Okay, this is so funny to me that I wanted to make a post.
Every time I visit my parents I (re)watch anime with my mother. I've been doing this for a very, very long time. Here is, to my knowledge at the moment, the anime my mother remembers. (Please note we've watched countless together.)
DR STONE (Because it's science based; also, I'll go out on a limb and say it might be her favourite one.)

🐱 - Which piece of writing advice do you always ignore?
"Said is dead"; there *are* times when it is appropriate to use it, and it does not always detract from the story. I actually find it more distracting to see someone use super rare and/or outdated verbs for dialogue in an effort to avoid said, than I would ever find the word "said" annoying. This is advice that is meant for teaching, when trying to get someone to expand their vocabulary and how to set tones and moods without stating "they felt x"; but once you know how to do that, "said" is an acceptable verb to use and pepper into your works, if only to give people a break from the same five dialogue tags over and over...(something I have also been guilty of and am working on).
🦄 - Soft magic or hard magic systems?
I like both, and technically I find them more to be two ends of one spectrum, but if I had to choose one, I would say the hard magic system. Having more rules and, therefore, more limitations and consequences, to magic makes it more interesting because it ups the stakes, and it forces characters to get really, really creative at times. Soft magic is fun when I don't want to think too hard about the whys and hows of it all, but it can feel a bit wishy-washy to me, and I've seen it used enough as a convenient solution to what should have been a high stakes situation to say that if the writer isn't careful, they can become really lazy when using a soft magic system. that's my opinion.
I want you to know that it doesn't matter if I get a comment on a day old fic or a fic I wrote 10 years ago. I do see the comment, appreciate it, and love replying to it.

🐸What time of day do you write?
I mostly write in the evenings on weekdays, but on weekends/holidays, I'll write from morning till night if I can! Just depends on the fic!
🪱What is your dumbest piece of writing advice that actually works?
Not sure if it's dumb, but sometimes when I'm stuck on starting a piece or my brain is all jumbled with ideas, I put on a timer and force myself to write whatever comes to mind. The timer can't be more than an hour so I don't give myself too much wiggle room to slack off. And the ideas don't have to be coherent with one another. Just a way to get something down rather than stare at a blank document.
Also, sometimes I find writing the beginning by hand works wonders for me. I think there is something about the physical motion of writing that helps my brain work.

Oh gosh... last time I made a proper OC (like with backstory and actual personality, not just some minor character to bounce off on in fanfiction) was when I was like 15-19 years old? That's so, so long ago.
So, if I look back on those characters... probably not. Not that there is anything wrong with them, but I'd probably view them as immature/inexperienced in the ways of the world.
🐱Which piece of writing advice do you always ignore?
"Write from your own experience!" Look, I get where this advice is coming from. Yes, writing from a lived experience can make things more accurate to the character or story that you're crafting. At the same time if you're not willing to listen to other people's experiences and open yourself up to other interpretations, then you're limiting yourself in so many ways. So, to a certain extent, I think only focusing on what you know isn't helpful.
🐬What is your goal?
My writing goal is to always have fun and write what I want. Sometimes, I know I get distracted and think that no one cares about my stories, but in the end, all that matters is the story is for me. If I decide to share it with others, that's a gift I can choose to give.
nobody ever believes me when I list off all of the ways that humans are significantly less sexually dimorphic than people seem to believe and it drives me batshit insane. “you’re denying the biological reality of sex” well you’re sticking your fingers in your ears and saying lalalala every time anyone presents you with data that confirms that women and men aren’t really that different. and refusing to come to terms with the two-way relationship between the “biological” and “social” worlds. I think one of us is ignoring the biological sciences here and it isn’t me
Someone once told me my biology degree was fake because I said humans weren't sexual dimorphic.
A male human and a female human are roughly the same size and same coloration.
Meanwhile, male black widow spiders are brown and a tenth the size of females. Anglerfish females are a full foot long and have a bioluminescent protrusion on their heads; males are barely half an inch long with no bioluminescence or protrusions. Male elephant seals are ten times bigger than females and have massive snouts. Male orangutans have big jowls and neck sacs that look like goiters, while females look more like other apes. Peacocks have flashy coloration and a long tail that they can display. The females are brown and simple.
Humans aren't sexually dimorphic! You only know someone's gender because of cultural identifiers, like clothing or hair.
The big things for primate sexual dimorphism tend to be canine size and body size. Male primates in sexually dimorphic species tend to have HUGE canine teeth for better threat displays, and are bigger for similar reasons.
Lowland Gorilla males tend to be 2.38x on average the mass of Lowland Gorilla females. Humans? That ratio is something line 1.15.
Male gorilla canines tend to be about 2 inches long, easily twice the length of some of their other teeth. Male humans have canines the exact same length as human female canines and the exact same length as the rest of our teeth.
We are not particularly sexually dimorphic.

