from his bank account.Â
And, like, he should definitely be more upset.
He just got broken up with. He was engaged, for God's sake. A four-year relationship⌠over. Just like that.Â
Corey says, "Ten minutes to the station."Â
When you learned your mother was a goddess, things finally seemed to fall into place. The other demigods laughed at you, the only child born to the goddess of the hearth, Hestia. But your power was so much more than they could dream of.
Being born to a goddess was something I never imagined to have happened to me, and really, least of all to a goddess of virginity, so really, Hestia as a mother? I didnât believe that.
But dad told me he had been at the oven with papa and they had stoked the fire, they poured wine and sacrifices bread and oil and meats to the flame, and begged the goddess to let them have family together to gather in this home, a family to gather around a hearth and to love.
And listen to their prayers she did, sculpting me from embers and ash and blowing life into me with a spark from her flames, kissing my forehead once before she left, leaving me forever with her mark on my face.
Thatâs what dad told me, and now it all makes much more sense.
I never ran out of s'more stuff, ya know? Even if I had definitely just used up my last chocolate for a cake, thereâd be a new perfectly preserved package of it in my cupboard. Marshmallows empty cause of my hot chocolate? No silly, there is still some left in the box somehow.
I also play the guitar, at the campfires I always played and lead the chorus, but never do my fingers turn to blisters, and I never need to rest my voice.
It also explains why I have always been at home anywhere and with anyone, I could sit down, and I was home where I was and the people with me would be my family.
Other demigods mocked me, I am the child of the goddess of the home, of the hearth, a cooking deity theyâd call her.
It wasâŚrude, but it was fine, I could deal with it. I didnât have a cabin full of siblings, but whoever stopped by was family, right?
And it was totally fine to leave me behind when they went into battle, I am no good with weaponry, but I could still follow them, grab some food for them, theyâd be hungry after all the fighting.
And they seemed almost concerned when I ran onto the battlefield barefooted and in my hoodie and sweatpants and apron, rushing towards a dragon and a son of Thanatos.
Their screams were scared when the useless child of a goddess ran onto the battlefield, and this boy actually tried to hold me back, even if his arms were shattered and his skin was scorched.
They were shocked when the battle ended with me.
They wouldâve known I canât get burned from all the times Iâd stumbled into the campfire or spilled tea.
They shouldâve known I can make anyone and anything calm down quickly enough.
They shouldâve known I can protect anyone behind me by raising my hand.
A hearth does not burn, it warms and nutures. A family calms and cares, not aggravates. A home does not abandon, it protects.
I am the son of Hestia, and my mother gave me the ability to be a hearth anywhere I went. It is safe with me, for anyone.
I ended wars before, this one was no different.
BeautifulÂ
whenever zuko visits katara in the south pole, kanna always puts him on babysitting duty because his warmth comforts the babies so much they instantly fall asleep. because of this, kanna always jokes that he would make a good househusband, making katara blush.
Katara seeing Zuko holding a bunch of snoozing babies: I hope this doesnât awaken anything in me.