(WalWaPo makes you jump through like three separate hoops before you can read the article, so I will share some of the highlights:
Walnut was born in a species-recovery breeding program in the 1980′s. The program had crane chicks hand-raised by human volunteers, and at that time they did not fully understand the measures necessary make sure that the chicks do not imprint on humans and retain their identity as cranes.
As a result, her keepers believe, Walnut does not recognize other cranes as members of her own species.
It has not been proven that Walnut killed her previous suitors; however, there is a persistent rumor in the white-naped-crane-conservation community that she did.
Because this species is highly endangered, and the gene pool of the captive population is small, it’s pretty important for the survival of her species that Walnut A) mate, and B) not kill a bunch of other cranes.
The actual name of the keeper is Chris Crowe.
They both arrived at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in 2004.
Walnut immediately began paying special attention to Chris--and ignoring the eligible male crane in a nearby enclosure.
Walnut initiated their courtship, performing the opening moves of a mating dance.
Chris realized that if he reciprocated the mating dance, it might be possible to artificially inseminate Walnut with her participation and consent. (The process normally involves restraining the bird.)
It worked!
Chris and Walnut have had five children, who were raised by other crane couples at the facility--sometimes the biological dad and his mate--both because it’s unclear whether Walnut would accept the chicks as her own, and because Chris is not equipped to be a Crane Dad.
However, the Institute provides her with artificial eggs to sit on, and Chris takes his turn looking after them. (This would not work with real eggs because he can’t sit on them properly, but Walnut seems to feel that he is on the job if he just stands over them.)
Chris accepts that he is pretty much married to this bird. White-naped cranes live to be about 60, and they mate for life, so he knows he can’t retire while Walnut is alive. (At the time of the article, Walnut was 36, and Chris 42.)

she has not been PROVEN to have killed her exes, but there is a PERSISTENT RUMOR (really officers she's simply DEVASTATED, she sobs, wearing a new feather boa unfortunately resembling her most recent deceased husband)

Not only is he 'married' to walnut, this has apparently happened SEVERAL times, so he has MULTIPLE crane wives, none of which know about any of his other crane wives. This man is, for some unknown reason, irresistible to cranes

World Heritage Post
I regret being the bearer of bad news, but I thought it should be shared that Walnut passed away in January of this year (2024). There's a lot of mixed info about the lifespan of cranes (due to people misunderstanding what a median is...) but the average for most species I know of is 20-30 years (in the wild if nothing eats them/they don't die young), and 30-45 in captivity, with the oldest known white-naped crane having loved to be 46. Given that she was 42, this old gal did good, and I'm certain she will be missed by folks here.

Favourite Tropes
I got tagged by my dear friend @m34gs in this post HERE! Thanks for tagging me! I love talking about tropes! I'm going to also explain myself and my choices!
Slow burn or love at first sight: While there is nothing wrong with love at first sight as a trope, I adore a good slow burn even more. The pining, the tension, the "do they like me?", the doubt. Then, the release when they finally realize they both like one another. Truly, one of my favourite things ever.
Fake dating or secret dating: Both are good and it just depends on the ship and the circumstances. I think not only do both have some potential angst/conflict potential, they also have some great comedy potential.
Enemies to lovers or best friends to lovers: Without question it's best friends to lovers. It's one of my all time favourite tropes and will continue to be. There is just something about having someone who was your friend turn to your lover. The idea of intimacy that was platonic but now it's more is something I adore. I also love the idea that someone got to know the other before getting into a relationship. Bonus points if it's childhood friends to lovers.
Only one bed or long distance correspondence: Only one bed has the most peak comedy and tension potential that it is so hard to beat this trope for me.
Hurt/comfort or amnesia: Truthfully, amnesia technically slightly wins out and I love it more than hurt/comfort, but I've grown to enjoy a good hurt/comfort more over the past year or so. Not that I didn't like them before, but now I've definitely read a few more fics with hurt/comfort. But truthfully, amnesia has been one of my all time favourite tropes ever since I was 12 and picked up reading CLAMP's Tsubasa. Peak.
Fantasy AU or modern AU: Honestly, depends on the series and while I like both tropes just fine, but I'm picking Modern AU for this one. I think it's because many series I watch/read are already set in fantastical worlds, so I see more Modern AUs out there if you know what I mean.
Mutual pining or domestic bliss: Both are good! Mutual pining has a lot of fun potential for dynamics and conflict. Domestic bliss is always perfect and fun to read too!
Smut or fluff: Both. Both are good.
Canon compliant or fix-it: Depends on the series and the angle when writing the story. Some series I read/watch lend better to a fix it AU while some lend better to being canon compliant and expanding on an idea or arc more.
Reincarnation or character death: Reincarnation AUs are probably up there in my top five for favourite trope. I've always adored them for what feels like forever.
One-shot or multichapter: Depends on the story and the plot. I love the containment a one-shot can have but I also love when a story expands itself out and has multi-chapters too.
Kid fic or road trip fic: Neither. Regardless if it's a fic where the characters are children or they're raising children, it's not my cup of tea. Same with road trips. While I've done some in the past, I actually really do not like road trips.
Arranged marriage or accidental marriage: Again, depends on the ship/dynamic/story that is being written. So, I like both.
High school romance or middle-aged romance: My least favourite trope of all time are high school AUs. So, middle-aged romance all the way, please.
Time travel or isolated together: TIME TRAVEL. I adore this trope so much. Easily also in my top five favourite tropes. So much media I've consumed has time travel in it and I'll never get tired of it. (Though, writing time travel can be a pain in the butt for sure.)
Neighbours or roommates: Both are good. Both have fun potential and truly it boils down to the ship and dynamic that I'm looking for.
Sci-fi au or magic au: Magic AU. I find sometimes Sci-fi AUs make me feel cold? I don't know how to explain it, but I think it's because sometimes people fall into making everything sterile and metal like a lab. Not saying all Sci-fi AUs do this, of course. So, magic AUs it is!
Body swap au or genderbent: Neither. I don't really like either of these tropes enough to say much about them. That said, sometimes a body swap AU can be fun, but that's in rare circumstances for me.
Angst or crack: I find I'm picky with my crack fics, so I prefer angst over it.
Apocalypse or mundane: Mundane all the way. It's mostly because I'm simply not fond of how apocalypse settings are set up. Doubly so if it's due to zombies, which most of the time is my least favourite trope out there.
